  1. Comparing a Thailand Elite PE visa (and all the services attacked to it) with any other type of visa is like comparing a guest house with a luxury hotel, a Toyota with a Bentley, a basic credit card with a platinum card, a noodle shop with a fine cuisine restaurant...

There are cheap options for everything.

    The choice is there.

Please explain me to me how and I don't mean to be one of the pattaya 10 baht atm saving fee brigade here, but please tell me what the benefit is for me.

Also please read my previous reply so you get a better picture of my situation. I am seriously considering the TE program I just don't know how it really benefits me.

  2. Question and I am not bashing anyone as I am seriously interested in the TE program.

I am married, come here on 30 day visa exempt stamp, go to CW change it to a 12 months stamp by showing 400k+ in the bank.

Now all I have to do is 90 day reports which are done by our driver.

What is the real benefit for me to get with the TE program? The events and spas are something I don't really care about. Neither do I look for new friends.

I am just wondering what is the real benefit of the TE program compared to a marriage extension?

You will still have to leave the country once a year on TE just like on a marriage extension, correct?

I think it is just a matter of choice. Some people just don't want to deal with doing annual extensions.

You don't have to leave the country ever unless you want to if you have an extension of stay. Same for the Thai elite since you can apply for a one year extension instead of leaving.

I have a 12 months extension so I never need to leave the country besides when the total of 13 months are up.

TE visa holders still have to do 90 day reports as well to my knowledge but they are handled by the TE staff.

Mine are done by a 3rd party as well, so where is the real benefit for me to make the switch?

  4. I didn't pay a sinsod or got asked for one either. We didn't have a marriage party yet as we almost got no one to invite. A handful of friends of mine, some of hers, parents from both sides. That makes up give or take 20 people. Why invite anyone who doesn't really care about you and or you care about them? It's asian culture, I get that - but still. Luckily my wife has the same attitude towards the marriage party.

We rather save us the whole theatre and have a week in the Maldives or something along those lines. No point in inviting everyone from your driver to your food delivery guy just to 'show off'.

  5. It is possibly good for people to know that information.

Personally I think if I were in that situation I would still use a condom but condoms cannot help some forms of sex and with those there is normally a lower risk and this information could help someone regarding that.

Condoms cannot help some forms of sex? What do you mean?

The only way to infect somebody with HIV is through blood to blood contact. Oral sex and kissing cannot infect somebody. Especially the infection from female to male is not easy.

The use of condoms is the only way to prevent an infection and it is sufficient. Condoms should be used and then there is no real risk.

I don't see a reason to inform anybody about the infection if condoms are used.

    Total bullshit, sorry.

If your sexual parter has braces for example it's very easy to cause a little 'scratch' or opening and exchange blood that way.

Even if he/she doesn't have braces you might have a small opening in your mouth you don't know about and so does he/she.

    Same goes for kissing.

  6. Congrats! Just curious, how much were you smoking per day and what was the number one factor that led to your decision to quit c.t.? I am a smoker and desperately want to quit. But always find myself making excuses for another puff. I tried the patch for about a week. Didn't help. Tried e-cigs. Waste of money and raw lungs and sore throat. Any advice from you (or others) that have decided to liberate your bodies from the disgusting, costly and harmful habit would be helpful.

I smoked a good pack a day and got a pain killer addiction, thanks to the good doctors around here. I always toyed with the idea of giving up smoking as I used to wash my hands after every cig at home, out of respect to my wife.

One night I went out and got hammered with a major hangover the next day. So I staid in bed all day and decided that this is already day 1 if I just stay in bed and try to sleep - so I did.

It's been 8 days now since.

Guess it was a bit a decision of caring more about my health and the constant hand washing with was like OCD.

  7. I just had 2 root canals and 3 zirconium dental implants done.

Total price was 8,000 baht for the cast to make the implants and 108,500 for the procedure.

Very happy with the outcome. Was one of those 'beauty clinics' with branches all over Bangkok.

The whole procedure was painless and took about an hour. If anyone wants the name of the clinic please PM me.

