  1. PI, same same as Cambodia, last refuge for Cheap Charlies who cant afford Thailand.

Some of us could easily afford to live in Thailand but prefer somewhere less xenophobic and where you don't have to jump through all the fiery immigration hoops. Expats in Thailand are not exactly the cream of the crop, either.

The pinoys are right up there on a par with Thailand when it comes to xenophobia, the amount of times I heard, "in the Phillipines you must", 'its Phillipine way" or "in the Phillipines".

Never had a Thai ask me for my watch "for rememberance"

As for "fiery immigration hoops", never experienced any here in Thailand, I was doing a visa renewal last month, pretty painless process, in and out in less than 15 minutes.

    I've heard that before somewhere ... whistling.gif

  2. Said it before here, find a big local law firm, give them a small retainer, and carry their cards with you. When you are stopped, smile and hand the cops the card, and keep your mouth shut.

It's worked for me three times in the last 5 years. Each time they've handed it back with a smile and moved on.

  3. The guys that enjoy the nonsense are always the same lot - reliving a lost youth or never having grown up at all.

The guys that are the worst have no clue what the holiday is even about, have never seen the 3 day holiday in traditional form. Think its about fun, titties, beer and water guns. Then there are the losers that book flights (no lie) to actually go to Pattaya to be in the middle of it.

Show me a man who likes the holiday and I will show you a tourist who knows nothing of Thailand and doesn't care.

If you see fun in what has become senseless danger, you are truly lost.

This is not to discredit a bit of fun or the holiday as traditionally celebrated. Want a nice balance and good fun? Try Luang Prabang, used to be great with ceremonies, parades and boats across the river for a big party. Of course, Lao people so lovely anyway.

Loy Kratong was also finished in Pattaya a decade ago. What a lovely festival that was in Thailand. Now..few ladies dress for it. Done properly in only a few places.

Yeah, compare this childish idiocy to the Running of the Bulls, and it says much about the minds that "enjoy" it.

Where I lived before, Songran was celebrated one day only. Gently. A shop lady asked me if she could pour a thimble full of water on me. I consented, and we parted company with smiles.

The next wasted fat f*@k foreigner that throws a bucket of water in my face while I'm riding a motorbike in traffic, is, well, I don't want to have to defend against "premeditated, so I'll stop here.

  4. A Lawyer practice in Phuket actually advertises this service in a popular newspaper for those folk that don't have the 800k!!

    How does that work??

Maybe he's giving you a retainer to be his client by putting money in your escrow account and then months later you decide not to be his client and ... um, what Jingthing said.

There is no corruption in Thailand.

  5. Thai pharmacists! Ha!

In my town I asked the "pharmacist" for aspirin, stating it was for lower back pain (she asked).

    "Sorry, Thai people don't like."

"Uh, okay, but I'm not Thai. So, have any?"

"Aspirin is no good for you. Only paracetamol is good for back pain."

    "Paracetamol has little anti-inflammatory action."

"I have paracetamol. It's very good."

Paracetamol would be good for back pain, but if you have done the 4 year university course in pharmacy than perhaps your right.

No, but I was a paramedic, and a PA.

The anti-inflammatory is essential for lower back pain.

  6. If you think Thailand is bad, try Mexico.

Lived there for years. Never had a cop try to shake me down. They don't mess with small fry like 100 baht for no helmet. They'd laugh at such foolishness. They go for the big time, drugs.

  7. Hows about building a Incinerator for the Locals with proper filters. i know at a cost to you, but the question would be, would they use it.

That would involve carrying their waste to the incinerator. As the majority will not walk 2 steps to deposit their rubbish in a bin, I really doubt that they would be inclined to use a communal incinerator.

They have those. Just can't use'm for trash.
