  1. All the major stores (Big C, Lotus, etc) sell wiper-washer fluid. Look in the car care sections it's a bluish liquid that look like windex but is formulated for car wiper systems. Or can just use a few drops of dishwasher soap or dilute windex 10-1 with DISTILLED water.

Ive been using that stuff for years from Tesco - 55 baht or so for a 500ml bottle. I put half in the reservoir and top up with water.

Not happy with it - tends to have periods when it leaves a slightly greasy deposit on the screen. Nowhere near as good as proper screenwash I used to buy in UK - I'm also looking for cheap alternatives if they don't damage the bodywork.

Yes it can be tough and expensive to get high quality car care products in Thailand. However, if this guy has an old beater or is not so much into car detailing and just wants something to fill the reservoir these thai products are ok, cheap, and don't contain ammonia. I don't use my reservoir solution to "clean" the windshield (that I do properly when I wash the car) but to only lubricate the windscreen and blades when I turn them on during a downpour. The rain water takes care of any solution that ends up on the body finish.

  2. In the US to make a wrong turn can just place you in a dangerous spot.

When I moved to San Jose in California in the 90s, I visited Palo Alto. A very expensive and classy area of the city with most houses over a couple million dollars, the Stanford University, and very famous residents. That was Palo Alto, but on the west side of the freeway. In the other side, just crossing a small bridge over the road, was Palo Alto East, a real ghetto, and considered one of the most dangerous areas in the country. Full of dilapidated houses and streets. I got there for mistake, and had very scary moments...just looking around.

Police was posted in the west side of the bridge monitoring who was crossing it. A real border...and a reality that most Americans do not know...or do not want to talk about. You can be at the wrong place....at the wrong time, very easily in the US.

LOL...yeah, East Palo Alto is a real hole.
  3. You looking for Smith Machine or standard squat cage. The gym at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit has a Smith Machine. I've found this the best gym in Sukghumvit to keep up my workouts when I'm in town. Much cheaper than those office building fitness centers too.

  4. Thank you boldface for your comments. I totally agree with you.

I know there is more to Pattaya than the seedy side, this is what mainly comes up when you search for information about Pattaya.

I have researched and know there are a lot of large industries outside Pattaya in the automotive and O&G industries. I have met someone who works at Ford when I visited the first time. I don't have the background in these industries.

My friend wants to open a small cafe. But like you say unless you have done it before and have the experience. There are cafes all over Pattaya.

It maybe nice to try it as side business for him , but not for me to come all the way over there try to setup a cafe, no mater how different we tried to make it. I have read lots of horror stories about small business failures in Thailand for inexperienced people. Theft, staffing problems, rental agreements etc This is why I am asking some questions. I've also read you need to come to Thailand with some financially security also. It maybe cheaper to live there, but you can quickly lose money also.

So thank you for your comments.

I would suggest a Western style vegetarian/vegan bakery-restaurant. Pattaya really needs a good one of these.

  5. Are the you guys who live here self employed, do you work for a multi-national? What sort of business are you in?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

My friends are retired army, business owners, not bars, a millionaire, won the lottery, and i retired at 50 because my investments did very well, and still do, not forgetting my 4 private pensions and government pension to come. Also i have friends who will retire at 55 and live here ,already have houses and enough funds to live happily.

Strange, but seems like the expats, just living on government pensions are the ones who sit at a bar all day, drinking cheap chang

Strange but i know loads of expats living here on govt pensiones and not one of them sits drinking in bars , mind you from what i hear lots of special opps and ex army seals , seem to sit around in bars drinking all day biggrin.png

Yeah., they sit around and drink at home ?
  6. my liking would be every immigration in THailand works with the same rules. Now im 52 and dont have the patience anymore 15years ago..Also I didn't go there for attitude adjustment for my daughter. One day I will be gone and I know daughter will have problems the way(westernstyle) she is.I taught her to speak up if she thinks something wrong

It should be obvious to you and everyone else on this forum that the combination of a pension and money in the bank should be exactly as they said i.e. the money in the bank should be there for three months. If not then anybody could set up a simple pension with a bank or broker paying as little as 5000 baht per month giving a total of 60,000 Bt a year and then put 740,000 in the bank for a few days days( by borrowing it from a friend perhaps) and then expect to get a yearly retirement Visa extension.

It is true that some immigration officers are very easy-going and don't apply the rules very strictly and some do. You are at fault and my experiences that you should have everything strictly covered and it is quite clear what is needed for any type of visa. You should also know that in Thailand whatever happens you should keep your cool be very polite and nice whatever happens and you will never have any trouble.

Nonsense. Read the law. It has been in effect and observed, at least at Chaeng Wattana, for many years. Conbination of income and cash, the law doesn't require seasoning of the deposit. And many people use that method.

Probably better to be in possession of the facts before you pronounce your verdict, lest you appear like the self-important ignoramus that is that immigration officer.

