While washing your veggies in various solutions will help, by far the most effective method of removing toxic residues is to ozonate them before consumption.

An ozone generator specifically for this use (NOT an air purifier) costs a few thousand baht and can eliminate 96-99.9% of pesticides (depending on which machine you buy).

We grow much of our own organic food, but ozonate everything we buy.

Place veggies in a bowl of water, place the diffuser from the machine into the bowl of water and ozonate for 15 mins. That's all it takes. Another benefit is that the veggies perk up and last longer afterwards.

Out of interest, where can you buy an “ozone generator” in Thailand please? HomePro?

When you say that the cost is a few thousand baht? What do you mean? 5000?

  2. Even more knockabout stuff this morning, with a great tongue-in-cheek article:

“At her encouragement he lost weight, cut down on booze and meat and got a decent haircut. He's even taken up yoga, for goodness sake!

‘With largely positive results, she has also encouraged him to champion environmental issues, embrace feminist campaigns and distance himself from the unreconstructed Boris of old, who referred to women as 'fillies' and joked about how voting Tory would 'increase the size of your girlfriend's breasts'.”

However, “Some sources close to the Johnson family say the breakdown of his 25-year union has left him so deeply disturbed that he is 'all over the place' and 'psychologically unfit' to be in another long-term relationship, let alone be prime minister.”

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7173013/JANE-FRYER-asks-crumpled-unstatesmanlike-Boris-feeling-strain-bid-PM.html

Johnson likes to say: “Our policy is having our cake and eating it”. Maybe, just maybe he is about to learn the meaning of that old saying: “Be careful of what you wish for, because you may just get it.”

  3. The knockabout stuff continues 555

Now the anarchists are demonstrating with big banners outside the flat

'Come on out Boris! We know you're hiding under your f***ing chaise longue.

‘We've had enough of old Etonians, f*** off!'

In the last line of your link another neighbour said 'it was quite loud, I was worried'.

So maybe the call to the police was the right decision after all?

Well maybe ... if only to protect Johnson from his spikey girlfriend! 555

I am no fan of Johnson, and think it will be a disaster for the U.K., if he becomes PM, but he is no ‘wife beater’. She’s the one who was smashing the plates.

it’s his gf who has the backbone in their relationship. She was one of the passengers of John Worboys, the black cab rapist. He had been convicted and imprisoned. The Parole Board wanted to release him. Its decision made big headlines and was heavily criticised.

It is believed she used her influence behind the scenes to get the decision reversed. It was judicially reviewed and overturned by the Court.

The head of the Parole Board, Nick Hardwick, was forced to resign as his position had become untenable.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6153181/Did-Carrie-Symonds-fight-John-Worboys-jail-cost-job.html

She’s only only 31 years old, but she’s already one tough cookie, so I’m sure Johnson does as he’s told.

Polly Toynbee in the Guardian wrote:

“When Carrie Symonds is reported to be railing at him for ruining her sofa with red wine, shouting “You don’t just care for anything because you’re spoilt. You have no care for money or anything” she lands a direct hit on everything about him that should give Tory members, and the rest of us, pause for thought: the sense of entitlement, the privilege and the fecklessness.”

Ms Toynbee went on to say that Johnson parks his car outside and ignores the parking tickets:

“Another neighbour was reported as saying: ‘It’s got loads of parking tickets on it. He just leaves it here. He doesn’t care.’ That’s the attitude: parking tickets are for little people. That cavalier posh-boy spoiled behaviour should truly upset law abiding Tory party members.”

This is the link to her article in full:

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/commentisfree/2019/jun/22/boris-johnson-character-issue-nation

The whole incident is, in one sense, much ado about nothing. All couples argue, sometimes very loudly. I don’t like Johnson, but rather than trying to smear him with false accusations of domestic violence, I would prefer people see the incident for what it is: yet another example of his sense of entitlement as an “Old Etonian princeling politician” who has no real regard for the rest of us.

Anyhow, Boris, thanks for making this a little more interesting! I doubt that he will lose a lot of votes, but you never know...

  6. This is the couple who called the police.

Then “after they were assured by police that there was nothing to worry about, that no one was hurt, no crime had been committed and that there was no cause for further action” they rang the Guardian:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7170867/Carrie-Symonds-scared-home-recorded-political-stich-neighbours.html

The man is English and voted Remain. His wife was described by one interviewer as an 'American Leftist Buddhist Jewish playwright.' Apparently, she posted on Facebook that she gave Boris Johnson ‘the finger’ when she saw him in the street.

Apparently, the neighbour who alerted the police, also called the Guardian., hence their exclusive (maybe they called the Guardian first!)

The domestic incident also inspired a neighbour to show off his rapping ‘skills’:

More interestingly the the police at first denied the incident until presented with the case report number and Tag numbers of the attending police vehicles.

It doesn’t, hence the word ‘maybe’. It was tongue-in-cheek speculation on my part, which is why I put it in brackets.

I am no fan of Johnson

but all couples have arguments, and his gf is no shrinking violet. Indeed, one of the main reasons he has been successful so far in this leadership election is because she has him on a tight leash, so he has not had an opportunity to make his usual gaffes.

i don’t think anyone in authority is taking the incident too seriously.

With the situation described I would really like to know how one supports a murder theory?

Must be terrible for the relatives/family to read such details!

But death sometimes unveils secrets that would better be gone with the deceased.

He he could have been murdered by secret agents (aka the intelligence community)

‘.... staging deaths via auto-erotic asphyxiation was a favourite technique of secret agents. The reason — he argued — was that the deeply unedifying circumstances of such deaths make them unlikely to be properly investigated. After all, friends and family of the deceased are usually too embarrassed to want them to garner much attention.’

