    Additionally ......................

All airlines will require that an elderly person who is oxygen dependent is certified, according to individual airline rules, as being "fit to fly".

The cost of meeting the airlines demands, which may include accompanying flight trained medical staff, and the purchase of "adequate" space , may prove to be VERY expensive.

The OP would be well advised to reconsider.

Actually not now true. New rules in the US prevent an airline flying under a US flight number or from or to a US airport stopping a person flying for medical reasons. The assesment of whether the person is fit to fly or not has been returned to the person flying. In regard to oxygen use they do require a prescription giving the quantityes required.

Other countries do not have the same rule and the some of Sceptic11's comments do apply.

If they deem an attendant is required they can require you to provide one but they cannot charge for him or her.

Though US Airlines are not the best at this having just been fined several million dollars for breaching this I will put the link from their site.

Personally I feel that comming here is a lot of change for a person but that is a decision for them to make.

I am not familiar with the USA's requirements in this respect, however I believe this is still current !

Yes that is a good summary and you will note it does not require a medical clearance except for certain contageous diseases.

I will add that this applies to the US airlines and codes. It does not apply to most other countries.

Taken at random from the list !

    "Fractures And Broken Bones

Passengers may travel within three days of injury with a doctor's statement advising they are stable for air travel."

  3. There is no "system" of registration of people who are HIV positive in Thailand. There are no sanctions taken against HIV+ foreigners and plenty of them in Thailand.

As to whether people are afraid of catching it, from what I see on this board, it varies greatly by individual and not necessarily in relation to actual risk. Some people refuse to believe it could happen to them and persist in high risk behavior, some people take all reasonable precautions and obsessively worry nonetheless and most people probably fall in between these extremes

i am curious why doesn't anyone actually do something about foreigners with HIV? I mean they would be a menance to the locals wouldn't they or cos it would affect the sex industry in thailand?

What would you suggest is "done" about foreigners ?

  4. Whatever the "defect" is it probably requires a "heart-lung machine" (Bypass) to facilitate surgical correction.

I would suggest you accompany your wife when she next consults with her cardiologist/cardiac surgeon.

I am sure the situation can be explained in terms that will be understandable to you both.

  6. Thanks for the reply, but that wasn't my question, I'll rephrase:

All I need is 30 extra days between the end of my current 90 days and my departure from Thailand. I'm wondering if I can simply get an extension from immigration rather than have to do a border run.

Basically I'd much rather take a leisurely stroll down to the immigration office than go on a 9-hour minivan bumpy ride.

If you are married take your wife , marriage certificate, wife's ID card and house book to immigration and ask for a 60 day extension to visit your wife .

Be aware this may be refused if you have a valid visa .

  7. Where are you "studying" ? .........If a language "school" the best that can be hoped for is a 3 month ED visa which will only be issued against comprehensive documentation and thereafter 3 month extensions of stay ------again issued with appropriate documentation from the school.

Obtaining a new passport is not that easy if a passport is current and has adequate blank pages.

Actually, it isnt that difficult neither...
A damaged passport would get you a reason for replacement. Easy enough.

I wouldnt go with the lost/stolen passport, but that would get a new one too.

...dam_n ..I left my PP in my trouser pocket and it went thru the laundry machine.....oh dear

Exactly. Or you can drop it in a muddy puddle OR LOST IN THE MAIL or whatever. Getting very tired of all the " I am an expert visa advise" on here. I think I'm an expert now by second guessing most posts on TVF. just a couple days ago there were several people just spuuuuuuuing BS about loas being okay for back to back tourist visas. I commented that it was NOT a perfect science and then told I was wrong. Any American can get a new passport. It is your right, don't listen to the BS.

    You are correct!

They will always give you a one way "return" home travel document whilst fraudulent and possibly criminal behavior is investigated.

  9. First off! never marry a Thai woman! Unless you know her family and like what you see, You are sure she didn't come from or ever work at a bar. absolute sure! Any doubt , have fun and get out. Don't be a stupid farang unless you don't give a shit about your life.

Never marry a thai woman? so malaysian or others are ok? unless you know her family? No she has never worked at a bar,i met her in Australia where she has had a Restaurant for 20 plus years.absolute sure.no doubt...I do not consider myself a stupid Farang as you mention,18 plus years i thought i knew her well enough to make a life with her in Thailand.

