Thanks, I really appreciate your creative comment. Very outspoken and intelligent.

It was neither creative, nor outspoken, as you suggest but at the very least, it was succinct and not the usual naïve, misguided, knee-jerk reaction sometimes offered by foreign residents of Thailand in the pro and anti junta camps.  You did not make a single comment that was not baseless.  Having said that, you are not alone.

Immigration should do a hair folicle test of every tourist entering the airport.

If you have consumed any drugs the Kingdom says is illegal within the past 3 years, you should be deported and blacklisted. But I do think the death penalty is a little harsh.

Provided that you are not joking, that is a little bit stupid.  No offence.  I don't think there's any need to elaborate on the reprecussions of such a policy.

Much easier to eliminate  the junkies and pot heads with

a simple urine test and deport their drugged up a** back

to their Country.  It would mean much less crime in Thailand!!

The only slight problem with an otherwise flawless plan is that the vast majority of junkies in Thailand are Thai, not foreign.  So the reduction in junkie-related crime would barely register.  Also, I don't think smoking cannabis qualifies one as a junkie.

Hi Peter, You'd probably find you'd be assigned quite a decent job, such as assisting liaising with embassies military attaches, as a uni grad with language skills beyond Thai if you took up the six-month stint. The lottery would put you in for two years. The intake is around April or May, I think.
It would also give you the opportunity to improve your Thai while clearing you of the lottery risk. That said, Samran states in a Thaivisa post from on Nov. 22, 2009, that he's aware of a Caucasian Thai who didn't read or write the language being rejected for his lack of literacy. You can find his informative and insightful post on this thread:

Hi Peter, chatette might be onto something here.  Maybe you should view it as an opportunity.

it would be interesting to see the very strong links between Rice Millers and politicians exposed, another one to look at is the fertiliser supply chain - a very crooked business from start to finish that exploits the farmers and the tax payers............time for some serious reforms

What would be even more interesting is to see the links between the Thai military and regional human trafficking networks exposed.

The police are not threatening the accused in order that they do not claim innocence!   The point you are missing about this incident is not the innocence, or otherwise, of the accused, it is that the accused are claiming that the authorities did not have a warrant for the raid (even though in the circumstances a warrant was not needed) and therefore their action was illegal.  It wasn't.

Regardless of what the law actually stipulates, what is legal and what is illegal in Thailand is entirely subject to those involved.  The hypocrisy of it all is that it is impossible to deny that elements of law enforcement and the security apparatus in Thailand have been deeply involved in the drug trade, among other illegal activities, such as human trafficking, for as long as I can remember,

You seem to be under the false impression that some people, "Hiso's / connected" [sic] in particular, automatically get bail, they don't.  They have to ask for it, as do the pot heads in this case, no difference whatsoever.   They then have to be able to meet the police/courts requirements for bail to be granted.  If the hi-sos meet the requirements they get bail, if the pot heads can meet the requirements, they get bail.

What nonsense, for the rich and connected in Thailand asking for bail is  - in the vast majority of cases - merely a formality.

My comment will probably put fire on this post...

When I drive over the speed limit, I know what I do. I take the risk to get caught and accept the consequences.

So if someone takes drugs and visits a country where the laws are very strict, that someone takes a risk and should accept what happens.if caught.

If the law in Thailand was applied across the board fairly you would have a valid point, but as this is not the case you don’t.  Jails in Thailand are for those without the money sidestep them. The fact that they needed 100 law enforcement officers to arrest a handful of backpackers for smoking a spliff beggars belief.

I don´t understand why everybody is so unhappy with this, and that there are so many negative comment about all things that are happening in Thailand. This is nothing new in the rest of the world, and most of the people complaining here comes from a country that already have a since long developed system for cyber crimes and treats to the nation. Just don´t understand. When things not happen there is complains from everone here on TV, and when something happens htere are the same complaints. Be happy that they are trying to develop a country that since long has been after in every aspect of security and enforcement of laws. Maby there is only afraid people with something to hide or an evil agenda that have negative comments. What do I know? However, Inetnet is a wide network and it must be controlled in some way because there are many people that doesn´t understand what they really can say or not can say. If everyone used common sense and realized that if you are here and live by the rules, you just have nothing to hide. As simple as that instead of just complaining over everything. Negative remarks never solved anything. That´s just for people that think of Thailand as a country that should by like for 20 years ago today. Simple fact! It´s just not going to happen.

Are you  for real?  This has to be a troll post, no one is this naïve , surely.  Either that or the junta is paying people to write defenseless gibberish on TV.

