  1. But I'm just wondering how you become an Honorary Member by suggesting that other members are liars (to be nice) or morons!! post-4641-1156693976.gif

Everyone can get that title for making on average 5 posts a day over 6 years, although it really says nothing about the quality of your posts.

But back OT. These videos give us some of that innocence back about Thailand that most of us had when Thailand was new and exciting and promised us lots of things.

What I'd love to know how you are financing all of this during the best years of your lives (in terms of earning potential). J can actually pass for a Thai from a distance if he doesn't speak, might come in handy one day.

  2. I lived in Thailand for over 4 years and still return regularly and apart from the odd misunderstanding nobody has put a knife in me, cheated me for a big amount or stolen anything from me.

    yet

Ha ha! Wise guy! ... This may sound funny but I really do not expect any of those things to happen in the future and my street smarts to lead me into the right direction.

  3. Speedy recovery to the injured man.

I wish ThaiVisa would give us a break from these crime reports. It's not that I can't handle them but those that see Thailand in a negative light already only use them to further cement their view. Also, it's boring to read the same negative comments in every thread how Thailand is going down the drain... Aren't we all? I say to that.

  4. Or train from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet for 48 baht, 60 - 80 baht for transportation to the border, $1 for moto driver after border crossing and then $8 to Phnom Penh (pay at the bus inside the bus station only and ignore everyone else). Can't do it any cheaper than that. I would recommend taking the afternoon train and spending the night in Aran and being at border crossing at 7. Not sure how far you can get when you take the morning train. PP is a bit too far to get there in half a day overland.

Bus travel from BKK to Koh Kong, Cambodian border via Trat takes about 4 hours by bus to Trat, a 45 minute van trip from Trat to the border, and a 15 minute taxi, tuk tuk, or motorcycle ride to Koh Kong. The total is about 400-500 Bt.

Crossing the border takes about 20-30 minutes and a 200 m walk. Pay the small fee one of the locals touts asks to take your visa through the process and you will avoid the hassel of having to fight with the greedy immigration officers over the fact that a visa only costs $20.

A bus from Koh Kong to PNH takes about 4.5 - 5 hours and cost $18 (i.e.540 Bt) a year ago. The bus from Koh Kong to Sihanoukville takes about 4-4.5 hours. The Cambodian buses I took a year ago were very nice double decker buses like the tour companies use here in Thailand, not one of the old tired junkers that are used by the Thai bus companies.

The trip though Poipet and Bantumbang to PNH is longer.

Plan on spending a full day on buses and arriving in PNH in early evening. Water and soft drinks are usually served on the Thai express busses and on the Cambodian busses but I alwasy take a bottle of water as well. There are usually chances to get off the bus to eat but take your own food if you aren't fond of Thai or Cambodian food. If you do buy Thai or Cambodian food buy only fresh cooked food or hot soup to avoid the Bangkok or PNH Trots.

  5. Thai - style ; The ignoring Thai vendor suddenly got involved when a foreigner asked him to help. I've never seen a Thai civilian lift an eyebrow not to mention do anything to help in an emergency situation. If they are guilty they flee - if not, they just stop and stare. As a falang I would not get involved, even if I have the qualifications.( Dr)

Did it once and nearly got lynched cause the "rescue" wanted to rip all values from the poor lady who went down in a MB accident.sick.gif

OK, so if a Thai does not help it's a deplorable national character flaw, when you don't help it's just good common sense?

  6. Humm...only like 10000 hotels in Bangkok...where to start.

Just stay well clear of Agoda, not included in price are taxes etc. They use the small print for that.

Something I found out when I used them for the booking and was not that pleased about BUT these booking websites now will drop every hotel that offers guests a lower rate in any form, so you won't overpay when booking through them. And the hotels certainly do not wish to be dropped...

  7. Hopefully, this change put some strength back into Mr. Maeter.

I foresee more & more Western retirees moving to Asia, either because they want to or because of low pension payments they can no longer afford life in the West (although the falling Euro is making things more expensive now). It would be nice to have retiring villages, nursing homes and hospices geared for that type of clientele.

  8. We got to listen to Led Zep, Pinkl Floyd, Roxy Music, Steely Dan and Springsteen growing up and they get Justin Beiber and Lady bloody Gaga!

This is an unfair comparison. Not all people in a generation listen to the same music and there was plenty of awful shlock back in the 60's & 70s and there is still plenty of good stuff around now... and I'm 50, btw, so not anywhere near the current pop-consumming age.

  9. At least she didn't say anything about wanting to see ladyboys or visiting a gay go-go bar to see some **** tongue.png

I had first encountered her music in Asia. I was in Phnom Penh at the happening Blue Chili bar and the drag performers were doing their lipsynch acts. This Western guy had picked "Just Dance", which I had never heard before but boy did I hear it then! The room just erupted on the chorus, it was on a scale of what Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" had done to people in the 90s. I knew right there & then that she was going to be huge. It was a great musical moment for a music lover like me and she's been "on my good side" ever since (even though I find her last album cover nausea inducing).

  10. wont need to wait for a hearing ,in thailand this is utter <deleted> ,never will happen and this guy can do it again ,

Do what?? A statement from a woman so drunk that she couldn't open the door to her room. And you think the receptionist is guilty. My money is on one of her 'friends'.

How about just leaving it open for now after reading just this one report? Are Thaivisa posts some kind of a competition for "long-distance detectives".

  11. Thailand is clearly one of the most accepting countries when it comes to LTGB. I never saw as many of them so openly going out and about their lives here in Thailand than in any other country on this planet. Every movie and every sitcom features at least one gay character. They're perfectly accepted in society here. OK, they can't legally marry here yet, but that doesn't say anything about their acceptance.

Sorry, but I disagree. It's more like, as long as you do not talk about it you can do whatever you want and others will pretend they do not see it.

Also, many of the gay characters on TV are not there as fully equal personalities. Watch closely.
