Packages approved to attract big spending foreign tourists to Thailand

Thai Media reported that the TAT are proposing special packages designed to attract well-heeled foreign tourists.

These include promotions in Alternative State Quarantine facilities along the lines of buy two nights get one free.

A meeting of the Covid steering committee CCSA'a economic arm was presided over by Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha.

They approved the TAT's plans for stimulating tourism and promoting new measures to attract Elite card holders.

TAT governor Yutthasak Suphasorn hopes to get 2,000 foreign tourists to visit Thailand a month from December to the end of March with a one stop package shop organised by his teams, Thai Airways and hoteliers in collaboration with government ministries and departments.

Tourists will be able to book air tickets, hotels and get their visas sorted just by going to the TAT website.

Three imaginative packages are on offer:

1. Pay for two nights in quarantine in Bangkok and your third is absolutely free.
2. Pay for two and get one free in Bangkok PLUS road transport to another hotel later.
3. Pay for three nights and get TWO free PLUS air transport to another destination.

All this will mean tourists will be spending 200 million baht a month and Yutthasak said the promotion budget is only 20 million.

Plans for an upgrade to the Elite card system also met with approval.

Under the "Elite Flexible Program - Flex plus" all an investor has to do is invest $US 1 million (around 31 million baht) in property, companies or stocks for five years and they get a work permit once the treasury and employment department are provided with the evidence.

This applies to Elite cards costing 1 million baht for five years.

It really is that simple.

This will bring in 30 billion baht as there are 2,000 people who want to do it reported Bangkok Biz News.

TAT is finding it extremely difficult to "Lure" tourists to Thailand.

Do Thailand even understand what "well-heeled" means?

"Pay for two nights in quarantine in Bangkok and your third is absolutely free."

It's tiring reading the same uninformed, useless brain farts that these retards come up with on a daily basis.

Why not just give "Free small French fries when you order a Big Mac". Same effect. Zero.

silly question but..

did any of these idiots actually ask why someone would invest 31M to get a document that any backstreet lawyer could easily set up for 50K baht??!

In the meantime there are so many options to visit Thailand and TAT does so much. But what still bothers me - you don't get free masks. Not a single word about this.

Even The Fiendish minds and plots of Dr. <deleted> Manchu couldn't come up with such  cockamamie ideas to bring tourists in...

I called a wealthy friend of mine back in the old country, asking him whether he might be interested in visiting Thailand. The tourism body had announced some fantastic packages, I said. "For instance, for every 2 quarantine nights in a classy hotel you get 1 night free of charge. For the compulsory 14 days quarantine that would work out to a maximum of 3 free nights. Enticing, isn't it...?"

His laconic reply was: "Are you crazy?"

Rich tourists will be breaking down the barricades to get at irresistable deals like this! ????

Somebody must really love this idea/fantasy of high end tourism.  Restarting Thai tourism based on a new version of Bhutan style, hi so, low numbers, model. Bureaucrats and agencies are competing to pitch the most appealing dream-vision of a new tourism. How this would help the large numbers of small timers and niche jobs destroyed by tourisms implosion ( by wuhan), is never explained, but as these are societies lower strata, no need to. Meanwhile, you can almost see the high end, club med types, at basket weaving events, rumwong dance classes.

The target at the moment is a paltry 1,000 a month and they reached 681 probably including some business people. Now with this magical package they think that they can get 2,000 a month. The bureaucracy and paperwork required to come here is too much already and who wants to spend their first week locked up in an expensive hotel room and the second week confined to the hotel grounds.

TAT doesn't understand the meaning of travel bubble arrangements between countries with very low rates of covid19. Remove the restrictions on these countries apart from pre flight covid19 tests and by all means do covid19 tests on arrival and even 5, 10 and 14 days later and then quarantine won't be necessary.

1800 baht with any job you get is the real price.

Or 0 baht with a decent company that will pay for it. ????????

Endure 14 days quarantine in Thailand -- and we'll throw in for free a 80sqm, fully-furnished condo, PLUS a 5-year multiple entry visa,

PLUS a work permit,

PLUS the local entry fee to all tourist attractions and national parks,

PLUS a complimentary assistant-cum-maid-cum-lover.

Oh, and not to forget: You'll also get a "Premium Tourist" badge for your Armani suit lapel.

Now, THAT would be a deal!

More sops to the sort of people who can afford private jets..

2000/month compared to a normal high season figure of 3,000,000/month

They are talking about numbers that are less than 0.1% of normal..

Endless paranoia from TAT.

I wonder, does any of the thai journalists at these press briefings confront these deluded TAT officials?

Does any of the journalists actually say, "dude, <deleted> is wrong with you, nobody will come, as long there is quarantine"

What is this mantra, for every news comes with a forecast about how much tourists will spend?

Just to show people, they do something?

In any normal country, politicians would get called out on such outrageous claims and statistics. They would be forced to apologies and resign.

Obviously, this is not a normal country.

So, they want to create big spendings of billions of Baht by well heeled foreign tourists by giving them free mandatory jailtime to let them safe their money by this, and hope to get 2000 tourists per months with that, while keeping the borders closed for all others? ????

Their idiocy is really infinitely!

Okay, but this explains everything:

...will accomplish very little other than destroying the Thai tourist industry which is primarily funded by foreigners with average incomes seeking an economical tourist destination where their money goes further than in their home country.

Thailand must ascribe to economic theory of their own making.  Let's call it Thai Status-Conscious Economic Theory.  However that approach trips over its own feet.
Low numbers of "well-heeled quality" tourists will never come close to replacing the revenue injected into the tourist industry and Thai economy by large numbers of average earners.  But Thai elites feel "safer" catering to the foreign wealthy imho.
The wealthy are "clean."
These same people simply disdain "commoners."  To their own determent. Commoners are "dirty."

But the magnificently wealthy 0.1% of the foreign population of the world are beating on the doors to enter Thailand and shower the boutiques, Michelin restaurants, country clubs, and 20-star hotels with their billions of dollars. Everybody know that!  Who needs commoners when the billionaire class will save Thailand starting next month.  It will be simply splendid!