Don't forget Johnson was a remainer who flipped too, when he thought it was to his political advanaged to do so.

Johnson’s grasp of detail and facts is somewhat suspect, which is why he is not trusted by foreign diplomats and politicians. This will obviously cause a problem if he wants to negotiate new Brexit terms with the EU.

Here is a review of his book on Churchill (no prizes for guessing who Johnson is really writing about!)

The review, written in November 2014, is by Sir Richard J Evans who, until 2014, was the Regius Professor of History at Cambridge:

  10. An important thing to remember is that visas are issued by embassies and consulates, which come under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Entry into Thailand at land borders and airports is the responsibility of Immigration. You may have a valid visa in your passport, but it is at the discretion of the Immigration Officer whether you are granted permission to stay.

So, they are two different government departments, who operate independently of each other. The idea of ‘joined up government’ is just that: an idea; it has no basis in reality irrespective of whether it is Thailand, the UK, USA or wherever.

In my experience, repeat applications for tourist visas in your home country will not be a problem, so long as you provide all the relevant supporting documents. Your fee is an important  source of income for the embassies and consulates.

As you have been reading TVF for 6 months, you will have noticed that embassies and consulates in countries adjacent to Thailand have certain individual rules about how many tourist visas they will grant you.

Dealing with Immigration is ok, so long as you are reasonably polite and respectful; there is no need to be obsequious. If, however, you get their backs up by being rude or impatient then you only have yourself to blame if they find a reason, however obscure, to deny you entry.

This is a link to my post (#80) dated 21st January this year.

In summary, I have been coming to Thailand since January 2012. In that time (January 2012 and June 2018), I have had 1 visa exempt; 10 single entry tourist visas; and 4 old style, no longer available, triple entry tourist visas. I am currently (since September 2018) on a multi entry O-A (long stay) visa.

When I first posted my comments, some TV members made the helpful comment that I probably gave too much information about background factors such as personal appearance. A fair point, so a good reason for not reproducing the original post here.

Another member in that thread kindly referred me to a post where someone, through no fault of his own, had had a very unpleasant experience with Immigration at DM airport.

So things can go wrong. I’m not denying it. We only hear about the things that go wrong on TVF; everyone else does not feel the need to post. That was why I decided, as a counterbalance, to post my positive experiences of dealing with the embassies and with Immigration.

Up to you whether you follow the link.

  11. Additional information about Ritza.

Their menu consists of 23 sides of A4. It is only on the final page that you are told that the prices quoted on the previous pages do not include 7% vat. Really, the prices on every page should include vat, or alternatively, every page should indicate that vat is extra. Putting that information on page 23 at the back of the menu is not customer friendly/focused.

I had the omelette for 120 baht and americano for 75 baht. The omelette was filled with cheese, tomatoes, and onion (I refused the inclusion of ham as well) with a side salad and dressing. It was a tasty meal.

The coffee was a better quality than Bon Cafe, with a good flavour.

I was expecting the bill to be 195 baht (120 + 75). The invoice was for 214.50 baht (vat was shown separately). I was in a rush and so paid without checking the bill in detail. It was only later that I realised that an extra 19.5 baht on top of 195 was 10% not 7%. Unfortunately, I had not kept the till receipt.

The drinks menu board, on the wall behind the till, lists the prices exclusive of vat. There’s no indication on the board that vat is extra.

So when you visit, maybe take a calculator with you to check the prices for bread.

I went back a second time and ordered a coffee so I could check the menu. It was only then that I saw the notice about 7% on the final page.

Although the food and the coffee were good, the unexpected addition of vat has left me feeling cheated and angry. An extra 20 baht is not the end of the world, but it is different if you are a dad buying a meal for mum and 2 or 3 kids; an extra 7% (or 10%) would make an unexpected inroad into the family budget for the day.

Customers  are entitled to know the full price of each item before they make their choice, and to be treated fairly. Putting the notice about the vat at the back of a large menu is really just the equivalent of a ‘get out of jail’ card, which is there for the benefit of the restaurant and not the customer.

I did not see any farang working there, only young Thais, so it was not clear who was in charge.

  12. Another place that you could try is the Ritza Restaurant. It says that its bread is made fresh every day.

    Directions:

Going from Bluport, on Phetkasem Road, heading south towards Pranburi, where the main road forks, take the left hand lane going towards Khao Tokiab.

You will pass the Ibis hotel on your left, and Sarneys on your right. You then go past the entrance to the temple on your right. A couple of blocks further on you will see the Ritza Restaurant on your right. It is set back from the road, behind some trees, but it is a large building in yellow and black, so it is easy to spot. There is a small car park on the right hand side of the building.

    opening times: 7am - 8pm every day.

    Paris Bakery soi 102:

Secondly, are you going to give Paris Bakery in soi 102 a second chance? On your last visit, you reported that all the large baguettes had already been booked out to their regular customers, because it was the last day before their 9 day staff holiday. They are now open again. I would be interested to know what you think of the bread you were not able to try on the day of your visit. (Closed Thursdays).

Think there needs to be some clarification.

A 35 year old British man was stabbed when walking with his Thai girlfriend from their vehicle to a restaurant.    The unidentified person who stabbed him was a teenager.   The woman's ex boyfriend, who has had altercations with her present boyfriend, is currently in Dubai, and she believes that the teenager was hired by the ex boyfriend to carry out the assault.

I think he’s (i.e. pagallim) the only one who took the trouble to click on the link and read the original article, which includes the following comment:

“However Ms Sudarat has confirmed to police that the suspect was not her ex-boyfriend as he is in Dubai. She alleged that he might have hired someone to attack the man.”

But ThaiVisa is still welcome to hire him. Would save the rest of us a lot of time and effort reading the full story.
