  1. There are plans afoot to build a large new Shopping Centre there like Terminal 21 in BKK.

There was a sign there saying that awhile back and I did read in that Bangkok paper recently that the Terminal 21 folks are coming to Pattaya.
I believe the land is owned by PPD, although if their success in other development attempts is anything to go by, they might want to stick to being landlords and let other proffesionals do the operation and construction, like L&H.

I can ask the owner of Fairtex. He owns quite a bit of land in that area so probably knows what it's going to be.

  2. Plain tap water works just fine, free and everywhere.

No it doesn't. It's filled with minerals, organic matter, sand, and dirt. All that shitz will eventually clog up the water pump and hose lines and spout heads and will severely reduce their efficiency or they will become blocked altogether. Then you can either leave it like that or face a repair bill. Also, that sand and mineral mixture you're spraying on your windshield and then rubbing in with your wipers will scratch your windshield and reduce the life of your wiper blades.

You think there is more dirt and sand in tap water than there is in rain water or in the air? Judging by the colour of my car after rain, I dont think so.

The jets may become clogged, but a poke with a needle will sort that out. I wonder how many centuries it would take for the pipes and pump to become clogged at the rate of one reservoir-full of water every few months?

I never said to use rain water, I advised using [bottled] distilled water...the same stuff one puts in batteries. What if the obstruction is somewhere in the lines and not at the Jets? And do you have a home filter system...do you have any idea how filthy the Pattaya tap [sewer?] water is?

  3. This may be the first time i have agreed with Mikey Huckelberry, I think Barak is pretending to be a christian as do many in elected positions, if they delared their atheism they would be unelectable in goofy america. Obama is way too smart to be christian.

I agree. It would be so funny if when his second term ends, he came out and said "Haha...there is no god...fooled all you Suckas!"

Why not just go ahead and do it now? He can't run again; why bother keeping up the stale appearances? ('Not like anybody with a brain cell to spare was ever fooled by his act anyway. And as for the rest; well, they're already busy donning their bibs for the next liberal [ahem] dosing, or maybe that should be dousing, of snake oil.)

Huckabee may have thought he'd learned a few campaign lessons from is last go-around, but though he's correct about Obama, and he gets a few points for not bowing to the PC Nazis, that's all still common knowledge and doesn't make him a contender.

He's still got a year or so in office and may want to get a few more things done and coming out as an atheist in a Christian State like America would doom any such endeavors.

  5. Can anyone help me???. most weekends i see cars traveling around Pattaya and surrounding areas covered in what looks to like advertising stickers, car numbers, etc etc, is this some kind of treasure hunt competition? does anyone know what it is or have contact details as would like to join in for a change for the family to the beach. we have seen them this morning near silver lake area and Pong, many many cars

Generally these are rally car clubs...generally associated with a particular brand. However, they can also be affiliated with work, school, or other social groups. Thais love to do things in groups and go all out putting stickers and numbers on their cars and traveling around the country. The particular car model clubs are open to any owner of that modern obviously, to join with the others one must be affiliated with the group.

I'm just going by what others have reported...even wives of Brits have a heck of a time getting a visit visa and this guy is only a father/FIL. In the eye's of the embassy, these may not be sufficient proof of intent to return to Thailand. I'm sure the officers have heard it all and are a pretty jaded lot.

An inherent problem with TV is that of what some people seemingly report.

For example, John Smith reports that Thai FIL has been refused a visit visa because of X, Y and Z. But, on closer inspection FIL has been refused a visit visa on completely unrelated matters of A, B and C.

A lot of refusals are reported by newcomers to the site who thought they knew better but were inadequately prepared by way of poor prior investigation.

I have a lot of time for posters like the OP who have come here for pre-application advice and I stand by my original statement that the FIL owning his own business and some smallholdings is as good a reason as any to corroborate reasons to return. I just don't buy in to your mantra of the OP's FIL's personal circumstance describing just about everyone in Issan and the ECOs having heard it all before. Sorry, but that's nonsense.

Notwithstanding, all other aspects of the application will require to be bolted down so that FIL's application doesn't fall short elsewhere.

I can see nothing in the OP's posts that would suggest a refusal on face value.

I guess he's all set then so better get online and fill out the application, because it's a 13 page beast of an application, pay his 138 dollars, and set up the appt at the Trendy building for the FIL. Good luck to him ☺

  8. Don't blame the OP for dropping off interest in this thread with all the rubbish posted. He asked for any assistance with his friends application. Yes some myself included have suggested a little more time and maybe one more visit to Thailand . That's if he can get time off work. Don't know why some replies have been bit over the top

Probably should have kept mum about the 28k per month...that makes allot of us jealous ?

If he had just said he met a girl in Thailand during a vacation and wanted tips on a visa application for her to visit him in the UK I'm sure he would have got a different reaction.

  9. Again, his extension is no longer valid. It expired with the resignation from the job. However that is not visible for immigration as WP and Extension are not linked.

It is a calculable risk to take, as OP is already in overstay. I'd not draw further attention by doing a visa run.

To lessen any potential overstay fines, maybe just go to Singapore immediately and fly back in with a 30 day stamp. Then, if the overstay is picked up, the fine will be less than staying for another month.
  10. As others have said in related threads, the main criteria applicants are judged on for this visa type is if they will in fact return to Thailand. From what I see, your documents show little to no evidence of this. In fact, just the opposite...the embassy may conclude the father intends to, or might decide to, stay with his daughter in the UK.

