  1. This has been done to death. Just go to the airport. I have not heard of anyone who is at the airport with a plane ticket who hasn't simply had to pay the fine and been allowed to leave.

Clearly it hasn't been. As someone who doesn't have any experience or acquaintances in this matter a simple question seemed appropriate and potentially very helpful.

As it turns out, the rest of your comment was accurate and would have been very helpful if you hadn't preceded it with the unneccesary bitchy comment at the start.

In fact the question of "overstay" is frequently raised here as a search would have revealed.

In your case I suspect if you arrive at the airport, in good time, with enough cash and ticket out that will be the end of the matter.

  2. It is extremely unlikely that the USA was responsible for the "blacklisting" .

However I would not be surprised if Thailand did , in fact, blacklist you following conviction and the Thai authorities may have shared information about a convicted drug trafficker with other countries.

    Hence your "problem"

I would suggest trying a drug friendly country like Indonesia !smile.png

  3. No and No are the answers to your questions.

    1) You must apply to Thai Immigtration in the area where you live.

    2) 30 (in some areas 45) days before your permission to stay expiry are the max normally.

ok, so I can and must submit my extension of stay in phuket ? is there an immigration bureau in phuket ? or do I submit it at a different office.

There are only two immigration offices in Phuket !

  4. Many so called volunteering / non-profit organizations are there also fo allow their founders and officers a free stay and some money. Unlike the volunteers that are demanded payments beside work. In no case you will be issued a work permit and the terms for your legal stay will be strict, unfair and bureocratic just as for anybody else that is not a millionaire.

Suspect this closer to the truth than some will care to admit.

  5. As a matter of interest how did your company "transfer" a visa ?

I received a 90 day single non-IMM B Visa in September. As I was on my last page I applied for a new passport after arrival in Thailand. My company had to first transfer my visa into my new passport before immigration proceeded to provide me with a 2 year extension of stay. Not sure if this is normal but it was the second time I had to do this. The first time in 2006 when my passport expired. Immigration transferred my extension of stay onto the new passport.

The company needed to apply. The immigration proceeded. Sorry if it could have been understood differently.

I asked because "visas" are never transferred !

Maybe there is some "confusion" here !smile.png

  6. "Hi all,

I am wondering if the self-administered oral HIV test kit Oraquick is available to buy anywhere in LOS? It's the one recently approved by the FDA in America. I don't mind the cost since I only want a couple of units. I would also like to buy with some peace of mind that it's not a 'fake', so perhaps a hospital or well known clinic?"

The only possible reason for asking is that the OP believes that s/he or a "Friend" has been exposed to risk.

If that is the case then the OP would be well advised to seek advise from the Red Cross Anonymous clinic .

No self testing kits available in Thailand.

  8. When you say prospects..do you mean their likeliness of advancing in work or opportunities in life? Or do you mean their effective English skills? I personally feel every person is unique, some may run with it and move to a city or town and seek a better education or employment. Others might stay close to home and family. The fact these children are getting an education greatly appreciates their prospects in life.

I do not intend to enter into a big debate.

Clearly you are ignorant about many issues affecting the Akha people .

When or if you arrive I will be delighted to hear from you about the Akha people who are fluent readers/writers and speakers of English ! I would also be interested to learn about the other educational achievements which have improved these peoples lives.

The Akha are , among others, a very disadvantaged people with few if any rights. The Canadian Inuit are an advantaged people in comparison.

A few "free" English lessons will do nothing to improve these peoples lives.

Come back to me when you have a full grasp of the issues and then it may be possible to have a discussion.

  9. don't know all the facts. So, C.

can get lawyer. BKK. trustworthy, reasonable.

i did overstay. there were health issues in new family. 33 days. paid the max. fine in baht from airport, Suvarnbhumi, atm's. Was escorted.

they took my word as reason for overstay. which was true. low drama. just pay money, cash -baht. receipt. passport stamp. bon voyage.

This is a relatively minor case of over stay.

NO need for lawyers or indeed any other drama!

  10. Thanks for the link.

I note how expensive the courses are and how little is said about "government" or other support of this organisation.

However, I am sure you have done your research and are happy with what is being offered.

Do not forget any work in Thailand requires a work permit. Penalties for working illegally can be severe.

You might also ask if any of the Akha students have progressed to futher or higher education in Thailand or have secured even a basic trade qualification .

    Best wishes