I do give a shit about my life, that is why i posted on here.

But ! .......In reality there is little concern for the lady !

What a pig ignorant and selfish post !

Can someone advise this lady to take her case to an Australian court ------------this "person" would then learn about humility and "rights"

How,pray tell is an Ozzy court going to help in this situation.Personally i think macca is being quite reasonable, and bearing up with some humour.Understandably he trusted his gf after 15 years, but life changes.Whats the bet,new Thai bf rolls his ex over and she then wants forgiveness. These Thai casanovas are everywhere and will toss her pretty quick, once he has bled her dry.

An Australian court can take all assets (worldwide) into consideration when arriving at a "fair" decision.

The a***hole may escape with a few cents judging by the projected attitude.

It will get even less in Thailand !

  10. Just move into an old house. Has a 4.5kW water heater. Whenever we turn on the water heater, our bedroom's lights will go dim. Went up into the attic and discovered that the water heater is using the same wire from the panel as the bedroom's lights & outlets. The wire is 2x2.5mm. The fuse at the panel is CEO MCB-63 C16. Does that mean it's a 16A fuse? Is it too small for the water heater?

STOP using that shower until the electrics are sorted !

  11. Latest gossip is that caretaker government will be using GSB (government savings bank) cash to quickly pay farmers. I just checked their year statement. At the end of 2012 they had a little over 30 billion in cash with a total equity of 130 billion. So, there is a big risk of a bank run if ptp intends to take more than 20 billion out, as at that point depositors money would start to being used, of which there is not that much available, as it already nearly all had been lent out.

    Going out with a bang?...

Latest news from my wife ---------the protesters intend closing down the GSB to prevent the alleged attempt at abusing the banks funds.

  13. Personally I never agreed with the rice subsidy from the start - just like the ec farm subsidies, the us farm subsidies, or the aus purchasing schemes (wheat board, wool board) in the past.

But if the farmers are pissed off - ask the EC which has denied payment by the caretaker government under fears it would bias the election - despite the fact the payment commitments were made *before* the parliament was dissolved.

The EC denied the government the ability to borrow more money, they never stipulated that the farmers could not be paid. The reason they could not be paid was because the government doesn't have the money due to financial mismanagement that occurred well before parliament was dissolved.

Is that a polite way of speaking about rampant corruption ?

  14. I've made Beef Wellington from Australian grass-fed beef tenderloin, available here in Central Food Hall, in Bangkok. Don't Central supply it up there too? Caesar Salad is a regular on our menu at home here, (usually with slices of cold steamed chicken). Both quite easy to make, if you can cook. (And I hope I'm not being smart-arsed here, it's just that I prefer to cook at home most of the time, when I know the ingredients are good.)

Beef wellington "quick " to make ? Must be another yank that thinks beef wellington originates from Mcd's !

    And ---------who "tosses table-side"

  15. Alex, if you really love Thailand, I would suggest considering an online/distance PGCE from a uni in your country while you work in Thailand because sooner or later (probably sooner) a postgrad or Bachelor's in Education will be required here. Also this will open up the doors to higher level and higher paid work (though not necessarily more personally rewarding).

You will be able to find work here with your current qualifications while you do the PGCE or equivalent.

That's my plan. That's why I am hoping the provisional permit will still be available as I would like to live and work in Thailand while I complete my study and become fully qualified and then when the time comes to apply for a proper teaching permit then I will have a teaching degree plus experience as required.

Sounds like a good plan. I don't know how long you've been observing this forum, but, as you can see, there's a huge amount of personal angst here dressed up as "the best for the kids" or "we're trying to advise the Thai MoE". The best way to avoid this angst is to get qualified: the professional world is getting more competitive every day in Thailand, and everywhere else for that matter, and it will continue to do so.

There may well be NES conversational assistant roles in the future, and it's a great option for retirees wanting an alternative to daytime tv (or daytime TV), or younger people trying to extend their stay here, but it's not a career option, never has been, never will be.

A sensible , well considered post ------------it was a long time in the making ! smile.png

    Thank you

  16. I told her it is very dangerous, and if she goes there she will be making me unnecessarily worried for her safety. I told her if she still decides to go, she obviously doesn't care about me and I will dump her. Don't think she is happy but it worked!
