Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
skatewash replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Not true if the customer has a Charles Schwab account. There are no costs associated with withdrawals in Thailand that are not fully reimbursed and the exchange rate is the US/Thailand daily rate established by MasterCard. -

If using a Charles Schwab account there are no fees to the customer that are not fully reimbursed. Also, uses the MasterCard daily exchange rate for Thailand/USA which is a decent rate. This is the way I bring money into Thailand. -
From the FAQ for the TM-30: Unable to search the notification of residence after 7 days of the check-in date. Answer - According to the policy of Immigration Bureau, the limitation of search cannot be over 7 days of the check-in date, hence, the users will not be able to search any records passed the limited date. https://tm30.immigration.go.th/TM30/Foreigner/TM30EN/FAQ.html You have 7 (seven) days from the check-in date to search for the record you entered by the policy of the Immigration Bureau as implemented in their application. The best practice is to submit the report and then immediately search for the report, and then print out a screenshot of the submitted report. They may (or may not) be working on an improvement allowing you to download a PDF file, but the above best practice currently works. On the search screen enter a From Date six days before today and a To Date of today. The search will return your report with a check-in date in that period.

In theory... since the online license is to be accepted for all purposes the physical license can be used for, the Land Transport Office should accept your showing it on the phone or a copy of the picture on your phone. Let us know how it goes.
-
Trying to remember. Seems to me I only had to register one license and then the other appeared automatically. You could try and see what happens.
-
Yes, if you have photos of the back of your license (you need to scan a qr code off the back of your license when registering with the online app). The app wouldn't care that you lost your license. You could use the license on the app whenever you previously used your physical driver's license.
-
I did this a few years ago. I don't remember needing a new Certificate of Residence at the Land Transport Office. It seemed relatively easy to get a new driver's license issued, once I had the police report. (Long story on getting the police report. Short version: if you lose your Thai driver's license outside of Phuket it is essential that you tell the Phuket police that you lost it in Phuket. Therein lies the difference between incredibly difficult and very easy. ;-) )

Yes, House ID Number is an optional field, the value for which can be found as the first number on the first page of either a blue or yellow house registration book (tabian bahn) in the form 0000-000000-0. It is not a mandatory field. There is a User's Guide which might be helpful: https://tm30.immigration.go.th/TM30/Foreigner/TM30TH/index.html

US Passport Renewal Question
skatewash replied to Felton Jarvis's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The best advice is to follow the detailed and comprehensive instructions provided by US Embassy Bangkok's website: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/adult-passport-renew/ Using those up-to-date instructions one would become aware that the details on getting the passport returned to you by mail have substantially changed (what you outline is the old procedure and no longer works). Also, one would see the current estimate for how long the process takes in total is "up to six to eight weeks." But, I do agree that the process is not particularly hard. It's step-by-step. -
Exactly correct. From the application search page itself: "แสดงข้อมูลวันที่เข้าพักย้อนหลัง 7 วันเท่านั้น / Data are shown within only 7 days of Check-in Date". From https://tm30.immigration.go.th/TM30/Foreigner/TM30TH/FAQ.html Question: Found a problem, unable to search for information on notification of residence of foreigners dating back more than 7 days. Answer. According to the policy of the Immigration Bureau, the use of the system can search for accommodation notification information dating back no more than 7 days. If conditions are specified for notification of accommodation going back more than 7 days, it cannot be searched.

The newest update worked for me. Confirmed address was correct and had approved. Added Gender to information about the owner. Added an address registration report for myself as staying at my condo. Printed out a screenshot of the successful (informed status) address report, and stapled it into my passport.

If you would read the attached pdf you would see you are incorrect on both assumptions. -
US Passport Renewal Question

Not sure why this good answer seemingly goes unnoticed. -
It is withheld, meaning it is withdrawn from your account. Having a valid Thai Tax ID registered with the account allows this withdrawal of tax on interest earned to be waived, meaning it is not withdrawn from your account. You may or may not be liable to report your interest earned in your Thai Income Tax return (depending on whether thresholds are exceeded), but it does not get automatically withdrawn from your account. This is the case for regular interest-bearing savings accounts. It is automatically withheld on fixed deposit accounts regardless of whether you have registered your Thai Tax ID with the account and cannot be waived.

I think you will find that backdating by 24 hours will be sufficient to avoid the fine, and to allow you to file a 90 day report. In future, you should make a screen shot printout of the TM-30 that you filed with the new system showing that it has been accepted and staple that paper in your passport.
-
Don't put any search criteria except for Date of Stay (from current date until end of this month). Make sure you have check-marked your address (even if it is the only address showing it must be checked). Should return all registrations including the one you did your yourself after you click on the Search button.
-
One fills out "The address to receive foreigners to stay" from your profile page (click person icon in the upper-right of the page). Then click the Profile link. Then click the Add button to the right of the "The address to receive foreigners to stay" on the middle-right side of the page. Press the Save button in the lower-right of the page. Then you go back (using the browser back button) and you will see your property listed as one of the Address(es). Click the box for your property's address.

Mailing US Passport Renewal
skatewash replied to Uth2006's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I do recommend creating an account at Thailand PostMart. It was easy to do, no issues. I didn't actually purchase anything at the site so can't confirm what payment options are available, although I suspect the usual ones: credit/debit card, bank account debit, etc. Regarding pay.gov. You actually don't need to create an account to just pay for your US passport. See Should I Create a Pay.gov Account? at https://www.pay.gov/WebHelp/HTML/create_account.html But, if you decide you want an account, see Create Your Own Account. There are two methods. I recommend the first, and don't recommend the second (id.me). I was never able to create an id.me account. The first method worked for me, don't recall any issues. -

Yes, that is the way it worked back then, but that is no longer accepted and the new procedure is as explained here (see Step 8): https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/instructions-for-ds-82-processing-by-mail-and-online-fee-payment-for-u-s-citizens-residing-in-thailand/