I hope you are not making a comment linking me to those rock spiders

My only trouble was having to listen to the mightier than thou group, that maybe you belong to

No of course not, I was just making a point.  How many people will tell themselves they are good people, people of good conscience etc.  I imagine Hitler probably thought he was a good person, as does your average jihadi.  I don't know even myself whether or not I'm good person.  I mean I think I am, but who am I to judge myself?  I didn't intend to say that you were a kiddie fiddler at all.  Sorry mate.

Think most people here forget about the internet,.

You don't need a bar to find a cute one,   for the night or for  life.

So why would sex tourists stop coming ? or why would all the

    ex pats leave ?

Pattaya is a great place for many other reasons, loads to do.

after you have finished for the night with your latest cute one.

Thailand will never in 100 years loose the,   love you long time image.

no matter how much veneer they use.

Well im off out  for a few chang's,     before all  the Go-Go's

massage shops and Bars close, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    yeah right :stoner:

BTW   There are bars for Thai guys as well

    in Thailand.

I don't know, I just assume the vast majority of sex-tourists wouldn't be able to meet someone that wasn't a working girl.  The same reason they can't do so in their own countries.  If there's no brothels [in whatever form they may take], then they would have scant opportunities form a relationship or even have a one-night stand with a woman [Thai or non-Thai] that wasn't a hooker.  As for ex-pats, I don't think they would leave, but the sex-pats most likely would as there'd be no reason for them to stay anymore.  They're only there for one reason.  Anyway, I am actually speaking out of turn in many ways as although I've lived in Bangkok for 10 years, I've only been to Pattaya once with a friend and we managed to last about a day and half before leaving because of the presence of so many Western degenerates.  Ii found it depressing.  But to each his own.

He probably deserved this, only some red stripes not even black bruised skin.

When my mum wanted to hit me as a kid i couldn't be bothered at all, she would hurt her hands/wrists while i wouldn't even feel it. So she had to ask my dad to punish me when he came home which was a different story.

Most (not all) people you see in Thailand who look (very) poor or make you feel sorry for them have deserved their lot...IF you're new here you might not understand their society and traditions but many things are not what they seem. I've been here long enough to see through them.

The expert on the culture and socio-economic realties of Thailand and Southeast Asia has spoken.  Let's hope he doesn't have kids.

They may as well tear it down. The current Government does not like GoGo Bars and prostitution and they are going to get rid of it. The Army is in control of Pattaya and they don't care what the prior administration did. They will tear down the beach side and eventually force out the other side. Walking street will become a place for shops and restaurants that cater to Asians and middle class Thais. Most of the Pattaya nightlife will be moved out and exist in limited numbers on side streets. Westerners will not come anymore and that is exactly what the powers to be want. Those who want to survive need to be looking for alternate locations now or sell out.

If they ever actually do it, which I doubt, with a robust marketing campaign to shake off the brothel-by-the sea-image, Westerners would surely visit Pattaya. The only people that would stop going are sex-tourists.  There would also probably be a mass exodus of resident sex-pats.

From what I saw, he smacked a grown teenage boy on the backside.

A perfectly reasonable standard of discipline. Now there are 30 kids in that class that want to learn, and one that is putting on a great show to get all the attention and stop them. A smack on the bum by hand is not going to do the trick. Acceptable places to smack in my view are arse, hand, arm , leg . Acceptable assistance with reasonable and not too much force, wooden spoon, coat hanger, teachers stick, jug cord, flip flops, ruler  ( jelly ruler is best ) and so on. All the best kids that I know, that have grown to be law abiding citizens met the above by teachers and mothers at some point. Calm down people, he smacked him on the bum one time.

"he smacked him on the bum one time".  how do you know that?  You saw part of a video, that's it.  Not that I even condone beating a kid on the bum with a bamboo stick.  If you ever tried that with my kid, you'd need a medical professional to extract that stick from your anal cavity.  It takes a brave man armed with a weapon to take on an unarmed little kid.

I agree, in my early high school days I would be at the head masters office most Monday mornings to collect 6 strokes of the cane

I cant say I liked it but it caused me no long term troubles, just taught me not to get caught doing stupid things

"it caused me no long term troubles"

That's not really for you to judge.  I expect most pedophiles don't recognize that they have "troubles"

At least i don't steal or cheat/scam, don't run into people in malls, don't cry loud in public places, don't drive against traffic, am not selfish , have good manners and don't offend other people on the internet ( like you as we all can see)...So i conclude it works to punish young boys this way.

Oh  come on everyone, he doesn't cry loud in public places! Give him a break
