  1. Ok better to be flooded for 2 or 3 days than 1 month I agree, so you can get on with your livelihood, but the damage is already done to your home/business property & furniture/stock etc.

Better for the authorities to be more prepared than flooded out in the first place, it still sounds like they cannot handle the water run off, so they will flood the poor areas & give them minor handouts and keep the commercial elite dry & happy.

  2. Thailand cannot reduce the number of plastic bags or bottles produced or used in daily life, because if this number was reduced by half then think of how many Thais would be out of work doing the recycling bit for a living.

No Thailand will keep producing & Thais will keep recycling.

Just out of interest how far inland will the clean-up go in Pattaya, lots of pollution & 2 legged flotsam their to be cleaned up too !!

  3. In reply to various above posts:

Checking mirrors !! In my neck of the woods they think mirrors are an optional extra !!

Under cutting is a standard procedure (reinforced by the person waiting behind you)

overtaking at junctions, corners or any where else in fact is exceptable behaviour.

Railway crossings are a free for all (police in attendance or not)

School times are for "Mums" not regulations.

Vehicles loaded to the maximum & beyond is excepatable ( tea money)

As for vehicles having fully functioning brakes, lights etc well lets not even go there !!

  4. In reply to the above post is that if someone is "indicating" then absolutely DO NOT on any circumstances believe them.

It's probably still in this position from the day before!!

My observations trained me from a very early stage the best policy is to look, look & look again then look again before moving.. I'm still alive.

The above post #12 by NangrongJ you are 100% correct.. good luck to your wife.. she'll need it, although you have obviously taught her well you can't account for the other road users!!

  5. As a "farang" living in Thailand I can understand your worries with the loss of contact with your friend for what is now an extended period of time..

However you do not say if you have had any contact with your friends wife or family in Thailand, or if indeed they have reported him as missing, do they have any information from any police investigation.

It does seem very strange that so soon after transferring all his assets & making a permanent move he should disappear??

  6. It's what we all expected to hear, nothing new..

Bangkok will always have it's own water retention problems simply because when faced with high rainfall it has nowhere to go, compound this with run-off from elsewhere & floods will surely follow.

Why are canals still being reported as having garbage in them, surely this was the first thing to be cleared & the easiest thing to do, followed by dredging if found to have have become shallow.

But credit where it is due.. I am impressed by the ability of the authorities to measure increase in levels to the nearest 0.5mm clap2.gif

  7. Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt-General Khamronwit Thoopkrajang.. openly admits "I put up pictures of who ever I hold in high esteem as a reminder to myself, and don't see why this should be troubling to anyone.. and that he considers a convicted fugitive from a country in which he holds a high position within the law a "brother"

Thailand has absolutely no chance of law & order and no respect from it's people of a sense of justice & fairness, if Yingluk had any leadership or morale values she would sack him immediately !!
