  1. What's the likelihood of Mr. T waking up one morning and slamming shut what seems to be a large loophole?

Any help and/or informed opinion would be most welcome. Thanks.

I reckon that there is a strong possibility of this, and I for one would not feel comfortable sinking money in this way. IMO it is dangerous to circumvent the law, in this way. There are other options which you will be probably aware of .

  2. Thankyou for your help everyone,

I have stayed at cookie on many occassions but having phoned them last week they informed me that they no longer have beach bungalows and are currently building a hotel on the beach !!! :o

So I was thinking on staying at 15 palms basically next door to Cookie, but I cannot remember the quality of the rooms, What i am after is something like cookie, i,e brick beach hut, air con would be useful but not a must, clean and comfortable, there will be 3 partys me the missus 2 kids and the mother in law, and an English/Thai couple who haven't been to Koh chang before. So either 3 rooms on the beach at White Sand, or a suite and a room, I guess we are looking to spend upto 2000 bht per couple,

Sorry I didn't mention this earlier,

also if anyone wants a beer, we are hoping to be there round about the 13th of November for about 3/4 nights.

Once again thanks for your help.

  3. Hi I haven't been to koh chang for 2 years now, and we plan to visit early in November,

My question is for people who have visited recently.

Do you think that it is wise to pre-book accomadation?

Since the Tsunami I have been told that Koh Chang is very busy as people tend to be finding the Island safer and unspoilt.

    Is this the case?

  4. just need some good solid advise,  my wife wants to come to england only for 8 weeks , on the visa form it says about my wifes employment . my wife does not work , i support her. but a friend said that she should say she is at work this looks better for a visa, but i think telling the truth is a better option, does anyone think differant, could do with a few facts  thanxs.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tell the truth,

DO NOT be tempted with anything else

  5. Is there any other advice, that would be useful to know?

I am pretty sure that Manchester Airport don't do the screening, But Humberside, Leeds/Bradford definately don't.

I think it's just easier to have it done here, later. I have heard of cases where the immigration at Heathrow will insist that she has an x-ray, even though she has a clean bill of health from Thailand. Doctors letter etc.

  6. Off to LOS in October/November - Best direct price from UK - BKK I have seen is £475 inc TAX ect

    Anyone seen any better ?

MAN- BKK via doha, with QATAR has cost me £405.00 inclusive

6TH NOV- 4TH DEC. Never flown this airline before, but according to Skytrax they are a 5 star airline, and the stop over in both directions, is about 1 hour, I,m sure they also fly LHR for the southereners here.

I booked with http://www.thg.co.uk/index_holidays_flights.htm hope this helps

Call them for the best prices

  7. If, in the future, we want to go back to the UK for a holiday - not settlement - and we're intending to get married whilst back there, do we have to tell The Embassy about our intentions?

I am in agreement with the above posters. If you are legally married in Thailand, I.E. Marriage registered at Amphur, then you are legally married for UK purposes.

If you were indending a holiday in the UK., then you would apply for a visit visa.

I think that you would be allowed to register your marriage in the UK (on a visit visa), but there is no benefit whatsoever in doing so.

So there is nothing to tell the Embassy, just apply for your visit visa.

    good luck

  8. how long is it to stay in Thailand before you are called a national?

To become a Thai National................. errrrrmmmm,

IMO this will be nearly impossible, The rules state

Aliens who wish to apply for Thai nationality under the Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (A.D. 1965) must be permanent residence holders for 5 continuous years, have reached the age of 45, and be able to speak and understand Thai. An exception may be made to this rule if there is reasonable cause, such as marrying a Thai and having children born in Thailand or having studied in a local university/college as an undergraduate.

And once you have fulfilled the above, there is no guarantee that they will grant you citizenship. These are merely the requirements, there are many wealthy chinese in the queue first

    Regards

  9. I am back in the UK now whilst waiting for my wifes Visa to drag it's way through the 1000+ of Beurocratic in-trays at the Embassy. I'm therefore calling her from the UK almost everyday and i am using JoyTelecom (via access number) which is costing 8p per minute. Has anybody got details of phone companies who are cheaper than this? I think 8p per minute is reasonable but i have heard there is some doing it at 1p per minute

    Cheers

    Mr BJ

  10. The NEE NAR,S  or your local magistrates court

    Will have a copy

Please clarify what "NEE NAR,S" is. At this stage I just need to establish whether a spent conviction would stop me from getting a retirement visa.

It really depends on what the conviction was for, and the sentence recieved.

And then i would guess that the Thai authorities would be in a position to make an informed decision.

    NEE NAR'S = Police :o