  8. phew my cousins got 7yr overstay he will to KL on monday. hopefully they will let him back the same day on visa exempt.

They may but in my opinion they should not. After 7 yr overstay wants to reenter on visa exempt. At very least the airline should insist on flight out of Los. Most members support people trying to clear overstay. Your post has that pompous feel.

Depends on the I/O when he arrives at the airport. No one can predict it, but there is no real law why they should refuse him entry - in the end it's entirely up to the I/O if he lets him enter or not.

I would advise to get a proper visa in KL.

  9. Hi Guys,

Today it's been exactly 1 week that I had my last cigarette.

I went cold turkey as I believe all those patches and 'fading out' are just another excuse to keep smoking.

If you're serious about quitting it, you just stop - no excuses.

Anyway, so the first week is over and I feel no major difference besides that I got a bit of a cough today. Still a few cravings here and there but nothing major.

How long can I expect the cough to last?

  10. Any bets on the course that the "conversation" on this thread takes, when the mans name is released?

Agreed. It says French but that can mean a lot these days. Parents might have been immigrants and the gentlemen just happen to end up with a French passport.

Wouldn't doubt if it was one of those 'ATM Scammers' that all seem to have french papers too.

Regardless it's a shame what happened to him. No matter what nationality he might be or religion he believes in.

  11. If she doesn't report you to immigration you have nothing to worry about. Since your non-o visa is based on a thai wife and you get a divorced, your visa is basically useless and you have to leave the same day.

I might be mixing this up with an extension of stay based on thai wife, but to my knowledge, any visa related to thai wife ends with the divorce.

  12. Ok. Wow... so buying my Parkinson's meds, my friends buying brand name heart meds, others buying Quomem for stop smoking to use as Wellbutrin... we are all breaking the law? ....

Of course not. Heart meds, BP meds, Parkinsons meds etc do not require a prescription. Neither do Quomem or Wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin is the brand name for bupropion, a prescription drug that's used to treat depression.

  13. Hey,

I never had any dental work done at the BNH, but it's the hospital I use for years without issues.

Can anyone tell me about their dental department? I think I need 1-2 cavities fixed and might need an implant.

Any idea on the quality and pricing?

    Thanks

PS: I have BUPA but I don't think they cover dental.

  14. Yes, AIGS.

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far, I'll take a look at all the areas mentioned. When renting in Bangkok is it easy to find something on a few day's notice? Or should I be planning months in advance? I can make a visit in early May to have a look around if it's necessary.

    Thanks again to everyone!

You can get a condo in a day - from viewing to signing the contract. Almost standard for lower end condos.

Is that your entire budget for a month you have to live with or just your rental budget? Given the first, try the options below..

I can recommend BangkokCondoRentals, RadoEstate, BangkokHomeCondos - just add at .com at the end. The last one seems to specialise in studios and 1br places, so that might suit you. I would check out 'The Life on Sathorn Soi 10' - will set you back between 15-20k. About 5 mins to AIGS. 10mins on foot.

On Sathorn Soi Suan Plu are tons of little nice places - google 'The Lotus Bangkok Sathorn' and it's a 10 baht motorbike ride to the BTS and maybe 40-60baht to AIGS.

    10mins on a motorbike..

If you go across the river, prices go down by 1/3 if not even further. You can probably get a studio in the Ideo for 10-15k. Even further down, but 100% not walking distance and you're in Ratchada-Thapra, which will get you a Studio in 'The Life' - same building as on Sathorn for about 8k. Lumpini Place Ratchada-Thapra about the same. Commute is 20-25mins MAX.

Just giving you some directions.. I wouldn't go further out than Thapra as thats the end of the BTS line for now (to my knowledge).

Wife used to sell / rent condos for a living that's how I remember the pricing as of 8-10 months ago.

Since you're only looking for a 6 months contract you should try apartments, rather than condos. Try 9apartment .com or ddproperty .com - In those places you pay all your bills to the owner of the building. In a condo you will have to setup your own internet, cable tv and all that. Apartments are more willing to give you month to month contracts.
