  1. Interesting thread - im going to China next week for 2 months and was wondering how it is for single female travellers? I will be mainly in the North West and Xian. This is a huge step out of my comfort zone that is for sure!

  2. I got drunk in Chiang Mai and managed to fall out of bed in my sleep. Woke up on the floor and something had bitten me all over my bum - big red marks with a yellow middle - it was awful, there were about 20. My friend thought it was hilarious and took lots of photos. My next birthday she made me a card with the picture on and gave them out to all our girlfriends - oh how funny

Never worked out what bit me and have never had anything like that bite me again.

  3. Jeeez! Cant beleive he just stayed there and did nothing - surely if hed been in Thailand so long he would probably know that there would be some kind of civilisation not too far away, probably even a 7/11 somewhere within walking distance :o Its not like he was dumped in the middle of the Amazon. Oh dear me, what a silly man (if the story is true). Perhaps he's better off finishing his retirement in Wales from now on.

  4. Us males know what we want. We want women. Beyond that we don't know how to get women, but we know we want them!

We have tried things like singing out from construction sites & honking the car horn at a woman that walks by, these are some of the best ideas we have come up with so far.

One thing about the male organization.

Wherever there is a woman in the world, we have a man working on her right now. He may not be our best man, but we have do have someone on the job.

    :o

:D ha ha, that made me laugh alot! In my one trip out of the house today, I have been whistled, honked and shouted at, all in the space of walking down the same street! It just doesnt work! (but it does make me smile secretly)

  5. For 30000/month I'd go home and try earning a decent living...

Dont think you quite understood me Alexth - I AM home, and am earning quite a decent living as a student :o I am looking for work over the summer as a working holiday and to gain some more experience to help with my degree. So thanks for the 'advice' but its not needed ta :D

  6. Thanks KD! And yep market square has certianly changed, for the better, its beautiful now and yes there are a few monks knocking round (along with the usual tramps/chavs/big issue sellers/robin hood lookalikes etc) Great fun on a sunny day!

Any idea which sect the monks are from? FWBO (Friends of the Western Buddhist Order)? What colour are their robes?

Sorry Camerata, I took in so much information during our conversation, I didnt catch the full name - will know more next week as I am due to spend a day at one of the children's centres. As for robes, well he was wearing normal clothes (I presume as he was around the city) I did notice his fantastic socks and sandals combo though!!!

  7. Thanks for the info guys, ill do some research into the places you mentioned and continue to have a think. Dont really mind where I live really, its just the money side of things that matters most, as im coming to Thailand with very little savings :o so need to make sure my living costs are quite low.

  9. Hey, wondered if anyone could offer any advice - I have been offered a job for 3 months over summer, based between Bangkok and Nakorn Pathom, and now just have to make the decision of which place to base myself and live.

My salary is 30,000, and im quite adept to living cheaply (with the odd blow out here and there). So it would be nice to hear anyones views, experiences etc on what you would do if you were me!

    thanks :o

  10. Yesterday, whilst sat in town waiting for my boyfriend, I got talking to a Buddhist monk (English guy) who was doing the rounds raising money for a local childrens home. We had a really good chat about Buddhism etc, and in the end, I ended up donating some money, and also offering to volunteer some time to work with their scheme (okay, so I did it cos it would help me with my course/CV etc).

My boyfriend arrived and we finished the conversation, and off we went in the sunshine for a picnic on the park. About 3 hours later I went to my bag to find my phone (un-insured) and it was gone. I knew immediately it was lost, and I had left it on the steps in the Nottinghams busy market square. As far as I was concerned, it was gone for good, and I was just a wee bit angry with myself for being so dizzy.

Rushed back to the square and called my number, just hoping. On the third call a guy picked up - he had found my phone, and had waited around town all day hoping I would return - he had even tried to call my Dad to see if he could contact me somehow!

Went and met the guy, and took him for a pint! It just got me thinking about Karma, as I felt I was doing a good deed that day. And in return something good happened to me.

As far as im concerned I was bloody lucky to get the phone back - especially leaving it in Notts city centre - there was a group of about 10 Chavs sat just next to me, and really they could have picked it up and run me up a super phone bill!

Anyway, just thought id share that with you, as it certainly got me thinking. Not sure if I can afford to donate much more money to charity, but will certianly be doing some voluntary work in the future.

    Gouranga!

  11. Hey! Im wondering what do do with my summer holidays and just had the idea that maybe I could work in Thailand. Not really a question about quals exactly (I did TEFL for 2 years in Southern Thailand without a degree) more a question on what the job market might be like for a temp with experience for the months of July/August/September, any views on whether people will want to bother with me for such a short time?

    Thanks, K

  12. I flew Qatar just recently and thought they were great value for money - I also wangled an upgrade to Business class on the way home which was outstanding. And am currently looking into flights to Jakarta and again Qatar seem to be the cheapest and best

  13. Baht and Sold

    Felix Lynn

    Udon

The Gentleman Scamp - who technically is not missing, because I saw him the day before yesterday and put a note under his apartment door about an hour ago.

WHAT :o he actually has an apartment!!!!!

  14. I have a 7 hour stop over in Doha on my way back from Bangkok, so thought I would try out the Oryx lounge as somewhere to while away the boring hours.

I have been online to find the info out, but cant see any info on how to actually book a place, as on their website it says you have to book 24 hours in advance, but of course I wont be there 24 hours in advance!

Has anyone used this service, and if so, what is the best way to book and pay for it - and can I not just do it on arrival?

    Thanks in advance. K

  15. Wow, thats super scary! Had I been on that flight, I think you could safely say I would probably be applying for Citizenship in Bali - certainly wouldnt ever dare fly anywhere again. Im worse enough on normal flights.

A friend told me that they once set off from Sydney to NZ and one of the engines failed, they had to make a round turn straight after take off and make an emergency landing.

I remember landing at Krabi airport, and after landing the plane ran down the runway making a horrible noise, then turned sideways - we ended up off the runway, on the grass, sideways on. Everyone on board was extremely shaken up, and when we got of the plane we saw that the tyre was flat. Was shaken up for days after.

I would imagine things go wrong lots more than we hear about - probably a good thing!

God, ive got to fly in 1 month :o

  16. Sit down somewhere, now lift your right foot and rotate in a clockwise direction. Now, whilst doing this draw the figure 6 in the air with the index finger of your right hand. Now be amazed as this will cause your leg to rotate in the opposite direction. Amazing fact eh!

    didnt happen

In that case you must be super-human!