I doubt the OP needs any lectures from the hang-em-high contingent here on TV.

Maybe the op should move to Bangkok.
  7. Nobody here with any credibility would ever suggest screaming at immigration officers is a good idea.

Nobody here with any credibility would ever suggest that screaming at a 12 year old child after having humiliated her dad is not a deeply traumatic experience for the child and an abject abuse of power.

Oh please...I'm sure she'll get over it. There's a lot worse crap coming her way in life.

  8. Good for him. I have no time for unearned elitism. His excuses are pretty pathetic but the fact he stands by his principles is good

I don't really have a dog in this fight but I admire the man for expressing his true feelings and not engaging in mindless ritual (if he doesn't believe in them). I suspect he is also an atheist and the Queen is the titular head of the Church of England so he would probably want to avoid swearing anything to her on that basis as well. At least he doesn't have to use money inscribed with the idiotic phrase "In God We Trust," so he should at least be happy with that.

  9. All the Democratic candidates as well as the majority of the American people believe there should be gun control laws. There isn't a single Republican candidate who would dare mention gun control because they'd be drummed out of the corp. That's the way they roll in wingnuttia.

Instead of real issues facing America, Republicans have their own issues they address. These aren't real problems. These are the problems Republicans want to address:

    1. America has too few wars. (All the candidates are itching to start the next one.)

    2. The rich pay too much in taxes. (Got to feed the cash machine)

    3. America should do less about climate change. (Koch Bros don't like climate change talk.)

    4. Poor people especially women are provided too much health insurance (Lazy bitches)

    5. Immigrants are ruining everything (Put them all on buses and build the wall)

So instead of addressing the real problems like wage inequality, climate change, women's rights, the sorry state of the mental health programs, etc, etc, etc. We get the above crapola from the Republicans with ridiculous arguments like cars kill people so let's ban cars.

    So it goes.

There are already strict gun control laws in the United States, including very strict laws in the most populated areas like California, New York, Illinois, and the District of Columbia (funny these are also some of the areas with the highest crime and gun homicide rates). Do you know how much BS law-abiding citizens have to go through to buy and carry/use a gun? Have you ever bought and owned a gun?

You can rail all you want and beat your head against a wall but fortunately there is the Second Amendment, which has been found to give an individual right to own a gun (not a collective militia right ) and there's no way around that for you gun haters...so go pound sand!

Wow "gun haters"...suprised you never accused the poster of anti american rhetoric as well

You post illustrates perfectly why there should be more firearms controls in the US

    And for the record

    1. I completed my military training 2. Carried a concealed firearm for many years in civvy street

    3. Worked for a couple of years in the US and seen all manner of gun nuts and John Wayne types who should have never been allowed a fire arm in the first place

In my opinion the US should significantly tighten up the gun laws and take the legal guns off the various fruit loops and sort out the influnce of the NRA, which i am sure your a card carrying member of, as its completely out of hand in the US

Well we had a revolution and wrote ourselves this thing called the Constitution to govern ourselves and we gave ourselves the right to own a gun as free people. While you Australians are still under the yoke of British so thank you for your advice on rights and freedoms but I don't think you know the first thing about the words.[/quote

We have the freedom to go anywhere without worrying about getting shot, so your idea of freedom is perverted. Plus you don't seem to know what yoke means.

i am not an Aussie dear boy so thats the premise of your whole post shot to sh@t but nice diatribe and rant none the less and please dont shoot me

Well if you're not the argument is still the same. If you think guns are so useless in stopping crime and protecting others, why do most police around the world carry them? Maybe they should spout your liberal shibboleths to bad guys instead of shooting them.

I am not a liberal by any stretch of the imagination...never said guns are useless at any point or in any of my comments,

as i pointed out i carried a concealed firearm for many years in civvy street, and discharged it on more than one occasion

You should save your childish little jibes for your NRA meeting and stop putting words in my mouth...

I have stated there are far too many loonies and John Wayne shoot em up types who have easy access to firearms in the US and the gun permitting laws need to be sorted out and the NRA needs to be brought under control as far too many people are being killed in mass shootings by half wits with delusions

Usually people who are obcessed with fire arms is an indication of the person being inadequate in other departments.

Okay, I'm starting to understand your arguments now...you should be allowed to carry a firearm and shoot people for what we will assume, arguendo, we're valid reasons, but other people shouldn't have this right to protect themselves and their loved ones. Makes sense to me ?

  10. Nothing like a cut in welfare benefits to get these lazy sods off the couche and into the streets. Now if they only put as much energy into obtaining employment skills and a job.

Yeah lots of jobs available with large companies laying off workforce as if there is no tomorrow.

That's what happens when you price your labour too high and only wanna work 35 hours a week...nobody wants to hire you.

facepalm.gif na...have been to both and cant find anything else than car shampoo and wax.

    Looks like this:

See the little graphic of the hand pouring it it into the engine. All car care sections have it...even Foodland (next to Windex).
