  1. Are they playing God? It's a kind of Frankenstein story...ethical incorrect...should be banned

God gave humans the intelligence to allow development of this technology. Would it be unethical not to use the intelligence bestowed upon us?

By that argument. 'God gave us the intelligence to kill our fellow man. Would it be unethical not to use the intelligence bestowed upon us'?

If it is to protect our own survival, then the answer is Yes

Are heart, eye, kidney, lung, etc transplants all unethical? Predestination? Sounds like Jehovah Witness talk.

All medications or vaccinations invented by man have improved life quality and life expectancy. How can we judge a new technology simply because we are unfamiliar with it?

  2. It's Thailand, expect the unexpected at all times. And don't doubt for 1 minute who would be at fault, I read many years ago where a Falang waiting at a bus stop where the bus lost its breaks and seriously injured the Falang, who's fault, the Falang. Why ? If he hadn't been waiting at that bus stop he wouldn't have been injured. I don't doubt some 15 years later things have change but believe me they'll find a way out of it

Unfortunately, there are people who read this forum that will actually believe your totally unfounded and unsupported fairy tale. Hopefully the majority of readers will recognize bar talk when they see it. A Farang blamed for a bus accident. Really?

  3. The US has it's own human-trafficking problem and deflect attention at home by calling attention to other countries problems...

The reason Thailand should continue tackling their human-trafficking problem is because it is the right thing to do for a humane society and culture...

The US ability to force their will on other countries is in decline...and that is a good thing...

The USA has many problems. But they do allow the press to be transparent about the problems, and they are proactive about correcting the problems. The USA is a large, diverse country, and any laws passed, any actions taken, must be considered carefully. The world judges the USA more than any other country. They do their best to ensure fair treatment of their legal citizens.

  4. OP, I applaud your foresight and wishing to ensure a secure future for someone you care about. Just ignore the usual negative comments from the posters who are jealous that they are not human enough to experience a real life. I have taken steps, through wills, designated beneficiary, etc to ensure all my earthly belongings go to whom I choose upon my demise. I would suggest you consult a lawyer regarding the lease, rather than endure all the negative comments you are sure to receive on TVF.

  5. With oil at a decades low this is the time to lift all fossil fuel subsidies.

What will be debateable is how much the fuel tax will be as prices rise over the next five years. Currently, the Thai government has lost billions baht in revenue from lower value offshore oil and gas. It may find itself in the situation that fuel taxes will rise as much as any near future increase in fuel prices. Thus far, the Junta has not shown it can make hard economic decisions because of its vulernability to being a legitimate government.

I do not think Thailand is losing billions in revenue due to lower cost of offshore oil and gas. Thailand is a net importer of petroleum products. Thailand GDP does not depend on the export of oil and gas.

  6. If you can not find one, they are not difficult to make. Some Cat 5 wire, a couple of terminals, and a pair of crimping pliers. On second thought, buy a few extra terminals, sometimes it takes more than one try.

  7. Investigators said they would pursue all leads, including sex game gone wrong, lovers quarrel and attempt to cover up sexual violations and theft.

Those aren't leads, and none are even remotely pertinent to this crime, or finding the killer.

But sure makes for good copy when you really have no idea how to proceed.

I am not sure police forces always share all details of any investigation with news reporters.

  8. Can you image if this happen to a Aussie in Israel The Australian Government the UN and most of the world will go crazy

    But Saudi Arabia nothing

    Wake up soon

But I doubt that they will

Some countries have strict drug and alcohol laws. The whole world did not go crazy over a couple of Aussies caught with drugs in Indonesia. I doubt the whole world would go crazy over Aussie criminals in Israel. And the whole world will not go crazy over an Aussie breaking the law in KSA.

  9. No tourists don't care when there is some bombing.....Syria will the top tourist destination this year...

Does anyone have statistics on how USA shootings affect tourism? French grocery store shootings? Australian restaurant shootings? German airline travel? Why would tourists be so concerned over a very isolated incident of violence in Thailand? What makes it so different from all other countries? Everyone seems to believe Thai tourism will completely disappear, first protests, then street shootings, then a military coup, then the occasional unrest in isolated incidents. I sat in a restaurant in Bahrain, and CNN was showing the Saudi army rolling in, telling everyone that the country was in total mayhem. Eating our meal and enjoying a cocktail while watching this all on CNN supposedly taking place in our vicinity. Anyone with any intelligence realizes incidents in Thailand are localized. It is a large country The entire sky is not falling.

