  1. There are some dreadful people posting here ! xsick.gif.pagespeed.ic.MPO6H9qvs0.webp

My wife (a Thai lady) and I help disadvantaged girls/women. We provide free help with reading/ writing /speaking both in Thai and English, assistance with arithmetic , managing money, and sexual health matters.

We have 23 ladies who visit our house twice a week ------these are people who are keen to learn and improve their lives ------ Many more wish to get on the "course" but we have limited space.

Some need to look at themselves and be ashamed.

No need for a supermarket, go to French-biased Vientiane for instance and see what is available there in the shops. I love the Issan, but I also love Lao for its Farang restaurants/food and its very friendly people indeed.

    @ubonjoe

I was in my last 15 permitted days to stay of my already expired previous Non-O-Visa and I secured those til their very end by a re-entry permit (done just after the Non-O had expired) in order to return to Thailand and extend that previous Non-O-Visa by a further 60 days based on my wife and in company of her to be done at any immigration office in Thailand.

If Savannakhet would not have worked, my plan was to extend as above, then switch to an extension based on retirement by an income letter that I had to get first.

I prefer however my present situation with the Non-O-Visa for reasons already mentioned.

    My head is spinning.

You have to go through all this grief every year for the rest of your life?

No,but the other option is WORST: tell all your life, be victim of a police interview and show the photos of your room, bed and dirty sheets after crazy night.

Which option do you prefer ?

For me I will enjoy a trip abroad until the rest of my life if necessary instead of giving any private information to people who should be grateful that I stay and spend millions in their country every year !

Spends Millions EVERY year ! ...........smile.png BUT --------------------

Runs to Savannakhet for a "no show money " visa which requires an exit from country every 90 days ?

    Makes sense !

  3. I'm British and live in Bangkok. I'm wondering what Thai law says about killing a burglar. If I wake up and a stranger is in my house, then he's going down. I just want to know how far O can go.

Unless it is you who "goes down" smile.png

  4. Very detailed and helpful I am sure. A question: why do you not apply for an extension of stay based on Thai Wife and save the trip to Laos (although it may be enjoyable?)

Good question, I don’t have to season money in a Thai savings bank account or get an income letter from my embassy in Bangkok that also costs me some twelve hundred baht.

Then the way I travel (multiple entries and exits) not only within Asia but also from and to Europe the Multiple Non-O-Visa comes very handy and is moreover cost effective, or not?

And I live in deep Issan where Farang food stores are not to be found within vicinity and where a food trip to Lao is much more convenient and shorter than going to Bankok or Pattaya, etc. etc.

Where are the "Farang Food" supermarkets to be found in Laos ?

  5. 1 million baht cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif alt=cheesy.gif pagespeed_url_hash=3951237149 width=32 height=20> Commom that is way too much Even weathly dont expect that. 400,000 or 500,00o tops And to tell you the truth

You are falang and really should pay nothing for sin sod. But keep the faith. They see farang as rich in comparison to Thai and will take advantage of it regardless of the Education

I am with a Thai lady now for 6 years and she has a university degree No sin sod and I was married to a Thai lady for 12 years now divorced and no sin sod

You are giving her a great opportunity to marry you and her parents know this. They know you will make a good husband for their daughter.

I know she wants a million but cut it in half Not realistic my friend and I have lived here for 14 years and speak Thai and know what they woman do here

Be realistic and think with your head

    (between your shoulders)

    1 million baht !

Should be no problem for an independently wealthy, retired ,40+ year old "consultant" ! smile.png

  6. Interesting.

I wonder on what basis the OP is staying in Thailand? There are very few legitimate means for someone in their 40's who is unmarried and not working to remain in country long term.

If I was this educated ladies Dad I would ask some very searching questions !

Hmmm, I disagree with your statement, "very few legitimate means for someone in their 40's who is unmarried and not working to remain in country long term".

