  1. ^^ 'To be accurate financials transactions of A$10k & above are monitored and reported upon by AUSTRAC as required by Australian legislation.'

You'll find it a U$10K transfer is reported everywhere in the world as demanded by the USA to counter drug and money-laundering.

  2. So...can anyone provide the details for the Thai consumer protection organisation here in CMai?

This will help the OP and others.

Such as those like my colleague scammed by the Thai lady running a drapery business in the Sansai-DoiSaket new housing estates, who takes a hefty downpayment then uses the downpayment on other than the drapes, her excuses continuing for over four months now, alledgedly. Police are not interested.

  3. ^ Their in-store bakeries are fabulous, luv the German brotchen with the crispy exterior, bringing me back, methaphorically, to the goode olde days of the Black Forest.

  4. I recommend 'Tuff Kote Dinol' as you are leaving town on the right just past the Arcade Bus terminal turnoff. It offers both rust proofing and car grooming or 'detailing', like shine kote. Used it in NAmer and here in CMai. They also offer a car wash service, an inexpensive booklet of tickets is your best bet, check it out before your 1st wash.

  5. Shooed my dogs away from my cat who took refuge under the table thanfully, in a darkened kitchen.

She was so hyper that she latched onto my arm with four paws and sunk her teeth into my hand, it was dark afterall. Yeow! howled the cat, and myself, as I eventually shook her off.

Tetanus shots were recommended and worked.

She too was fine. We're still friends.

Bitten too, trying to separate two entangled fighting pet dogs. As above, best to let fighting dogs fight.

I've yet to come up with a quick separation strategy, except to keep well clear. whistling.gif

  6. #11 'And anyway in a few years time I might not have Bt800,000 to put in my bank account. Any ideas on this situation?'

As you have the 800K now, then put it in the bank now, and seed it. 500B here and a 1000B there soon will deplete your balance if you fail to adequately control it. Do not fritter it away on wild nights on the town.

There are ambulatory services no doubt available, an aide to wheel you about in a wheelchair is not all that expensive.

  7. ^^ Marstons advice is exactly what you need to do to calmly, effectively, and legally solve your visa dilemma.

Calm down, get your documents in order, open and seed a bank account soonest, and show up at the appointed time with your immigration lawyer, or service.

Other advice here is equally good, and you should calmly and methodically review their advice so you completely know what visa you are entitled to, and the steps to take.

It is best to ensure you have the 800,000B in a Thai bank account starting now; well in advance of the three-month requirement . Borrow the capital from a Swiss bank if needs be, have them deposit it into your Thai account and pay them back as stipulated. Use a Thai Bank account to eliminate any more possible confusion.

Seed this account monthly or bi-weekly over the year by withdrawing and depositing monthly to show you are actually using the funds.

Once you have all your application documentation in a folio, double and triple check all, for accuracy.

Go alone on the visa renewal date.

The visa renewal date can be 30-days in advance; this is a good thing, for you have extra time for whatever reason to get the required stamp.

Once you secure your new visa next year, then it should be clear sailing for the future.

    Good luck...Mamasun. thumbsup.gif

  8. Someone mentioned earlier that one can not obtain health insurance in Thailand if over 60. Actually you can up to and excluding your 66th birthdate.

Actually, with LMG Pacific you can get coverage, up to age 65 inclusive: on the day you turn 66 you are on your own. Be sure your full medical (approx B5000) results are processed and sent to LMG in time for them to enrol you before the day of your 66th birthday. Cost is just over B20K for the LMG midrange coverage with no outpatient: This is basically similar to BUPA midrange coverage (BUPA is more expensive).

BUPA covers you for life provided you have had a continuous plan with them since age 60, otherwise no.

You can do your own cost/coverage comparisons.

    Cheers, FWIW.

And no I am not an agent, just retired and having had to change provider once costs escalated. Which they will with age, unfortunately.

  9. ^ Hmm...Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

The 'XTra Fee(s)' probably apply too when shipping from Thailand to the UK or America. If so this could prove financially disastrous depending on the number and length of stay at intermediary ports.

  10. Most plastic rain gear rips apart easily at the seams it seems, especially while riding a motorcycle.

Found the perfect rain suit selection at reasonable prices at the police/military/outdoors supply shop just south of Chang Phuek Gate, west side, across and towards the gate from the soccer pitch.

  11. ^ Yes, I brought back a pack of three on sale - heavy, as the rolls are quite large and wide.

I use it to tape over bandages should the dog cut herself. She usually rips off any medical tape or the tape sold in Thailand as "duct" tape, but never the Duct tape itself.

Of course it comes in handy for all kinds of things. Cheers

  12. ^ "It is a requirement that person taking the mortgage must take out an insurance policy to pay off the mortgage in case of death , but he can also take out another policy in his name as well"

Indeed, the farang paying for the house must have life insurance too, otherwise everyone including the bank loses out should he die. Mortgage life insurance on the wife alone does not cater to all eventualities.

Can the farang take out life insurance for the mortgage with the same bank, or where?

    Cheers
