Bloods thicker than water!!
A convicted criminal by his own countries laws, by judges appointed by said country, in self imposed exile still being granted a passport is incredulous
but then this is Thailand & we all know what that means!!
He'll have more air miles than us all put together, revoked.. NOT A CHANCE !!

Ok better to be flooded for 2 or 3 days than 1 month I agree, so you can get on with your livelihood, but the damage is already done to your home/business property & furniture/stock etc.
Better for the authorities to be more prepared than flooded out in the first place, it still sounds like they cannot handle the water run off, so they will flood the poor areas & give them minor handouts and keep the commercial elite dry & happy.

Thailand cannot reduce the number of plastic bags or bottles produced or used in daily life, because if this number was reduced by half then think of how many Thais would be out of work doing the recycling bit for a living.
No Thailand will keep producing & Thais will keep recycling.
Just out of interest how far inland will the clean-up go in Pattaya, lots of pollution & 2 legged flotsam their to be cleaned up too !!

This type of corruption will only stop when the order from the very top say's enough is enough, and that's not likely to happen any time soon.
Every country has a culture of corruption to some degree, Thailand takes it to a whole new level where the already rich & famous think it is their god given right to steal more from those that have nothing, only to fill their already bulging pockets !!
How they stand in front of the Buddha & put their hands up in innocence I do not know, the depth of deceit is mind blowing !!

No, no problem at all, like all problems, if you ignore it long enough it will go away.
Didn't work with my missus

In reply to various above posts:
Checking mirrors !! In my neck of the woods they think mirrors are an optional extra !!
Under cutting is a standard procedure (reinforced by the person waiting behind you)
overtaking at junctions, corners or any where else in fact is exceptable behaviour.
Railway crossings are a free for all (police in attendance or not)
School times are for "Mums" not regulations.
Vehicles loaded to the maximum & beyond is excepatable ( tea money)
As for vehicles having fully functioning brakes, lights etc well lets not even go there !!

In reply to the above post is that if someone is "indicating" then absolutely DO NOT on any circumstances believe them.
It's probably still in this position from the day before!!
My observations trained me from a very early stage the best policy is to look, look & look again then look again before moving.. I'm still alive.
The above post #12 by NangrongJ you are 100% correct.. good luck to your wife.. she'll need it, although you have obviously taught her well you can't account for the other road users!!

Biggest load of rubbish that I have read this year.. and I have read a lot of rubbish !!
Surely if the cars are fitted with all the latest safety features & aids to the driver then the number of accidents should be dropping?
Cars DO NOT cause accidents, it has been & always will be the person behind the wheel making the decisions.
Yes I agree sometimes pure accidents do happen.. but rarely!!
It doesn't matter what the drivers budget is, or even if the car is a brand new model off the showroom floor or a second hand model a few years old.
What matters most is that the driver has taken enough driving lessons with a qualified instructor, has studied & understands the highway driving code.
That they understand all the roadside signs, the road surface signs, the traffic signals etc.
Also when they have reached a suitable level of daytime driving ability they are taken out for night time instruction.
Also skills like road side parking or reversing properly.
All these skills should be attained during a properly supervised training period, then a strict test of driving skills, a written test, & a verbal test taken to ensure they have the ability to take a vehicle onto the road.
Then the person would have the ability to drive not only a shiny new car but an old banger too!!
It appears that in some regions if you can turn the key & start the car and know how to move forward then you are qualified, unfortunately these skills don't keep you alive for very long!!

A number of insurgents led by Wae-aricopter Waji reportedly proposed to turn themselves as part of a plea bargain scheme under Article 21 of the Security Law - but Chalerm said those who had committed criminal acts had no right to bargain for amnesty.

I hope Yingluk finds the time to visit each & every family affected again this year by flooding, caused only by natural rainfall.
Maybe she can apologise for her little "white" lie regarding her statement "there won't be any floods this year" & explain why residents now find themselves yet again waist deep in water or sitting in a boat being evacuated to an emergency centre.
While she is there maybe she can hand out some hard cash, food & water to help the locals, instead of promising the impossible from her "out of their depth" team of water advisers.
Time to cut Thailand out of the solution and bring in some foreign experts who can do the job.. without grafts !!

As a "farang" living in Thailand I can understand your worries with the loss of contact with your friend for what is now an extended period of time..
However you do not say if you have had any contact with your friends wife or family in Thailand, or if indeed they have reported him as missing, do they have any information from any police investigation.
It does seem very strange that so soon after transferring all his assets & making a permanent move he should disappear??

It's what we all expected to hear, nothing new..
Bangkok will always have it's own water retention problems simply because when faced with high rainfall it has nowhere to go, compound this with run-off from elsewhere & floods will surely follow.
Why are canals still being reported as having garbage in them, surely this was the first thing to be cleared & the easiest thing to do, followed by dredging if found to have have become shallow.
But credit where it is due.. I am impressed by the ability of the authorities to measure increase in levels to the nearest 0.5mm

If the government is sincere about anti corruption then this should be the first of many heads to roll.. let the purge continue even if years after the crime has been committed.
As for his offence, sack him without a retirement package, I'm sure he won't starve !!

A large proportion of CCTV cameras in London are monitored & can be controlled from central locations, this means criminals can actually be tracked from one camera to the next & so-on, while information is passed to the police on the ground.
They are not all stationary cameras only to be used for viewing footage after the criminals have left the area.

Dr Royal Chitradon, chairman of the Water and Flood Management Commission's sub-committee on water situation analysis.
Is that as in.. submarine ??
Now that's forward thinking

Must be a computer generated photo & malicious people spreading rumours..
I have it on good authority from the very highest position in the land that there won't be any floods this year!!

Some disrespectful posts as well conspiracy theory posts and replies have been removed.
Which seemed to include my post for reasons not understood ??
So I will say again:
This is NOT the first time this has happened, I visited this farm 11 years ago & exactly the same thing happened to an unfortunate young lady

Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt-General Khamronwit Thoopkrajang.. openly admits "I put up pictures of who ever I hold in high esteem as a reminder to myself, and don't see why this should be troubling to anyone.. and that he considers a convicted fugitive from a country in which he holds a high position within the law a "brother"
Thailand has absolutely no chance of law & order and no respect from it's people of a sense of justice & fairness, if Yingluk had any leadership or morale values she would sack him immediately !!

The survey on corruption in Thailand was conducted Aug 26-Sept 4 and announced Wednesday on the eve of National Anti-Corruption Day. A total of 1,028 people in 20 provinces were questioned in the poll.
Rough maths this equates to 5.14 people every day in each of the 20 provinces polled... must have been a long questionnaire !!

The law of gravity is certainly different in Thailand, you can push s**t uphill but apparently not water..

Ok this is my last post today on the "flooding issue" it's saturated enough already sorry couldn't resist that one !!
But to close this post with an open question:
