Yes, quality standard for Japanese cars meet the minimum standards. No reason why a Malaysian built car would be of less quality than a Thai built car. BTW, seems to me that the CX5 is the first car where Thailand gets the full line-up.

We will deliver the printed OMs to Mazda on October 3. The OMs include both the gasoline and diesel version so I presume they will be available in Thailand. HOWEVER, at the beginning probably only gasoline version.

They are imported from Malaysia and not made in Thailand.

I for 2 enjoyed the anecdotes and tales - and generally find the discussion about torque quite useful, and relevent to my original question. I confess to not knowing a whole lot about cars, from a technical perspective. I did however wonder if the combined petrol and electrical motors of the camry hybrid would mitigage the superior torque of a diesel engine. Having driven a 2.4 petrol accord for a few weeks, and a 2.4 CRV, then I would rather the punchy torque of the forutuner.

I love my fortuner - whilst I am not an "enthusiastic" driver, I do put pedal to metal when it is (relatively) safe to do so i.e. dry conditions, open road, low traffic..... and have never found it to be lacking whether fully loaded with family or on my own..... going up hills, around normal bends, in traffic or on the motor way - only a fool however would mistake it for "sports" car in any shape or form, and if you fail to respect that it is a heavy lump then you may pay the price with life or limb if burrying it into a hard (wet) bend or not oberving some semblence of safe distances.

Incidentally - all the fortuner haters that have replied (tongue in cheek), what do you drive?

Safety - when I bought my fortuner I have a budget. At the time, I weighed the options and concluded the higher position was the winning ticket. I wasn't sure then and I'm still not sure now whether the pick-up based design can really match a passenger designed vehicle in terms of crumple zones etc. Yes of course there are situations where the high riding fortuner will be better than a saloon, but one also has to consider the liklihood of that worst case side impact scenario compared to the liklihood of other scenarios (if someone better informed would like to inform me, that would be great). Suffice it to say however that whilst safety is important, it is not the only consdideration.

It was also just brought to my attention that the C-class mercedes with promotion AMG body kit is 2.25MB. When one considers the 1.8MB price tag of the Camry, then it is not am impossible option. I just looked on the BMW website, and the 3.20i is 2.25MB also, but cannot find any details on that variant. I am still a bit hesitant to part with that much cash, but I am guessing that either of the germans would offer far superior safety, performance, and comfort ..... I get mixed reports however that both brands are plagued with problems, though I suspect that many such reports come from grey-market imports?

The nice Man was referring to Benzene Engines not Clunkers. Please note Tugboats have tremendous Diesel Torque,but aint much use as a Ski Boat. Never seen a Tuna that does 200KPH.

Anywho, in Pattaya (yeah yeah I know your talking about BKK) one can rent a 2011 City with proper commercial insurance (as well as AC) for 13k on a 12 month contract paid upfront.

I can rent one from the Honda dealer on a 5 year contract with no down payment and no interest for 8500 per month. After 5 years they give me my car as a present. good deal I guess...

I took my car in this weekend and they took 4 hours for a regular maintenance...(pre-booked and everything). Do you got any pictures of where they might have repaired? I will check tonight if they have been fiddling with it.

My boss has a Camry hybrid (2013) and I am actually not really impressed with the ride quality. The suspension feels a bit hard and imo is less comfortable than previous camrys.

I think the Nissan Teana offers a better ride. I haven't driven the new accord yet.

Tokio Marine paid for mine also...classified as an accident. Repair was done at Mitsu Hua Mark, very professional.

Normally if you stay in your own province you don't have to fill in the brown book. It says it in Thai in the brown book if I remember correctly

FYI, I live in Bangkok, but i have Kalasin plates as I bought my car at Mitsubishi Kalasin. I drove all over Thailand with red plates and wasn't fined even once.

I did fill in the brown book for EVERY single trip and never drove after 8 PM.

Red plates = don't drive after 6 PM, but generally they seem to accept 7 to 8 PM as people are still getting back from work.

Red plates = log every trip in the brown book when going out of your province (Chonburi). Within Chonburi you should be fine.

Red plates = if you want to drive at night you have to get special approval from the DMV to do so. You need to get approval for EVERY trip.
