  1. I reckon I got about 9km/L today but it was hard work. I really need some advice as taking it to the garage will, I suspect, just meet with blank faces.

Assuming you have no visible fuel leaks?

I would say that your problem lies with the fuel pump , it could be mis timed, and easy for a dealer to check and calibrate

Are you getting any exxessive black smoke from the exhaust? especially when revved hard?

Engine timing could also be a factor and again can easily be checked

Turbo could be a likely suspect also.

Lastly injectors could need recalibrating, but that would be my outside bet

  2. Thanks Tilapia.

I am looking at it more a a hobby for now but wanting to make money from it as well.

It is not crucial that I make money from the fish, but I really want to have a go, don't mind spending a few bob to get it started. I believe that at the moment both ponds have plaa ninn and plaa duk, and both have massive water fountains which look great, and I assume aid in aeration?

I will probably do as you say with the green algae method, I believe that this is how it currently operating.

I can't wait to start having fun.

    Thanks to a great thread.

  3. I have just bought some land and it has two good sized ponds on it, both hold Plaa nin.

I read earlier in the thread about how little profit that fish generate, but surely if you don't buy food, then the fish grow naturally, perhaps they take more time to get to marketable size but then its all profit isn't it? Assuming that the fish will spawn themselves and no need to buy fingerlings?

    Am I missing something here?

And how long doe's it take for the plaa nin to reach marketable size with feed and how long without feed?

BTW also we have a chicken farm, broilers, that hold 12000 chickens, we feed them for 45 days and then they are off to the processing plant, we have plenty of power feed pellets that I could feed the fish, would this be a good idea?

Also I am not in Thailand just yet, but I will be leaving UK in 5 weeks time to start this new venture.

Currently the chickens are being looked after by my very experienced Thai in laws.

I don;t think they know much about fish though.

  4. Weight restrictions for hand luggage are typically 7 to 8 kilos depending on the airline.

Not sure that they would allow the item as hand luggage ref battery.

Not long now mate till you make the move, see you when you get here

    I can't wait Mac,

I will need to do a visa run after 90 days, and thought that a trip to yours would be great, Early November ok?

  5. I am assuming that you all aware that there will be 30% retention for 1 year if the amount transferred exceeds the equivalent of US20,000.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

    Thankyou Mobi,

Any chance of providing a link, I am in the process of organising the sending of £30,000 around 2 mill baht.

There's no link - it's a new rule, introduced some time ago to prevent the Baht appreciating.

The only way round it is to send the money in small tranches - each under the equivalent of 20K US Dollars. I never sent more than 8K GBP at one time to be on the safe side. You can send as many individual transfers as you like, although I would restrict them to one per day to be on the safe side. It costs a bit on transfer fees, but better than letting them get their hands on 30% of your money for one year, and then the hassle of trying to recover it.

    Thanks for the info Mobi,

    Your help has been appreciated

  6. Me and My Thai missus are leaving the UK, she has a British passport now.

We are moving back to her village in Phetchabun.

What should I bring from the UK that I can't buy in Phetchabun or surrounding places.?

A few I can think of

Egg poacher, Proper cutlrey, not that bendy thai stuff. Proper China plates.

    Can anybody think of more?

  8. A Thai woman married to a foreigner with the marriage registered in Thailand may not be able to own land in Thailand. Check this out if land ownership is a concern.

Wrong, it makes no difference if married to a falang or not, I know, I have done it.

That law was changed about 10 years ago

  9. I have seen recent threads on here regarding UBC and the changing of sports packages etc.

I am moving to Thailand in September and can't survive without my Footy and F1.

    My questions are.

Do I need UBC to be able to view the above, are there alternatives? ( I will be in rural Thailand, no ADSL etc)

How long does it take from ordering a new system to it being installed?

Is there a basic cost to pay including sattelite dish reciever and installation and how much is it?

Can I pay for a years subscription up front and what package would I need.

    Thanks people.

  10. Thanks for the links.

However as I intend to transfer the money from my UK acoount to my wifes THAI account,

I was thinking on the lines of..... because a Thai national is effectively accepting the money then the 30% hold back (if it exists at all ) will be exluded on the basis that she is Thai?

I could always transfer the money from my UK account to my Thai wifes UK account and have her transfer it to her Bangkok bank account in LOS.??

  11. Hi people,

How much money can I transfer to my thai wifes bank account in LOS.

I heard that there was a maximum amount that you could transfer as not to attract a 30% holding by the government.

I am unsure if this is still the case?

I want to transfer £30,000.00 aprrox 2 million baht from my UK account to purchase some land.

    thanks

    :o

    Thanks numberplate !!!!!

You know nothing about me, Please keep your childish actions to yourself unless of course you can offer good advice? :D

    Anyone else?

  12. What about Phitsanaluk or Phetchabun.?

It can get very cool in the mountains there, there is a place known locally as "little switzerland" which is very nice. Not many expats there...... but there is some beautiful scenery and plenty of cool breezes.

Khao Khor is the main mountain range running from P, luk through Phetch.

  13. Great thread mac,

You know I always ask you these questions every time we meet.

Oh and BTW, get that pot of stew going, I will be there in September. :o

  14. I don't know about Chang Mai, but there are plenty of people in other areas of Thailand that live very comfortably on less money than 35k per month, I guess it depends on your lifestyle.

But you could always work until (god forbid) you have a heart attack, stroke or anything else, Me I would get there now, buy a couple of hammocks, relax, chill out, lay back, and life could be one long holiday.

It really doe's depend on what you want to do.

Good luck in what ever you decide.

  15. [ My wife is from Srisaket (in Petchebun)

Hmmmmm....... Srisaket is near Surin, Isaan area of Thailand, nowhere near Phetchabun :o

Has your wife been to this area in Phetchabun?

Is Rawings north East south west of Phetchabun city centre?

I have never heard of Rawings????

I will ask the missus shortly, see if she can throw any light on it.

Our land is roadside with electric and water ,tarmac road It is not a farm but I can't see the relevance to the price of land it doesn't matter if it is farmland aslong as you have electricity and water nearby prefferably on a tarmac road, also a chanote Title deed,

There is lots of land for sale around 70,000 baht per rai similar to ours all over Phetchabun, I would come and have a look for yourself and forget the extortionate prices you have been quoted so far.

Who is selling the land are they friends of your wifes?