UK visa applications are submitted to an office in the Trendy Building, Sukhumvit 13 in Bangkok.

I should have made clear that the farther in-law has a small business in Thailand and some farms. he also has a wife and some grandchildren that they look after, hence the reason why my mother-in-law wont travel.

That describes just about everyone in Issan and are hardly reasons to return (many people reside/work overseas with family or farms back in the home country). If the embassy grants a visa on this basis let us know as others will be interested.
OMGImInPattaya, you originally stated - quite rightly - that it appeared that the OP's father-in-law was lacking reasons to return. The OP subsequently provides reasons to return and you immediately pooh-pooh it.

Owning a business and some smallholdings in LOS is as good as any reason to return. Whether it describes most of the population of Issan is neither here nor there.

The OP's FIL will need to lay it on thick, i.e. exactly what he owns, his income from his business, his responsibilities, staff numbers, to name but a few. A few photos of the business and smallholdings wouldn't go amiss either.

I much prefer these posts whereby the OP is looking for advice prior to submitting an application rather than coming along after a refusal.

All the op added was that the FIL has a wife, some grand kids, some sorta small business, and some farmland...and that the trip was being financed by others. I'm not putting anyone down but like I said, that describes an awefully lot of people in Thailand.

If that's all he's got for the application then that's all he's got and should submit it and see where the chips fall. It's a near impossible thing to prove a negative (that pappy will not stay in the UK) but unfortunately that's what all applicants have to try to show.

  11. Maybe immigration know her better than you do.

Remember they have access to huge databases

what can i say, cry all you want, the answer is no.

That would be interesting wouldn't it...her name might have come across their desk before with other beaus with monthly support being given. However, due to privacy rules, they're not allowed to tell these Romeos the real scoop on their little women.

  12. Thanks MadMac

I am definitely going to Laos on Sunday to get a tourist visa (as I'm just going to be traveling with my mom for the next month, returning to my country December 15th). My worry is that I will be charged overstay and denied entry back into Thailand whilst I'm in Laos. Is this a possibility? It would be really bad as my mom is arriving on Wednesday morning! One person suggested I fly to Laos as there is less chance of being checked, but direct flights are pricey!

    Thanks again

You'll have to fly out of Thailand anyway because you'll need a termination

letter from your employer to submit to the immigration if you leave the country

    by land.

Ok I finally understand! Sorry, as I said I've been in a bit of a spin worrying about this and have not been thinking clearly! New plan is this - I will fly to Singapore (flights are much cheaper than to Laos) on 2 November (the day my visa expires). I will return the next day on the 30 day free tourist visa, which I will extend in December allowing me to stay till my flight home on 15 December. Do you see any problems arising with this?

My boyfriend of 2 years is Thai and my life is here, so I am planning to come back in February next year and wanted to find a new job, will getting a work permit be an issue in the future after this stupid mistake? I really feel like a wally, but i am unable to fix my mistake now!

Thanks so much for all your help!

You could even do the "airport" visa run if going to Singapore...go and return on the same day and save on hotel. The Singapore airport is a great place to hang out for a few hours. Also, you need to get your terms right, when you return, you will receive a 30-day visa exempt entry stamp (unless you qualify for and get a visa on arrival).

  13. Thanks Bob,

You make some valid points. I should have made clear that the farther in-law has a small business in Thailand and some farms. he also has a wife and some grandchildren that they look after, hence the reason why my mother-in-law wont travel.

As for the funds for the trip this will be coming from my wife, who works full time in the UK. Myself I work full time in the UK and from savings. These sources of money will be sent to the embassy with the visa application (Wage slips, savings, bank statement ect)

    Thanks again for your help.

  15. No matter how many people weren't shot dead on that day; nine dead students is nine too many!

    America's Top Killing Machine

Gun deaths are poised to surpass automobile deaths in the United States this year.

Car crashes killed 33,561 people in 2012, the most recent year for which data is available, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Firearms killed 32,251 people in the United States in 2011, the most recent year for which the Centers for Disease Control has data.

But this year gun deaths are expected to surpass car deaths. That's according to a Center for American Progress report, which cites CDC data that shows guns will kill more Americans under 25 than cars in 2015. Already more than a quarter of the teenagers15 years old and upwho die of injuries in the United States are killed in gun-related incidents, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Before anyone else points it out; most of those deaths were suicides or accidental, as if that makes them ok!

But, according to FBI data, in 2012, the latest year for which I can find figures, out of 12,765 murder victims in the USA 8,855 were murdered by firearms. That's an average of over 24 gun homicides per day!

So what's that, an average of one homicide in each state every other day...I think as a nation of over 300 million, the United States can absorb that attrition rate.
  16. its not easy to get anybody in to the uk....took my 3 attempts to get my wife over to the uk and we had lived together for years in thailand...got 3 friends here in the jungle who have given up with the ideas of getting their wives to the uk....they all have good jobs back in the UK , houses paid for, money in the bank etc and they have all been turned down in the last couple of years....whilst in the UK Myself and wife and we were both working full time tried to bring my 15 step son to the uk for a months holiday during the school holiday and he was turned down saying they ( the uk Embassy) feared for his safty whilst he would be in the UK....

I found this comment and others about the difficulty of getting Thai wives to the UK interesting. Americans may not be able to get tourist visas for sex-workers but if one is married, if the basic paperwork is in order, a visa for travel or settlement will always be granted.
