  1. Agreed, the average studio completely redone, incl. water/electric in good quality with small kitchen, soem built in furniture etc. etc. etc. will cost anywhere from 400- 600K. There is so many options these days, so you can get very good results with an experienced contractor. Not Thai style, but nice and lasting. Duration depending on allowed working hours/days from 2-3 months.PF

  2. Hi there:

I had this up on the Samui Forum and got very little feedback.

Let us try the hub of all hubs....

Looking for a prof. architectural/design/general-contractor company.

Need experience and portfolio in traditional high class Thai style hotel/bungalows/restaurants/spa/pool/landscaping/complete resort design.

Any feedback or contacts via pm greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas. PF.

  3. Hi there

I am a bit tired dealing with short-term tenants. Any feedback where to advertise / offer a large luxury condo in very good central location to attract a long-term tenant. Thinking about some Falang manager of the big companies around. Rent often paid by company. Thanks for any ideas. Merry Christmas PF.

  4. This fits exactly my problem I am having for the last few weeks. On top of that, my connection drops a few times a day, usually for a few minutes. I have the 1499.-- /16MB 3BB and speed-test looks mostly good up to 18MB.

Today after several other techs stopped by during the weeks, a friendly young kid stopped by. I told him my SNR was way to low between 4-6 for good quality. He checked my phone line digitally and told me many people are having the same problem, as the line was not "good" for anything above 12MB / 999.--. I smiled and he said I show you. He called their office and downgraded me to 12 MB and restarted the router. Voila SNR up to 13, Speed 13MB and pages definitely loading faster than with the more expensive account.

I then went to their office to downgrade back to 12 MB and so far it has worked an not disconnected anymore. The tech said to wait for fiber-optics before next upgrade.

SNR value can be seen under status in most routers. Some require a special command. Just google for your router. PF.

  5. Hi there

I am looking for a good, professional design/construction company to finish a bungalow resort project near Chaweng, done approx. 50%. Includes about 35 bungalows to be finished and fitted out. Construction of 2 new swimming pools, side-buildings, large restaurant, kitchen, storage etc. etc.

The company needs to be able to deliver full design to 4/5 star standard, must show prior successful projects, have manpower to start asap. and deliver in reasonable time frame.

Also interested in opinions of readers, what their favorite high standard Samui resort is. Thank you and have a great Sunday. PF.

  6. After reading those new posts, I decided to give it a try, after years of avoiding this Shell station:

Pulled in, few bikes waiting. Pulled to the left front attendant, a young girl and was greeted with a smile. The nasty older guy, exposed and shown on various forums over the years, still working on the car side.

The sun was in my face, so could not read the meter. But was confident it was reset, as the girl pulled the handle of the meter with the usual metallic bang, that indicates the lever was reset.

Well, well....Still with a smile she pointed to the meter and wanted 240!!!! Baht All my bike takes is 160 when totally empty.

I got off the bike, looked at the meter close up, made sure everybody around, mostly Thais, listened, pointed at her and said in Thai: You are a thief! Just like everybody here. A small bike never takes 240 Baht!

Turned to the people and repeated it. Without exception everybody supported my statement, as there are plenty of warning signs in Thai and they try the same with Thais with somewhat lower amounts. She then immediately with her face down, probably had lost it and was looking for it on the fl. said: Sir 160 Baht for you. I try again in a year, maybe Shell Thai/Singpaore/Global will finally do something about this. BTW. The jet-ski scams are still going on, nothing will ever change. Just a question of wanting to live here and being able to deal with it.

Over to the Thai scam defenders.....:-) PF.

  7. Sadly this has been going on for years. I would never go to that gas station.
sad but true i was made aware of this petrol station a long time ago and i always avoid it.

Yeah, they are real crooks.sick.gif Most residents have known this for years. 4 yrs. back we filed a serious complaint with Shell USA, which handed it over to Shell Singapore, [email protected]. Eddie did a good follow up, after our complaint. The older, angry looking guy at the station is the leader and really bad. After I caught him cheating me he doused me (accidentally...;-) with half a liter of gas.

But things have never changed They put up cameras, signs and lately some loudspeakers with a continuous warning...The scam is ongoing....When we did our initial complaint we watched them cheating as many as 30 customers per hour during busy times. The main guys have been photographed and identified by Shell and.....Thai style...still work there....Amazing...Wonder what the owner says to this? Write to Shell Singapore....Maybe something comes out of it. And...Avoid this gas station, even so the location is convenient! PF.

  8. Ditto: Have an <deleted> 245 with filters needing replacing. Can't find a thing about replacements. Anybody? Appreciated.

This saga has found a good end! After more than 35 inquiries in person, by phone, by email in all main shops, all main online shops and all possible Sharp centers and mails I have finally received 1 !!! professional and very quick answer which provided even much more info than I had asked for. It was written in perfect E, friendly and professional and they even offered me a better deal on a more suitable model. Wow, this was one of the few really good moments this week ;-)

Not sure I may publish this here, if the moderators remove just pm me for any info.

Thanks Kh. Walop. You made my day.wai2.gif

  9. Dear all:

The air-purifier above is on sale in various shops right now for 15'000. I ended up with this brand, as it got the best reviews for an upper medium unit, vs. the top brands going for up to 55'000.-

This unit also has a much longer life for their 2 filters (HEPA & Carbon) than most other brands. Filter change can be VERY costly if you are buying the wrong brand.

I have tied all afternoon to find out: - Are these filters available and where?

    - What is the cost of those 2 filters?

    - Official life at average use?

I went to every shop in town, that carries them, I called Sharp Bangkok and learned there is a bunch of independent companies under the same name and got onto every number I was given.

I wrote to the main online shops and wrote them and also wrote to 3 Sharp contacts i could find.

I make it short: ZERO results......The first 2 points NOT one answer, the third one from 6 months to 10 yrs. !!!! The brochure says around 2 yrs., in some countries the span is from 1-5 yrs according to misc. websites.

These all by so called experts, call-centers, service-centers etc.

Maybe one of you out there has the same air-purifier and some answers !?

    Thanks to all. PFwai2.gif

  10. Again today, 4.12.12 Lots of people, but desk manned with 3 officers. Fast, very friendly and professional. Thank you Immigration and thank you Barry, you never rest and work every day patiently for all of us.

Certainly the service as good or better as in my home country or several others I have been living in. Probably also one of the easiest & cheapest long-term stay conditions for over 50 years old. No tax interference, not difficult to get documents. Just 800 K. in the bank, a trip to immigration and all done. Wished it was like this everywhere. PF.
