  1. Just an observation but if you are thinking of committing to buying a property maybe it would pay to go to that area and take a look in person?

And IMO, srinakarin road is not the most interesting part of Bkk.... lack of soul, too much cement, endless road.

I don't see Srinakharin road as being greatly different to other outer suburbs but in its favour its got good shopping centres, Rama 9 park, not far from Bang pu seafood restaurants, close to the BTS with a new line to go down or close to srinakharin road in the future, close to bangna trat and outer ring road, and close to Suvarnabhumi. Not too shabby.

To be honest, i completely agree with you. I have been there only a few times, in spite i was living "near" in Bangkapi. Mostly because i didnt get any vibe from this part of town.... thats just a question of personal feeling.

No doubts, it got a bit of a soulless feeling but it's the people who make your home a home. I think it's still quite affordable and some of the places can be bought up pretty cheap.

There is a BTS extension coming, towards the airport link and other things that will hopefully bring some ROI after 20+ years and I get to live for 'free' in it, in the meantime.

Example: Same developer, similar village.. house in Srinakarin 14mb - same house in the city centre 31m baht. Location, location, location...

Just an observation but if you followed the thread you might noticed that I commute from the area back and forth?

  3. Your 'dream' or 'vision' is totally without focus

What do you want to achieve? Why do you want to do this, whatever it is? What are your priorities for success? How would you estimate your success or failure? How are you going to live? With whom.? What skills do you have that you can deploy? Seems like you are adrift in the world. Neither Thailand nor Bali is going to solve that problem.I guess you are not poor. I would say that, as a start, think about finding somewhere where you can learn from people for whom materialism is not the be all and end all of life and to whose lives you could contribute also. Good luck

I wonder if the OPs focus is just attention getting.

I wonder what your focus is by posting this. Mine is transparent: I posted rambling explanation looking for pointers on places to research.

I ended up casting a huge troll net, apparently.

scorecard: Please return to fapping to ladyboy porn. And don't stress: your SS check will get deposited in a few days and they'll let you back into whatever pedo palace you call your second home.

Wow, that escalated quickly. Did I miss something that the spiritual seeker is already shooting ladyboys down (not so spiritual are we?) and then pulls the pedo card?

Bit uncalled for and your ladyboy comment shows how open you are to buddhism and acceptance of other forms of life. You are just another ignorant american, nothing else.

Go get your super sized coke with free refill and wear your Thailand T-shirt while doing tho, so you can educate the cashier at McDonalds about Buddhism and Thailand.

  4. Out of all the malls around here, Paradise Park is by far the best for my personal likening. Villa market which is no different than the one on Thonglor, then 9naliga to service / trade my watches.

Some casual sport shop to buy some gym clothes and I think they even got a cineplex. Not much people around for a Saturday evening, so my trip was very enjoyable.

I think I can really get used to this side of town. There is really no reason to drive back to Sukhumvit unless it's business related or to visit some friends. Everything you can find on Siam (except the high-end brand names), you can find in this part of town too, if you look hard enough.

Niche-Cars is around the corner too, so I can get my car serviced without driving half way across Bangkok. Lots of personal plus points for me around here.

So far so good - no complaints. Traffic is a bit of headache at certain times but therefor the housing prices are still reasonable as it's not overrun by foreigners, BTS/MRT lines or any of this stuff. Most people around here, or at least in our village seem to be higher middle class thais with a condo in the city for work (mo - fri) and pay off their mortgage for their house in the suburbs (Srinakarin), which they utilize on the weekends and holidays.

Just judging by the cars in the parking lots and the occupancy during the week vs the weekend.

Any more tips regarding restaurants, activities are welcome. Still looking for something like a proper Spa, preferable with a tennis court. Any leads would be great. Not a golfer, as I still have an active sex life - so I'll pass on that biggrin.png

  5. The Pattaya barstools are custom-made for foreign Special Forces...

Stop making of the Special Forces. Some of us actually are ex US Navy Seals and we have the string of medals to flash in the bar to prove it. Otherwise come and call me a fake to my face.

    You obviously missed the joke.

Every second punter in a bar in Pattaya pretends to be some ex special forces, sas, cia, fbi guy in his former life, but now he found Pattaya.

In reality its 99% average joe's and below in wife beaters and socks with sandals. Of course theres the odd one out like you - maybe - but it's pretty rare wink.png

  6. PREMIER PLACE on srinakharin has Scoozi (another one in Mega) which is decent and there's an Indian restaurant I have yet to try.

Hotels in the area are places we tend use. Novotel Suvarnabhumi is good to eat at. The newish Meridian Suvarnabhumi is very nice.

For good seafood, try Sailom Bangpu on sukhumvit road near the crocodile farm...very nice place since its recent refurb.

    Thank you :)

  7. srinakarin, its in Bkk, but quite far from the center, you will need your own car.

And to reach center Bkk, it will be a long journey.

Like someone said you cant buy a house on your name... hope you dont buy under your wife s name....whistling.gif

Center as in Siam? Takes 10 minutes to thonglor if that and depending on traffic another 10-15mins to Siam.

with no traffic, by night, yes it will take 25 minutes to reach siam center.

In daytime, in your long journey, better you bring a book to read.

Depends - not driving in office rush hours. Took me a good 15 mins this morning from getting into the car to Suk Soi 26 - opposite thonglor road. Not all that bad.

  8. Talk him out of it. I know theres lots of doom and gloom but I can only tell you from first hand experience that it doesn't matter how good you or your friends drives.

It really is the other idiots on the streets that kill you.

I almost got killed (and killed) some old guy, while going on 'super bike' on a country road towards Bang Saray which had a speed limit of 120mk/h outside of Pattaya, when some old guy decided to drive his bike across the road to get on the other side. I hit him at full speed and luckily we both got up after the accident. Had to pay 3,000 baht to the cop at the scene and my own hospital bill was around 15,000 baht.

I had no chance to break, swerve out not to hit him or anything like that. It all happened in a matter of milliseconds and you won't see it coming. All I remember is that I flew and slide a few hundred meters on the concrete and the old guy got his glasses broken and his bike was utterly trashed. Once the ambulance and police arrived I pieced together what happened and collected my mirrors and other parts from the road..

Now we have a scooter drive around our village and thats where it ends. Everything else is done by car now. I only got lucky that day and so did the old gentlemen. A little bit to the right or left and either of us or both could be dead today.

  10. quite a few nice upscale Resto's (and drinking places - imported Belgian beers galore, for example) at the foodwalk attached to the actual Mega Bangna mall building (which is easily Thailand's most pleasant mall anyway)

Thank you. That is what I was looking for.
