1. Would it be too much trouble for a newbie like me travelling to Thailand for the first time to find My way using buses, skytrain etc. from the airport to Soi 4 where I am staying in Sukhimvet?

2. I fI have to take a taxi, how much will it cost? I have read that 200baht will get you to any part of bangkok. Is this true? Should I tip the driver? 10 or 20 baht?

3. Tipping in general, what is a good amount to give the hotel porter? 20 baht?

1 no prob at all .. easy , take a cab or airport bus to Suk, ..and for skytrain is over there

2 better check meter from taxi , maybe u have to add 50 BHt from taxi que there

3 20 is fine .. (atleast)

Just to add a little to Bambinas Information.

I presume you will arrive at BKK Airport?

Taxi from Airport:

Get one from the Taxi Stand Cost +50 Bht but safe,

They will ask you where you go so driver will know.

Make sure Meter on, YOU will pay Extra for Toll Way not driver.

Cost 200 to 250 Bht+ toll that you will already have paid.

Tip? up to you but 20 to 50 Bht for Taxi & 20 Bht at Hotel about right.

Dentist:

Very Good, I try not to use Dentist in UK, Very expensive in comparison.

For the rest of your questions, Travel, Enjoy and don’t try to plan too much.

Too much to see and do and never enough time!!

Got married last Friday at the local amphur office. We each got our certificates in Thai. I asked about one in English, but was told they couldn't do it there.

I know you can get them, I just don't know the proceedure. Do I go to a translation office, get another certificate in English and then have it certified by the amphur office? That would seem to be the easiest way to go.

Normal with letter of freedom to marry,

I asked at the Embassy if it was necessary to register there after marriage?

No but maybe a “Good Idea” to translate Marriage Certificate to English ready for when we go to England as Translation required for Wife’s Visa Application

2 years ago I re-plumed my home, hot and cold + Central heating,

Only one leak and that was from the rising main inlet.

Never tackled pluming before so was quite chuffed.

Quality of Fittings are a little different, here so no unexpected problems but soldering joints takes a long time to acquire the knack, especially as I learnt from book.

Only part that I was worried about was the gas feed,

Checked by appropriate qualified engineer,

CORGIE Registered and he was quite impressed.

My knowledge of “New technology” is I admit sadly lacking.

How about lessons i.e.:

An easy to read instruction list that people like me can understand for Navigating around the site

Hard especially for me as I am Dyslexic, (Main reason I started to us a PC, Spellchecker)

Even now when replying to postings, I first write reply in word, spell check, then copy and paste.

Still a mystery to me how people place Pictures, Emoticons, Changes Text Size and Colour.

I have three thoughts. The first one is that anyone who depends on a motorcycle for their primary transportation in Thailand has a death wish. The second thought is that I have a motorcycle too. I use it to go back and forth to the local market and avoid driving on the highway and would NEVER drive in Bangkok, Pattaya or any other city. The third more practical thing is if an animal jumps out in front of you aim for its middle. If you can avoid swerving you have a good chance to remain upright. I have a friend who swerved for a chicken and he had all kinds of road rash. You DO need a helmet.
