As opposed to using your local PO?  Probably so, and I'd opt for your " main post centre near there."

I have a small local PO near our house but have noticed in the past that the larger PO sends a pickup to pick up the outgoing mail, so if I want something to go a tad faster, I head to the larger PO, or all the way down to the branch at Future Park.

Thanks Mac, thats what I did. Package already arrived destination country -

It was difficult to get anybody to comprehend that I wanted to post at the last P.O. before the plane, to ensure least time - my 'what is the last P.O. before the plane?' was responded to more often than not, with 'what is your tracking number, sir?'

I presume Suvannabhumi Mail Centre - but I don't know if they offer counter service. Anybody know, for next time?

The Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professional Talent, which passed the legislative floor, eases Taiwan's regulations pertaining to visas, work permits, taxes, insurance, pension and residency for foreign professionals and their families.

The Act extends work and residence permits for foreign white-collar professionals from the current maximum of 3 years to 5.

It also removes the requirement that such workers must remain in Taiwan for 183 days per year to maintain their status.

In addition, it allows foreign nationals to enter Taiwan on a job-seeking visa that will be valid for 6 months instead of the current 3.

Under the revised Act, an Employment Gold Card that includes a work permit, residence visa, alien residency permit and re-entry permit will be introduced for foreign professionals.

The "4-in-1 card" makes it easier for foreign nationals to change jobs in Taiwan because they will no longer be dependent on their employer to apply for a work permit.

I have no less than 3 Thai medals (none of them parachute wings!) that were awarded to me over the years in thanks for my volunteer police/translation work in Phuket.

On one occasion many years ago, I found myself in the Pattaya Courthouse on a charge of ... er ... doing something that I did not do.

The lazy (for indeed he was) police guy in charge of the Court did not appreciate when I pointed to one of the medals on his uniform and said in Thai "Hey, I've got one of those".

Sometimes, it is better not to speak the truth

    When do you get out?

When I first arrived I a few years ago I thought the teachers were in the Navy!! Yup after some checking they were wearing surplus US Navy tan uniforms and even some of the ribbons were actually US campaign ribbons!!! I was told that the ribbons were for achievement in the educational field......??????

    "achievement in the educational field"

Could only be 'in anticipation of!'

  5. I hear these stories alot..women being harassed at work place..there's something terribly wrong with the work place ethics here..knowing very well the women are married the old farts have to make a move on them..the karoake bar small wife & the University gik or whatever it's called is just not enough..they've to destroy perfectly happy families as well..but what pisses me off is that women don't react in the right way..they should be able to stand up to their superiors in such situations..a line should be drawn & it shouldn't be crossed..

Consider how male dominated Thailand is and also how thais bow down to authority almost like a natural reflex.

Keep boy scout uniforms out of this, thanks.

  6. Mate, something similar happened to my wife. But you gotta be cool. Me and my wife laugh about it, and indeed I'm a little proud that my wife, now of 35 years, still gets to turn heads. But I know for a fact that my wife would never let some creepy Thai guy near her. She's got too much class. Respect your wife, have a laugh about this with her and don't let it get you down. Cheers!

You PHFALANG! Chance you win 0.000000000000000000000000000000000001%!

Trust the missers, don't go off half cucumbered -

But keep an eye on it.

  7. Change locks immediately. Put signs on door (so all the neighbours can see) barring her. Move. Get away, she will do anything she can to try to keep you thru guilt. Once she knows you are gone she should smarten up.

If she doffs herself, that is her problem; you can't be held responsible.

I had one once - I found about 20 stab marks with carving knife in the bed - after we split she got into my apartment while I was away, stole all correspondence with a previous g/f - which had ended long before. She just became preoccupied with that g/f. Ended up having to pay to get rid of her.

    Run, Forrest,

'If she doffs herself, that is her problem, you cant be held responsible'......is very true..in theory, wont stop him feeling guilty for the rest of his life though will it ? If you kept correspondence with a previous g/f in the house, I'd say it was you that was preoccupied with her tbh mate..........

No, it was just there, in the filing cabinet with all my other letters etc - never referred to - just no reason to throw it out.

She did well to find it - & I would have too.

  9. Get rid of 90-day reporting. Complete waste of a day.

I'd for sure too want to get rid of it, but, the Thai Immigration Police wants to keep track of you, meaning have your present address in Thailand, and, alas, I doubt it very much all the Farangs staying here, especially the ones the Police would like to keep a discrete eye on, would systematically go to the Immigration Office to have any/every change of address being registered there. So, IMO, the 90-day reporting will remain, because of some of us, Farangs', wrong attitude, not because the Thais are great fans of paperwork (what they surely are though)...

Last year one of the ministers proposed to start microchipping the foreigners, I guess they will do away with the 90 day report once that begins

    Woof!

Well that will make it easier - just read chip, print post sticker, stick onto body bag with C.O.D., body snatchers can throw it off at the post office!