I 'm in my 40's and not working in Thailand, but I still have a steady income from previous work and investments whilst in OZ,

As for 1,000,000 for sinsod it's ok as the amount for a higher educated woman from a good family go up the better social status of the woman and family, same as a regular worker or famer the sinsod is lower. but yes I do think the farther has the right to know you are financially stable to take care of his daughter.

    cheers good luckthumbsup.gif width=25 alt=thumbsup.gif pagespeed_url_hash=1443177670>

Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain which visa permits you to remain in Thailand ?

  7. Thank you @wayned,

I understand I can just do a standard Laos Visa run for a standard tourist visa, like I used to do before I started with the ED-Visa.

A double Visa is 60+30 (extended at immigration) and then I need to do another run (Cambodia probably is closet from Pattaya) and there I change the Tourist Visa to a Non-O, which probably gives me then again 60+30 and after (well before) that I arrange for my Retirement Visa.

Question: Does Cambodia convert a tourist visa to Non-O and if yes, what are the costs for that?

Or is it better I just get a Non-O directly at Vientiane/Laos, which I know also is possible?

I need at least 60+30 or 60+60 days time to get to the age of 50, since my current ED-Visa runs out beginning February and my birthday is end April.

"Or, you could get a double entry Tourist visa, do a border run at the end of 60 days , convert that to a Non-O and extend that for 1 year near the end of the permission to stay."

What @wayned was suggesting is that a double entry tourist visa is obtained. The first entry will provide a 60 day stay toward the end of that time leaving the country and returning will activate the second permitted entry again giving 60 days!

During the second 60 day stay the tourist visa can be converted at a Thai Immigration office to a Non "O" entry for the purpose of retirement. This conversion will permit a stay of 90 days. After 60 days an extension of stay can be applied for again at Immigration.

You will need to ensure you meet the financial requirements for both the "conversion" and the extension of stay.

  8. I'm not going to speculate on why things have changed but certain consulates were always more popular than others.

In Asia there are 'farang visa' hotspots that crop up from time to time. When you visit Pattaya or Phuket you have to ask how are these expats living and working here? On what visa?

The Thai visa system is like the London Underground. Easy to navigate if you know your way around.

Many may be flying "under the radar" !smile.png

The visa system is easy for those who meet the requirements !

  9. A Non "O" multi entry visa only allows 90 day entries even if valid for one year. You must leave the country every 90 days. Re-entry will give another 90 days whilst the visa remains valid.

Exiting/re-entering just prior to the visas expiry date will again give another 90 days.

Used wisely such a visa will give up to 15 months stay in Thailand.

A "change of visa" is not possible but, if you can meet the requirements, a 12 month extension of stay could be applied for .

  10. I'm not sure how the consulates are funded but I suspect a lot of their income came from postal applications. Hull for example does not have a huge population or catchment area. With the removal of postal applications will they still be viable?

The other problem is the increased demand on the switchboard at the Thai Embassy in London. I've never found them consumer friendly and trying to contact them over the last few days has been impossible.

I suspect this move has come about by people trying to cheat the system.

Multi entry non immigrant 'o' visas based on marriage are just glorified tourist visa's that still require the bearer to leave the kingdom every 90 days.

I think some people here are mixing them up with retirement visa's for which income details are required.

Hull was always known to be "friendly" and very few (if any) questions where asked of visa applicants.

This has resulted in a massive " crackdown" which has affected all UK Hon Consulates.

As always the misdeeds of the few affect the majority .

  11. Wow, it just seems like such a logistical pain to be required to leave the country every 90 days, although, I suppose if one was close to the border, it would not be a big deal.

There are different rules for that as well, as I understand it. If you leave and come back by land you only get a new 14 day visa rather than another 30 day visitor visa.

If you do it by air (plane) you get a 30 day visa.

If you do it to Laos you need to get photos made and pay for a visa to go to Laos, even if for just a day.

No "visas" are available at borders or airports except for citizens of a few countries which qualify for a "visa on arrival"

For citizens of all other counties a 30 day "visa exempt" entry is available if arriving by air. For those entering Thailand via a land border, if a citizen of a G7 country , a 30 day "visa exempt" entry is given. For all others a 15 day "visa" exempt entry is available.

If planning an extended stay in Thailand it is advisable to obtain the required visa prior to leaving home.
