  1. Self prescribing antibiotics is always a bad idea.

Only rarely indicated for sinus /"windpipe infections" !

Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic there are others belonging to the same family.

Ive had this problem for years and after seeing several British doctors self prescribing is a far better option.

Any ideas on what the drug could have been.

    No idea!

If I did know I would not divulge the information.

Go and consult a doctor if you believe you have infected sinuses or windpipe smile.png

  2. If sinbin gains relief from migraine by using acupuncture then I am pleased.

Whilst generally opposing "alternative" medicine for making gross and unsubstantiated claims some do in fact gain relief from simple , unproven, "cures" such as homeopathy and acupuncture.

  3. You can fly out and back on same day and get a new 30 day visa exempt entry. You can do this as many times as you want or can afford it. A better option is to get a tourist visa that gives you a 60 day entry that can be extended at immigration for 30 days. You can get a 2 entry visa in Vientiane Laos that would give you almost 6 months total stay with just one trip out and back.

so Immigration no longer enforce the 180/365 days per year maximum for visa (exemptions) arrivals at the airport - thats good news

i remember a not so polite Immigration Official at Mae Sai spending 10 minutes trying to figure out the number of days I had spent wrt 180/365 days - I could have assisted her (i keep a summary) but she was needlessly impolite towards me

There is a reason for the 180/365 rule, if you stay in Thailand longer you are liable for tax in Thailand.

There is no 180/365 "rule" !

I have stayed in Thailand for years and quite legally pay no tax!

  4. as far as i understand its laying a thick plastic sheet on

ground then pouring concerete on it, this will stop moisture

rising up. it seems to be critical that theres some moisture

    in that floor

entertainment? this, if you put it into practice could cure your

chronic ailments-if you have any. molto serioso!

Sorry, no Chronic ailments and if there were they for sure would not be helped by silly rivets or grounding .

    Time to stop trolling

    Bye

  5. I was planning on getting an Indian visa while in Chiang Mai (here now), but the consul is being so difficult about it that I think I'll go to Bangkok to apply.

    - "We don't like those who aren't residents of Thailand applying for visas here, they should do it in their own country."

    - "We need a signed letter (hard copy) from the place you will be staying confirming such."

    - "if you are talking to Tibetans while in India you may be suspected of spying."

    You were warned !

Visas to India are not easy to obtain if outside your own country,

Your best chance now is at the BKK Indian Embassy but do not expect a quick decison

  6. You will not enter with a Visa !

You will receive a 30 day "visa exempt entry " if your airline is willing to board you in the absence of a confirmed flight out of country within that 30 days.

If you succeed in arriving without a visa you will be granted a 30 day visa exempt entry .

You can then apply for a conversion to a NON "O" visa if you meet the requirements.

An extension of stay may then be possible if the requirements are met.

  7. As the OP has asked where can he buy copper rivits . The first place I would look is China Town, there are a lot of copper suppliers and workshops with lathes.

I feel it would be difficult to get a good contection to the earth living in a concrete jungle but the idea of connecting yourself to the ground rod could work.

according to long term users, cement/concrete is as good

as bare earth as long as it hasnt been insulated

    asphalt will not ground you

next time i go bkk i ll check out chinatown

    How does one insulate concrete?

Nice to know asphalt is no good !

This thread is indeed good entertainment smile.png

  8. following my earlier comments and my concerns about my extention of stay (visa renewal?) i am pleased to say that my wife and i received our extention from jomtein today wthout any questions or queries. we are very pleased.

i have to remark that some of the comments on this site about this subject have been unhelpful and rather nasty. dont you like each other?

What extension did you each receive ? Exactly ?

  9. "oops I've been going to wrong place all these years both in BKK and Issan since ice been going to immigration office for last 8-10 years to get my retirement visa renewed." (sic)

    Really ?

    -

Can you scan one or two of these "visas renewals" to show those of us who have just been getting "Extensions of stay "

We have all clearly been given the wrong stamp !

This anomaly must be stopped ------------!

  10. I didn't know you could transfer money here and keep it in your local currency. My bank (credit union) told me they had to convert my USD into THB as K Bank wouldn't accept incoming funds in any form other than THB. Of course my credit union got a cut from the conversion. I guess I got suckered.

It is possible to hold funds in a foreign currency account in Thailand. Ask your bank for detail.

  11. Thanks for the very fast replies.

Money> I did not make my point clear. I will transfer a sum from abroad into my Thai bank account. This will be in US $ and the account is in US $ (simply adding more funds to the existing ones). As the bank's own exchange rate cannot compete with other institutions, say Superrich, I was thinking of doing the exchange there. Thus, getting the money from the bank to Superrich makes me worry, and then of course back to the bank with the best time deposit rate for an account with 800.000 bath.

The bank (Krungsri) will certify that I had that incoming funds from the transfer as they know me for years and the lady in the foreign currency deposit department is simply very nice and most polite.

From the above I gather that I start moving on the change of visa to non-immigrant during the first 60 days right away and dont go for the 1 month extension - as the 60 days are no necessary on first application. Is that correct? Sorry for asking the perhaps obvious but just to be sure.

`So let me try to understand the logic here.

Withdraw a chunk of money from bank in dollars. Take the dollars to a money changer. Return to the bank with lots of Bht.

    You have a forensic trail?

Or does the whole process look like money laundering ?

  12. Let us address the issue of cash first. You may have to prove the source of funds and changing money at Superrich will not do that.

You would be better advised to seek a change of visa status during the validity of your tourist visa. You will have to demonstrate the source of funds.

If you are undecided where you wish to settle maybe you have not spent enough time in Thailand.

Of course moving is possible but you will need to deal with the "hassle factor!

  13. Unless the rules have changed you have always had to have a non immigrate visa to get a driving licence, so being on a tourist visa would be no good, technically as you would have to leave the country every 3 months (60 day tourist visa + 30 day extension) you would not really need to have a Thai licence. As has been said you can get a letter from your embassy but they do charge a fair bit for it and it would be of know use to you. This is one of the silly Things in Thailand you can register a Motor cycle/car on a Tourist visa but not get a Thai driving licence.

Wrong. You can get a 1 year license on a tourist visa..

Agreed done that! ---------A few years ago now but at the time no problem.

  14. Thank you, KhunBENQ, for posting a photo of the attestation issued by the Austrian consulate in Pattaya to a German national regarding his pension income. Now we know at least one consulate the former British consul in Pattaya meant when he said "It is an open secret which other European consulates in Pattaya will do the substitution for a fee but Brits can easily find out by asking friends or their local friendly visa agent." This saves the readers of this forum from asking around.

The EU is a giant bureaucratic <deleted>. !

When I need a confirmation of income I will use the British Embassy.

  15. What if the one spouse is younger than 50 years old?

No extension would be possible unless there was some exception allowed.

    Joe

What happened to the concept of "dependency" ?

I have not seen/heard of any changes which would prevent an application

from a wife/child of a retiree for an extension based being a dependent.

Have you not read the other topic where it is stated they are eliminating dependent extensions for retirement.

I have read the thread but have seen no "official" confirmation !

This I believe is what the "rules" say in relation to those granted extension for retirement.
