  1. Hi people,

Right my mate brought his Thai girlfriend over to the Uk about a year ago on a fiancee visa, she stayed for about 4 months and returned back to Thailand because they were'nt ready to get married etc etc. He has visited her many many times over the last year or so. He just got back yesterday from Thailand and told me that he is sorting a settlement visa (2years) for her to come over and stay in the Uk.

Am I correct in thinking that u have to be married to get a settelment visa?

He has told some people that he is'nt married to her and can get this settlement visa no problem at all and she can stay for 2 years in the Uk and work.

Maybe he doesn't want people to know he is married, in case she up's and off's

She must be married to get a settlement visa for 2 years, at least in this instance

  2. Hi, I would be very grateful for some helpful advice please.

I live in the UK with my Thai wife.

She is here on a 2 year settlement visa.

Visa was granted 9th June 2003 and expires 9th June 2005.

My wife arrived in the UK 19th July 2003.

Her ILR has just been refused on the grounds that the Secretary of State is not satisfied she has completed 2 years in the UK.

Before I completed the application I phoned Croydon and they said apply a month before the visa runs out.

Do they now expect her to apply 1 month before 19th July 2005? That would be after her visa expires!

The refusal says that she has no right of appeal.

Does that mean we kiss goodbye to the £335 application fee? I will be very p1ssed off if that is the case!

Can anyone advise as to what options my wife has regards reapplying and the application fee.

    Thanks in advance, Andy.

    Scouser, are you reading?

Sounds to me that she has been refused purely on admistration rather than any other reason. She can apply for the ILR aprox 1 month before this is due.

Seems to me that if that had occured she could be in breach of her current visa and therefor technically not here legally.

I would suggest that you write to Croydon explaining the situation and they may help you with the fee, but don't count on it

  3. "Hon bor" - are you hot? Which goes down well with the Isaan girls you meet in most bars: "Falang poot Isaan!"

Speaking Isaan really does make them happy and a little homesick. Same with most of the taxi drivers in Bangkok. I got one driver who refused to take the whole fare - just because I asked him in Isaarn where he was from and I knew the little village well, so we had a really good old chat about how Bangkok sucks!

    1. khot aroi. = โคตรอร่อย (โคตร is an impolite word, should be avoided to use, except talk to very close friends)

    2. roi jung hoo = ร่อยจั่งฮู้ , หร้อยจั่งฮู้ (southern diarect) = อร่อยจังเลย

แซบบ่ = Is it delicious ? บ่ means no or can be used as a question word. บ่แซบ = not delicious.

    QUOTE

Does anyone else know of anymore?

ngan ngan (งั้น ๆ) = choei choei (เฉย ๆ) means not good and not bad.

พอกินได้ = just okay ( sometimes Thais say พอแดกได้ ,แดก is an impolite word mean eat.)

    Thanks for that K.Yoot.

Actually I use "koht aroi" sometimes to those Thais who come up to me in a restaurant saying, "aroi mai" in a stupid tone, as if to say, "I wonder if the farang can understand? More polite than saying "<deleted> off".

Even if I say this to well-to-do Thais, they laugh. Are they offended do you think when a farang uses words like this?

    2. roi jung hoo = ร่อยจั่งฮู้ , หร้อยจั่งฮู้ (southern diarect) = อร่อยจังเลย

I love this saying, due to the famous song using it. Also it expresses how good it is with the tone.

พอแดกได้ , I have never heard this, I will listen out for it, or maybe try to use it to see the response.

I was cracked down under the chair as I read yours. It sounds really sweet and funny when Farang said like that. Can imagine hehehee. Never seen anyone. If I saw I would laugh alot but with happy that you guys can use thai REALLY GOOD !!!!!

I love to hear this 'Khot aroi' next time I shall use this word too. :D

I mentioned "khot aroi" to my wife...... she first demanded to know who had told me this... then made me promise not to use the phrase... :o

    totster :D

    Try ....................Aroi de la

    so i am told :D

  4. Hi Slimsam,

If your g/f were to apply for another settlement visa, the visa officer may deduce that her relationship with you is just a front to enable her to remain in the UK. On the other hand, there is no reason why she shouldn't get the visa if you can substantiate your relationship. Alternatively, if she can stick it out for another 7 years without being caught then she will allowed to remain in the UK anyway, without having to leave.

    Scouse.

    Correct ,

If it is possible to stick it out, then this really has to be considered.

IMO(the overstay) will be frowned upon at bkk.

But nethertheless it shouldn't be a real problem, just make sure that you don't lie.

Get as many bills etc in joint names going back as far as you can, also joint bank account would be good. Joint mortgage/rent book. There are many other things that you both will need,

But also get some information from an immigration lawyer in the UK. You can normally find that you get 1/2 an hour free, and could put your mind at rest

  5. National Insurance number is benefit or work enabled. They would not issue one until my wife had a job. She took 1 year to get one, but was able to work based on temporary number. Could not get benefit until she had number, but money was backdated.

