  1. Occasionally working construction (not on our condo or home developments... but on things like putting up fences, building walls around property, tiling, etc.) with my 300 Baht a day workers, which I try to do several times a year.... those periodic 'keeping up with the Lamsams' type feelings disappear pretty quickly with the dirt and sweat.

Working side beside people does tend to break down barriers doesn't it.

  2. just a recent jealous incident that i experienced today and thought it would be good to share with you guys

i was in my usual pub earlier today and just as usual, i had fish n chips. what got me was the bloke 2 tables away from me who ordered shortly after me.

not only did he receive his meal first but was of a bigger portion at the same price. now, thats some serious jealousy going on inside me

That often happens to long time customers. There is a café I go to where I get extra service and the odd extra treat. The owners daughter will bring me a piece of fruit or a pastry no charge.

  3. It costs a lot of money for the government to take care of all your potential problems. That is why taxes are so high in the west. In Thailand you are on your own and you need to do your own due diligence. Just about everything is available on the internet. Protect yourself if you are interested, otherwise accept the consequences. Everyone with half a brain knows that Thailand has ridiculously low environmental standards.

  4. When I was a young girl my father bought me a Daisy air gun. It was pretty accurate at short distances and I used to shoot grasshoppers for sport. While I was in Thailand I often thought I would have enjoyed shooting cockroaches and the rats that run from my hotel's garbage bins and a nearby pond.

  5. From what I understand, only the private ponds like Borsan and Dreampark require payment. There is no license required for the large reservoirs, and there are no size or bag limits. Unfortunately, sports anglers will be competing with local Thais that use nets, set lines and electric shockers to kill anything and everything. There are some lovely rivers in Thailand but locals have the fishing rights tied up. I saw native mahseer in the Wa River in Nan province, but the local village does not allow fishing, even if it is catch and release.

  6. None of us know all the details, so all we can do is surmise. There is no question that something is happening behind the scene. Even I could see the harassment by the police on bars on upper Loi Kroh road. All I can say is to wish Pedr and his family all the best for his future. It is obvious that many here hold him in high regard, and that says something for his integrity.

  7. I think the bigger question is, why do people assume that others are jealous.

I believe those are the truly insecure.

No need to assume anything. Just let people stew in their own juices. If they are jealous then that is their problem. If not then who cares. Just pay attention to your own actions and leave the rest to others.

  8. They are tough critters. I wacked a few with those electric rackets and they still kept going. At least it slowed them down enough to stamp on them. You can't help but admire their tenacity.

  9. Well, I just finished something pleasant. I had smoked salmon pate with crackers and some Philadelphia cream cheese. And, all washed down with the remainder of a white wine given to me by a friend. Sorry, I didn't take photos.

Now I better get back to editing a manuscript.

  10. What I am actually doing or what I would like to be doing?

I am mowing the lawn and cutting the weeds that I've allowed to grow for too long. My neighbours probably think they are living next to a native reserve. What I would LIKE to be doing is riding a motorbike I borrowed from a friend.

  11. I sure appreciate the price of good cheese now that I'm back in Canada. It is about 1/3 the price of Thailand.

And how much would a mango cost you in Canada compared to Thailand?

    It's all relative.

Actually, I can buy a mango from Mexico for about $1... or about 30 baht. But that is not the point. Thailand should be able to process good cheese but they don't seem to be able to. I don't really mind though because I will share my time between both countries. That way I will get the best of both countries. There are many things about Thailand that I love, or I would go elsewhere, but I don't. I don't have to be anywhere, so I can pick and choose where I wish to stay. I know the good and bad of most countries, and no place is perfect.

  12. IFA, short hand for no mark leech. Making money off the back of others and scurrying down the drains when they get found out.

I just knew there was a reason why he was an obsessed no mark. He's on the run from his past. laugh.png

  13. I don't experience jealousy in Thailand because nobody views me as a threat. I never display any wealth and I stay in a simple Thai hotel. I don't flirt with the men, so Thai women don't pay much attention other than to look at my hair.