  10. Maybe no lights on the motor bike, there is quite a few of them

running about up here in CNX,no lights, dark clothes, nearly ran

into one a few nights ago.on the SuperHighway, most likely would

have been my fault if there had of been an accident, even when

they had no lights. take care, drive safe.

    regards worgeordie

If we are doing "maybes", maybe the Brit was getting a BJ and not watching the road? We can "maybe" all day long, but in the end, it is only supposition, isn't it?

  11. So even if he did cop a feel of this gal does it warrant three thai men bashing him up?

If it did happen it just gave the thai guys an excuse or good opportunity to bash someone up who was pretty pissed and not really likely to cause these three guys any problems.

Does someone sexually assaulting your sister warrant you kicking off??

    Erm....yes, very much so.

You come across as a typical, "I'm farang and can do as I please". You cop a feel of my wife and what those 3 did will pale in comparison.

It seems you have very little idea of what goes on in Pattaya?

We are not talking the pillars of society here.

So save your moral judgements and righteous indignation for people who deserve it.

And so everyone should just accept it and allow it to continue?

  12. A few years ago I had a similar experience, with the exception the Thai motor-bike rider did not die. He did brake both legs.

After going for my insurance company for untold compensation, which he did not get, the end of the story is I got 2 years jail. My lawyer got the sentence suspended for 2 years.

The motor-bike rider pulled straight out in front of me, but in court, being a foreigner, I was slaughtered. My legal costs were not small. My eventual fine was minute. I had my passport confiscated, which meant I was unable to leave Thailand.

I had the floor wiped up with me. Why ? Because I was a foreigner. Was on a hiding for nothing from the moment of impact. The police dealt with the matter in a very 2-faced way.

As a regular car driver here, this worries me a lot. I have always believed stuff like this to be one of the many myths about living in Thailand. 2 years in jail, even if suspended, and confiscating a passport seems excessive for breaking someone's legs. Were your lawyers in on it?

Maybe not on this thread, but I'd like to read a more detailed account of your unfortunate experience. Did you post it here?

Amongst several other reasons....the possible accident reason is the one main reason I have never even given thought about owning and or driving a Motor Vehicle here in Thailand.

Basically ( IF ) you do have an accident with a Thai person you are going to be held accountable regardless of the circumstances and or who did what and or what actually happened and who is at fault.

If the Thai person does not have insurance then who will be paying??

If the Thai person did have insurance then the Thai drivers insurance company will be thinking the foreigners insurance company should pay....even if the Thai driver was at fault ..and no doubt about it and obvious to everyone...the foreigner should pay.

If the foreigner has Thai company motor vehicle insurance then there is a good chance his insurance company will not cover him and think the same as everyone else....the foreigner should pay.

I would go so far as to say that if you were simply the passenger in a motor vehicle accident there is a very real chance they would try to hold you accountable in some manner.....and or try to make you part with your money...because you were there...that is why.

Do you (like Pattaya28) have personal experience of this or are you relating the commonly expressed view that the farang is alway to blame, irrespective of fault?

How can you dispute what was said in all sincerity in a bar, or posted on TVF?

  13. Op. Do NOT give in. Just because you chose to marry a girl from a different culture, and you chose to live in her homelands, that is absolutely no excuse for her wanting you to accept her family values. Do NOT give in. You come from a western country that is much more advanced, your society is so much better, and you have paid the bills. Sooner or later she will accept this and bow to your superiority.

  14. This is not the issue of how much the Thai worker is worth, this is really about the quality work of the local labor, which is quite crappy, Thai workers in general are not productive as their counterpart in China and VN, in most cases, they're lazy, irresponsible, dishonest and all around disloyal and uninspiring people to work with, hence the law remunerations they get for their mi pen rai attitude, I ought to know, I have employed hundreds of them in my factories both in Bkk and in up country....

Perhaps you get what you pay for, or your line management needs improvement. I have worked with Thais around the world. They are like everyone else. There are good, bad, and everything in between. Like any nationality, workers need to be properly motivated.

Thais working internationally are not the same people as Thais working at home....I too have worked with Thais in marine construction everywhere....and yes..they're very good.......they have to be as there's so much competition....but back here is a completely different story!

Do you think the fact they make more than minimum wage might be part of the motivation?
