  1. Now all they have to do is get motorists to stop !

    Paint a cop! giggle.gif

... or perhaps a 'sleeping policeman' , a small hump across the road, to encourage motorists to slow down to a safer speed ? rolleyes.gif

Or they will reason speeding up and flying after hitting it will save tyre wear therefore money like no lights in the dark or monsoon downpoursfacepalm.gif

Could you not come up with something better than that comment ?

  2. I was steadily losing vision in one eye about 2 months back, and naturally was starting to get worried, My GP referred me to the ophthalmologist at RAM, which was late on a Sunday afternoon. I had the usual preliminary tests, then the first of a series of drops in my right eye.

I was soon checked in the machine they have for these things, the doctor speaking excellent English, having done post grad work at an Australian university.

Much to my relief, I was told that the cloudiness in my eye was not unusual, having had a glaucoma operation a few years back, and it could soon be fixed with a bit of laser surgery.

I was told to report to the eye ward at Sriphat Hospital Tuesday morning, and I was all done with RAM. I could see why these appointments are made in the late afternoon, as the drops dilate the eye fully, and any sunlight would have been too painful to take.

When I got to Sriphat hospital, there was the usual formality of paying first, I was escorted up to the 12th floor, went through the usual drops in the eyes every 20 minutes, before I was ushered into the operating theatre. I was amazed at the speed this was done; sit in front of the machine, looking into the works, and in a couple of minutes of red flashing lights, and it was all done! Amazing.

Between RAM and Sriphat, they certainly deliver the goods. Total cost was 4800baht,

"I was soon checked in the machine they have for these things, the doctor speaking excellent English, having done post grad work at an Australian university."
I was not aware they spoke English in Australia. I will have to listen closer next time one speaks. Ok,ok, I'm being mean.
  3. I went into the new Power Buy, at the NW corner a few weeks ago. They were actually ready to deal on prices, which seemed somewhat higher than Siam to begin with. The rest of the construction seems to involve rebuilding ICON Computer Plaza. My last peripherals were purchased a block of the main road, and I don't think that will be their permanent place. That new condo seems to be about 98% complete. There is a large parcel of land for sale straight across there, inside the moat, and I saw an old townhouse on 35 TW sell for 7.5 million in just a couple of weeks. I think that area of the moat is a better location than most of Nimman, because there are more alternate routes to get elsewhere. A trip in and out of Nimman is a beast a good portion of the day.

Curious why you have a photo of Reno as an avatar.

  4. Insulation is an issue here.

Most of the local supplied electrics have one insulated wire.

Bad luck for these guys, sorry to hear the bad news.

Probably a fair bit of incompetence involved.??

Fancy getting zapped by the higher rated lines!

I wonder what the crane driver was looking at. I imagine he was qualified, trained and insured to do the job as they all are when you ask them?

    Regards

You want it two ways. Not competent and then you say bad luck. can't have it two ways sir.

  5. Wow, NancyL, that's all you've got?

Not Nancy`s fault, because that`s about all there is in Chiang Mai.

If you enjoy dining out, there are numerous nondescript little restaurants scattered across and around the city, or there are various shopping malls for hanging out, where many people go having not much else to do, no real nightlife or adult entertainments worth mentioning, loads of old granny massage parlours and expensive spas if you like that sort of thing, otherwise can`t think of much else.

There is Nancy`s Expats club that is the main and probably the only social club in Chiang Mai, and a few other regular events on the Chiang Mai Meetup and facebook pages that mostly include specialist activities such as Yoga, meditation and strange dance rituals.

Much depends on your age. Many elderly nearing the end of their lives like Chiang Mai for it`s tranquillity and perhaps feel the city is their last grazing ground before fading away peacefully into oblivion.

The point being, it depends on age and what you enjoy doing?

"Much depends on your age. Many elderly nearing the end of their lives like Chiang Mai for it`s tranquillity and perhaps feel the city is their last grazing ground before fading away peacefully into oblivion" I must say thank you for pointing that out to us who are fading away.

  6. Peera is a great pharmacy and she stocks just about anything, but she's not the cheapest.

I know there are some members taking other medications, that they buy in bulk at a reasonable price, but I couldn't tell you where.

Maybe someone will come along soon, it's early days.

    Good luck.

So in other words you have nothing to add to this thread ? But on the bright side you added another post to your numbers.

  7. Most snakes I've seen in Thailand, I've only noticed at the last moment. The tree snake hanging down looking like a branch until it moves. Snakes in the garden that look like something dusty as it slithers off, but the only banded krait I've seen on our brick walk leading to our washing machine lept off the page. Even though I didn't know what it was at the time, I instinctively knew it poisonous.

Humans can not instinctively know a snake poisonous or not.
