I recall the post, but was he a pensioner and receiving a monthly state pension?  I don't have to be homeless because I currently receive $1100/month in state pension and $2,000/month in online teaching income.  I can rent a property and then drop/reduce the online teaching... (since that income will reduce my housing benefit)

It might not be that simple many land lords will not rent to people on housing benefit full stop, those that do rent will be grotty flats in grotty areas, life on benefits is nothing like the news papers portray

Thanks, but in view of my age and potentially-worsening health issues, and also because I have no support network in Thailand (divorced etc), and also in view of the likelyhood of stricter visa rules, I think (realistically) it's time to return to Ol Blighty!

As you get older a support network is important, from what you have said, i would return to the UK, free medical care, rent paid,  money for food it's a no brainer, a hot humid climate like Thailand is not good for the lungs, medical costs will mount up as you get older

First it was coffee shops, then weed shops, now coin laundry to burn your money and copy each other?

I think for four years, there has been one larger coin laundry shop around my neighbourhood.

In the last six months at least five more shops have opened or are about to open. With certainly more to come.

Aren't people doing a business plan and market research before opening a business?

And I thought banks have been stricter for business loans?

Seems to me like another way to burn money?

Or is it money laundering (pun intended 🤣)

No business plan or any research, the Thai way if you see a new business copy it, all they will end up doing is seeing their income drop with each new shop, in turn equipment gets old no money for repairs etc

I noticed  near where i am 3 opened, this is a franchise or someone opened 3 in a small area, they have equipped all 3 with cameras, open 24 hours no staff on site any issue and you use line to contact and someone turns up to sort out, this does seem to have been thought out

I just got my new passport. My 90-day report is due so am planning a visit to CW to get my visa stamps transferred to the new passport and do the in person 90 day report. Will photocopies of my updated bank book be sufficient, or are they also asking for a statement from the bank like I submit during my annual extension application?

Will I also need to update my TM30?

    many thanks in advance.

Last year i transferred my stamp to a new passport it took 5 hours they wanted bank statement, bank book they did want an updated TM30 showing the new passport  number in my case they even wanted my last TM 47, the IO was in a foul mood, it should be a simple 10 minute exercise, in the end the supervisor came and told her to do it.

I need medical certificate  for retirement visa, going to try  to book appointment at my doctors tomorrow.

Anybody done this recently. How long did   it take  ?   ,   is it worth going private.                                                          Thanks

My experience this was about 5 years ago, the doctors would not sign the medical form (reception said no doctor would sign a form saying you were free of the diseases without the required tests  and the NHS would not do it)

A few people were using private doctors in Harley street London, they said some doctors would do it for a few hundred pounds, but most would not unless you had the TB TEST  that was about 700 pound at a private clinic .(this was a facebook group)

Follow the advice here just apply for the non o, the O-A also requires a criminal record check, have you done that?

I'm quite sure that the OIC here in Thailand would not allow an insurer to add new exclusions at renewal unless the insured had failed to disclose a pre-existing condition in the original proposal. While I have no idea what the regulator on Nevis would or would not allow, it would certainly be unusual for a reputable insurer to do so.

I suspect that the intent of WRLife is to apply this new exclusion only on first policies issued after a certain date and this wording would not be applicable to renewals of policies issued prior to the introduction of the new wording. You are correct to request written evidence of this, preferably in the form of an endorsement to the policy itself. Keep your old policies so you could prove what the original terms and conditions were when you first obtained cover.

They can i have personal experience of this i had a Thai insurance policy linked to my visa  (so a well known company), after a small claim that they tried to wriggle out of (my doctor phoned them), then 3 months before my renewal. my hospital emailed me to say the insurance company wanted to see my medical records, i agreed. Then at renewal not only had my policy gone up 80%, they they added a load of exclusions for things i did not have and still don't have, it was as if they were looking at someone elses

medical records, i phoned them and they just said you have gone up a band as for the exclusions they would say nothing, my claim was for burnt tissue, a foot spa put neat acid on my feet despite me warning them, of course they had no 3rd party liability,

I did consider phoning the regulator, but thought the insurance company would simply refuse to pay out on any claims

I noticed this in BANGKOK those 70 baht heinz beans are made in China,  in Bangkok they had the British ones priced at 139 baht, and on the next isle the Chinese ones at 70 baht, the  labels looked identical until you read the small print. maybe i should have tried the 70 baht ones

  8. To work in Thailand as a nurse she will need to pass the Thai nursing exams which are written/spoken and all done in Thai, age wise can be a problem for all jobs in Thailand while there are plenty of older nurses they very likely started when they were much younger. Palliative care is not very advanced in Thailand, so her skill here could be very useful, my limited knowledge of palliative care here  is most of the 'nursing' is done by Myanmar staff with Thais as supervisors( i am talking about care homes here) and Thai doctors who visit when required, so this might be an avenue to explore, private care homes are growing in Thailand, with her experience i am sure she would find work. The pay for nurses is not very good and there are plenty of  nurse, shortages which can benefit her, best see what hospitals want with her english skills start at the top international hospitals
