I believe those high numbers of casualties during a holiday season are unique in the world.
Indeed they are! Most countries with good highway infrastructure, strong driving laws enforcement, and skilled, capable ( I say that with some reluctance) drivers see holiday death tolls at a fraction of Thailand's during this and other holiday seasons. Most in this forum know why they're so high.
NOW...., ban all motor bike traffic (without exception!) during this time and the number would be cut by 65%+. Unfortunate that this is the single most common form of transportation here.
Why stop there?
Ban alcohol as well.
Steady on, i have never been anything more than a drunk pedestrian

Just a pity the ABAC poll didn't ask who big bro' should be asking for blessings and forgiveness from.
Big 'bro rules so blessings etc are usually sought from him I would suggest

This is very good news for those considering a similar endeavor.
As long as they keep the damage minimal. Thai justice at it's twisted, illogical best, surprised the sentence wasn't suspended
-
Typical of Thai politics, do everything, promise everything, say anything to get into power, but when everything is over, no help and no recognition for those who helped, sweated, and risked their lives for the party.
At least some red shirts made it into the cabinet and they were the ones who told the mob to " leave Bangkok in flames " but I'll bet they didn't set fire to anything

Nothing new with youngsters copying their parents who are too busy with their own lives to monitor them anyway. Do the authors of these reports think them through before opening their mouths as I can't see how anyone can gamble on line without setting up an account first ?

2000 baht reward ? that's so cheap ........ usually 10% is a good thing .....
Yes, a nice one from the taxi driver but not so from the loser. She's carrying more than B500,000 and he gets 2,000 and a T-shirt

Soooo.....does this mean she might have to flee the country and then continue to govern via a proxy?
Got the strongest feeling of deja vu.
Has anyone seen any tanks yet?
Plenty of Shinawatra's to fill in here. Move over the Kim's in Nth. Korea there's a new dynasty on the block but they are not a threat to the region only to their own people

Her comments concerning what help that this current maladministration would give provided their puppet candidate was elected to the position of Bangkok Governor is indeed very reminiscent of the comments her brother the grand puppet master made when he was in power visibly.
.
''Villages/ areas that voted for us will receive help the villages/areas that didn't vote for us will receive nothing.nothing.''
True enough those areas that didn't vote for the Thaksin stooges were deprived of funds, indeed a wonderful comment on
demonocracydemocracy Thaksin clan styleAfter re-election he told teachers in Khon Kaen there would be more cash etc for education but not to areas that didn't vote for him. It was carried throughout the media and naturally he claimed he was misquoted. He also wanted to divide the south into colour coded areas depending on insurgent activity and that would determine what aid they did, or didn't, get but was persuaded to back away from the idea. Dictatorship pure and simple

I'll bet TAT don't want this story to go international

It's a bit late with areas of the North choking for weeks. Another government exercise in BS but I see the words " war on ", " vigorous ", " aggressive action " etc were not used

"Although we couldn't arrest any gamblers this time, we believe we have
sent our message across that we are seriously cracking down on
gambling," said Maj-General Suthee Nenkantee, commander of Metropolitan
Police Division 2.
"For now, we can only prevent any transaction related to the building.
It can't be sold or transferred. However, the building owner can still
use the property until the court orders its expropriation," he said.
Another dog and pony show. I bet it is re re-opened by the weekend.
I wonder is there was a warning " we are coming " phone call ?

Wonder how many casions the shinawatras have on the Cambodian side?
Also useful for escaping justice
-
Well, it works for Thai murderers to get to Cambodia, so why is anyone surprised about a foreigner doing a runner.
Of course, the next question, is why bail murderers;?
Last week there was an article praising Immigration for stopping wanted fugitives on arrival but departure is an entirely different matter

So now Thailand can call itself Hi So.
Pissed on decent wine and not cheap whisky and crap beer is definetly a step up.
A new type of ear medicine, maybe.
I have to admit I read the article carefully as at first I thought it meant Chalerm's expertise had finally been recognised

Positively riveting information I hung on every word. Not
I was about to write you couldn't make this rubbish up but obviously somebody did

Oh dear, someone tell the Thais that this is the International Court of Justice and it's the judges who make the decisions there not the politicians.
and are not in their pockets
-
Oh, so now we are going from
1. Close down DM to 2. Open DM to budget airlines and now 3. back to using it for international Airlines.
Has somebody been doing some serious research? This plan will please some travelers and annoy others.
However, personally, although not a traveler, I am glad to see Thailand utilizing both airports effectively.
Good move.
I seem to remember that shortly after the new airport opened it was considered it would be a full capacity in no time flat yet had been billed as " the be all and end all " in the usual Thai fashion. Better DM is used for planes instead of storing all that rice as was suggested

"The DSI seems to deal with this case in a way that will bring negative impacts to the opposition party," he said, adding that he would rather wait for results of the investigation by the NACC, which has the authority in probing this case.
This and other ridicules charges against the opposition prove that the DSI is the lap dog of a convicted criminal.
None of us are, I hope, so naive as to believe anything or anyone in Thailand is truly independent and free from political influence but the DSI is taking it to new heights. Perhaps they should change their initials to PTP DSI

So that's two Thais and four foreign fiends...!
Wonder who'll be aquitted?
I'm sure the Thais were conned by the foreigners into running a con. LOL
-
It's a puzzle, isn't it?
Thais aren't interested in what happened 500 years ago so why worry about what happened 500 days ago.
They also have an " all right on the night " attitude so everything is left to the last minute
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow, if not indefinitely ?

Waste of time and money
Everyone is too pissed to take any notice

PM Yingluck
concerned over smoke haze problem in Northwas too busy planning her next diplomatic trips and shopping toursThis problem existed for probably several months and weeks, and then you suddenly dare to say: "Oh, I'm worried just now".....
The IN Channel news said there are up to another 30 countries to be visited this year. Head in the sand over problems at home or is it head in the clouds at taxpayers expense ?

The only thing they've done so far is use it as an opportunity to put up lots of big banners with her pretty face on, they say 'don't burn' but until you start fining your voters they just ignore it.
The only thing her supporters, and cabinet ministers, don't mind burning is Bangkok

He said the Premier also instructed the Science Ministry to keep a close eye on the situation while urging all concerned offices to speedily put the problem to an end.
Problem solved....so easy.
Expect to see the same statement in the news about this time next year.
Great name for a government spokesman, Tossaporn. Wonder what his nickname is ?
