  1. Post in German language removed. @LudwigK 16. English is the only permitted language anywhere on ASEAN NOW, except within the Thai language forum, where using Thai is allowed. Short Thai translations of technical terms are permitted in specialty forums. While we make allowances for members who do not speak English as their first language, we expect everyone to make an effort to post in a manner that allows others to understand their posts. As an international forum we have members from many countries in the world, and English is not the first language of every poster.

  8. Madrid, Spain – 30 August 2025: Baxdrostat 1 mg or 2 mg once daily led to statistically significant reductions in blood pressure compared with placebo at 12 weeks in patients with uncontrolled or treatment-resistant hypertension, according to a late-breaking trial presented in a Hot Line session today at ESC Congress 2025. The proportion of patients with controlled SBP (<130 mmHg) after 12 weeks was 39.4% with baxdrostat 1 mg, 40% with baxdrostat 2 mg and 18.7% with placebo. Professor Williams concluded: “These BaxHTN trial findings are an important advance in treatment and in our understanding of the cause of hard-to-control BP. In patients with uncontrolled or resistant hypertension, the addition of baxdrostat 1 mg or 2 mg once daily to background antihypertensive therapy led to clinically meaningful reductions in SBP, with no unanticipated safety findings. This suggests that aldosterone is playing an important role in causing hard-to-control BP and offers hope for more effective treatment in the future.” https://www.escardio.org/The-ESC/Press-Office/Press-releases/Blood-pressure-reductions-with-baxdrostat-in-patients-with-uncontrolled-or-resistant-hypertension
  9. A new drug is showing strong promise for people whose high blood pressure has resisted existing treatments. Researchers describe the development as a major advance, with early results suggesting it could change how stubborn cases of hypertension are managed. High blood pressure affects more than 1.3 billion people worldwide, and about half either remain uncontrolled or respond poorly to current medication. This group faces a sharply increased risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney problems and shortened life expectancy, making new therapeutic options especially important. The drug, called Baxdrostat, was tested in the BaxHTN trial involving nearly 800 patients at more than 200 clinics around the globe. After 12 weeks, participants taking baxdrostat recorded average blood pressure reductions of 9–10 mmHg beyond those seen with a placebo. Experts note that this level of improvement is large enough to meaningfully cut cardiovascular risk, marking the results as a significant step forward in hypertension care. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/aug/30/drug-baxdrostat-gamechanger-high-blood-pressure-hypertension

  13. George Clooney had to step away from the Venice Film Festival this week after falling ill, though the actor has faced far more serious health challenges in the past. The 64-year-old star of Noah Baumbach’s competition entry Jay Kelly cut short a press session on Wednesday and skipped a private dinner with colleagues and Netflix executives. Sources said Clooney began feeling unwell in the afternoon and was advised to rest ahead of Thursday’s scheduled press conference and the film’s premiere. His sudden withdrawal meant he was absent from an evening gathering with Baumbach, 55, and co-stars Adam Sandler and Laura Dern, both 58. A representative later explained that Clooney is suffering from a sinus infection and, following medical advice, has had to limit his festival commitments. Despite the setback, organisers expect him to rejoin promotional duties once he has recovered. https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/george-clooneys-health-battles-full-35811941
  14. Meghan Markle has faced fresh criticism as reviewers take aim at the second season of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan. The latest instalment, released on Tuesday, mirrors the style of the first season, featuring the Duchess of Sussex cooking and entertaining celebrity guests. Although the show has received some favourable reactions, a number of commentators remain unimpressed. Meghan has not responded publicly to the backlash, instead continuing to promote clips from the programme on social media. Among the detractors is The Spectator, which branded the new season “every bit as dreadful as the first.” Columnist Alexander Larman argued that repeated efforts to establish her as a solo star—through television projects, podcasts, and her As Ever lifestyle brand—have so far fallen short of expectations. https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/2101653/meghan-markle-humiliated-netfix-critics
  15. Bill Clinton, the former US President, has prompted renewed speculation about his health after being photographed with what appeared to be a portable defibrillator while leaving the Hamptons. The 79-year-old, accompanied by his wife Hillary, 77, was seen carrying a Propaq MD Air Medical Bag, a device used for patient monitoring and emergency resuscitation. The moment has drawn attention because of Clinton’s long record of medical problems. Over the past two decades he has undergone major heart surgery, had stents fitted, experienced a collapsed lung, been hospitalised with sepsis, and was treated for a fever as recently as last year. Each episode has left observers alert to any sign of new trouble. https://www.express.co.uk/news/us/2102176/bill-clinton-health-fears-explode

  18. Nearly 1,000 asylum seekers staying in three Bristol hotels are set to receive extra support, including English classes, employment workshops, GP advice, and SIM cards. While some councils nationwide resist government hotel placements, Bristol City Council plans to expand help for people fleeing war and persecution. The Green-led council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting refugees. Protests last weekend saw clashes in the city centre between opponents of the hotels and anti-racist demonstrators. A new “sanctuary strategy” will explore further ways for the council to assist asylum seekers in partnership with local organisations. Source:Bristolpost.co.uk