Since April 05 Temporary NINO'S have been scraped,

You are entitled to a NINO if you require 1.

The law states "If you are actively seeking work you have a right to a NINO"

There are other examples of why a person can request a NINO without the need to be seeking work,i,e benefits etc.

Don't be fobbed off by the receptionist at your local DWP,

You request an interview for your wife at there earliest conveniance because she is actively seeking employment.

  6. hello sport fans.............hope everyone is okay...

Im getting married in Thailand in June and need my docs stamping by the British embassy. I know its first come first serve, so what time should I get there? 4am, 6am, 9am, 12pm?

I know the docs then need translating so I guess thats easy enough.

Next trick is the MFA, is that also first come first serve? Again if so, what time does one recommend I get there?

Whole situation.......is it easy enough? :o

    Thanks for the help...

    JT

MMMmmm I take it by Docs Stamping you mean

    "Affirmation of freedom to marry"

this form can be downloaded from the fco website.

From memory you must have this typed out and then someone will stamp it for you for a modest fee at wireless rd.

I seem to remember that they have introduced times for this service, the wise thing to do would be to e,mail them . They are very helpful

  7. hi agian everyone

firstly i would like to say very well done big spuds,i wish you all the best.

    i have a few question's to ask

hopefully big spuds and the scouser have the answer's ,and any one else who can help will be greatfull welcome

    well here it goes ,

1,  big spuds you say your gf had short interview ,what was the question's they asked here?

2,what is the waiting time now for settlement visa to uk?

3,can i send visa application from the uk?

4,will i have to enclose the visa fee?

question 3&4 are for a friend he thinks you can ,iam not so sure

scouser my wife got turned down on her settlement visa (because i f up with my bank account's) what do you think about her trying for a holiday visa?or should i we wait for 3 month's (giving me 6 month's good bank statement's) ?

we tried for 2 holiday visa both a no

and one settlement visa agian a no

i fill down and my wife is not happy as well,i just got back from pattya where we had a brilliant month together, but would of being better if she came back with me,she has gone back to her mum's now ,and me back to work, and lonelly night's.so any help would cheer us both up.

everyone keep up the good work

    Q3 yes

Q4 no, the application fee can be paid on the date of the interview

The letter she recieved from the embassy will tell you why she wasn't granted the visa.

It might be useful for us to know the actual reasons for refusal in order to advise you properly

    regards M/pants

  8. i think i have seen you reply to someone else but correct me if i am wrong,

when we marry she applies to stay before the 6 month visa is over, if she stays over the 6 months this is ok as long as we have applied!

This is correct assuming that your are bringing your girlfriend over on a fiancee visa, a vv forget it, but i guess you already new that.

A NINO can be applied for at your local DWP formerley known as the social security office. It entails your wife going to see them for a little interview where they will need your NINO and she will have to produce passport and some other form of I.D to confirm her address.

    regards

  9. Would an overstay in the UK on a previous VISA (3 month) effect the application for a spouse settlement visa ?

(Assuming that all other conditions were met)

If anyone has any experience of this then I would be pleased to hear.

Well that would depend on the length of overstay. You also point out that the visa was for 3 months . There isn't a 3 month visitor visa that i am aware of , only a 6 month visa, But it has been known for the British Embassy to stipulate that it would be better for her to return after 3 months and to sign a paper to this effect.

If this is the case then it can't be used against her (legally) and all should be well when applying for another visa.

But please clarify the length of overstay and the reason

  10. it's me again! i'm visiting my TGFs home town in petchaboon in a couple of weeks and want to see some cool stuff, like the moutains in Khao Kho. I see adds for the

Imperial Phukaew Hill Resort but that's a little spendy for a Khie Nieow like myself.

Can anyone recommend a nice place in the mountains for about 500 bhat?

Also, any cool things to do or see?

    thanks, steve

The Burapa hotel in the city centre is good, about 400 baht per night, night club in the hotel and snooker room, not far from the mountains, but it depends on if you intend staying near your tgf,s or not. Which village is she from?

  11. Keep spreading the mozzie info, it'll keep the riffraff out!

I recommend Cookie Bungalows right on White Sand Beach under the trees.

1000 a night, a/c and cable tv for the hard of thinking. Has a very good restaurant, open sides & wood floor where you can eat in or they will bring the menu and food to your bungalow where you can eat on the veranda with your TG. Nice for brekkie when you don't want to wake up fast and nice for intimate dinner before beddie-bye.

Shops and internet across the road. Couple of decent bars within a few yards either direction, one bar had a band that played Stones and Doors covers which I, as an old fart, like.

Yes agree with that johnnyk btw, i think the bar with the stones is called "oodies bar" they do fantastic steaks, i would definately go to cookie , just take some mozzy repelant and you will be fine :o
