Air Malaysia cheated me two years ago on a sunday morning on Frankfurt Airport on my way to Phuket. I am living since 12 years in Thailand and proved that by showing my passport and told them, Germans dont need a Visa for 30 days. I had to buy another ticket from them, otherwise they dont let me boarding.....NEVER someone asked me in Thailand on arrival for showing a leaving Thailand ticket... Thats pure money making of the airlines...anyway, you should at least print out a flight, easy to do on most airline pages.

They did *not* cheat you, they are just very strict with the regulations. I had to sign a form with them in 2006 that I would have to pay myself if rejected by Thai immigration or they would not let me board (and I was traveling upfront, btw).

In that case I had an e-ticket - on Malaysian as well, which the check in lady from Fraport didn't accept, saying it had to be a paper ticket. I said "print it then", she said "we can't here, only at the city office" - me: "that's not my problem". Finally, the signing of the form meant they let me board.

They are shown that everyone needs to have return ticket and they are very strict. I also had an issue with KLM in Barcelona once. They are all shitting their pants that they will be made to pay a big fine if you are rejected. And let's face it, the Thai's might just wake up one day and decide to really enforce this rule, ya never know... I was just incensed that my e-ticket - in this age of paperless tickets was not accepted.

While trains can crash as well, I'd love to see a comparison figure of people killed taking buses while taking trains. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Wow talk about inflation. A couple of them same type of dudes tried that scam on me 8 years ago, then they wanted US$15,000 to buy the chemical from the US embassy lol. 6 days later they were both dead.

I find this extraordinary. Thai people are so gentle and kind with their young kids (in fact over protective in many occasions) that to read of such a shocking event is unusual to say the least. Whatever the circumstances may the poor lad RIP and the perpetrator of this shocking crime get everything that he deserves.

What goes on behind the walls, nobody knows... And as you surely are aware of, appearances/keeping face are even more focused on in Thailand and Asia.

I'm not surprised. The most open sex talk by men - outside the West and without me raising the issue - I encountered on Bali.

As the majority of the world's population seems to be poor and getting by on near unemployment things would not look good, then. On the other hand as overpopulation is perhaps the largest issue we are facing, this might just be 'God's solution' to this problem, prayers answered - done & dusted.

It is best to always use the same ATMs for withdrawals, so that you can notice any changes made to the card entering slot right away. Always hide the secret code entering process with the other hand. Some pay out slots were also manipulated with sticky tape (no idea how they manage that as to stay in place and hold back the money.

I had forgotten this story until this thread brought it back to me.

A few years back i met a guy, about 30, who lived on Nana and had a decent job on an expat package.

Every day, returning home from work, he passed a bar where a slightly cross-eyed but very beautiful woman would simply smile at him as he passed. One evening while in his cups he stopped in to talk to her, and as it often happens, ended up bringing her home.

According to him, she was a very sweet thing and as time passed they began to spend more time together, though she never stayed for long.

As the relationship progressed, she became more and more lethargic and eventually lost her job in the bar for not showing up all that regularly. [... snip...]

What a horrible and very sad story. I've never heard anything like that before.

Come on the guy did her a huge favor. It's one of the best stories about Thai-foreign relations I have ever heard.

I would like to try Emirates next time as it's even more miles than going via Istanbul. It seems there's been fewer 4 year prison sentences for farting, swearing, 3 poppy seeds in shirt pocket, 0.003 grams of dope residue on shoe soul, carrying melatonin pills and the like in Dubai... So, perhaps they've calmed down a bit.

In February, I rolled up in Poipet with my $20 bill. A uniformed official filled out the form for me than sheepishly asked for a tip. I asked him how much he had in mind and then hid my relief when he asked for $1. I've never gotten away with paying so little there when I didn't have a visa already.

I will have the e-Visa again next year. This year I had thought I might use one of the border crossings where it's not accepted (and had missed a Buddhist holiday when going to the embassy - DOH!).

but thats the way it is, its too difficult for immigrants ( mention mexico here too) to stay in their own lands and take it back from the corrupt govs. that make life difficult for those on the bottom of the order
