  1. She could have changed strategy I.e. renting out for 3 months...

I think this lady was a property agent, and not a landlady. Terms of lease would be determined by the property owners. She closed shop due to a lack of demand for rentals.

Or maybe she wasn't very good at her job.

I rather think she must have had only one single property in portfolio, which was probably badly located.

Nope, multiple units in prime location in view talay 6 . No renters for 6 months straight.

  2. "I'm trying to find info on the new building going up next to VT6. Looks like it will block the sea view side of VT6."

Did anyone really imagine that the units on that side of VT6 would keep their view forever? I discounted that building after seeing it for the first time.

I suppose it isn't written in stone that whatever gets built on the empty plot has to be a high-rise, but it seems more than likely.

Maybe this topic should be in the Pattaya forum rather than Real Estate?

There was always hope that the new building might be a low rise night market or something. I just saw the plans and looks loke the new building will be a total eclipse.

  3. This is a good thing.

Get a work permit and work visa. Pay your bloody taxes. Then you'll have no problem.

This visa run thing has gone on long enough. One of the good things that will come out of this is we will have less 'teachers' now. We really don't need all this riff raff 'teachers' whose only qualification is speaking the language and being white. High time this country hired real English teachers.

If they want real teachers they will have to pay real salaries.

There are real teaching jobs in Thailand. I know a guy who made about $60k per year teaching English. Of course he was a real teacher though :)

  4. My condo has free cable and the internet can be purchased by the day or month. Usually I use my phone as a hotspot and get unlimited internet through AIS. I turn the water off and trip the breakers to the A/C and water heater. The cost to run the refrigerator is next to nothing, keeps my beer cold for when I return.

Your bldg must be pretty cool, I turned off my AirCon, came back a month later and had to throw out most of my clothes - mold had set in because it was so hot & humid in there..........the bldg manager ordered new curtains and tried to make me pay for them as well, I paid half since it was my fault. Don't turn off your aircon, just turn it down to about 25.......and suck it up.thumbsup.gif

thanks for the tip. So how much are you paying monthly to run it at minimum like that?

  5. I know my initial interest in Thailand was that of an exotic, beautiful, laid back but somewhat wild country that did not follow so many conventional laws that the west does. Just wonder if they change too much how many people will start looking at alternatives.

Welcome to Thailand. This is all part of the wild charm. Rules that exist one day and the next day not!

  6. Jealousy is at the root of the post you replied to.

Some guys just can't believe that there are self-made wealthy people under the age of 50.

I bought a house when I was twenty-two for £29,000 and sold it twenty three years later mortgage free for £215,000.

    It was easy.

    I have several more.

    That was easy too.

I had the bottle to have a go.

The bitter people are those that didn't have the bottle.

Now I have a cyber income larger than any state pension I've ever heard of.

I have an income from my company that would compete or beat any oil trade worker.

And I have my rental income from properties. I am not alone.

10% of the British population are now millionaires.

It's at the point now that if you worked all your life in the UK and can't front the money for your retirement visa you should be ashamed of yourself.

If you're that financially well off, I would consider getting an investment Visa. Just hold 10mil baht worth of government bonds for 3 years. It's a legitimate investment and I would consider it a pretty good option. Buy some government bonds and they pay you to live in Thailand. Not a bad deal!

This may be a ways off, but I also expect them to lower the requirement at some point as money flees the country and they need to attract new money.

When the Thais decide that they need foreign money this is will be much lower hanging fruit than opening the floodgates for illegal tourists with very little money.

  8. As the news of this spreads, more and more people will likely put of trips here as the confusion reigns.

    ^I seriously doubt this.

What it will do however is stop these people that have exploited a system that was not strictly enforced as it should have been. I support it 100%. I am glad those multi visa runners were displaced. I doubt they will be let back in from the airport

Either you are a tourist occasionally or you live here with a retirement, Marriage or Work visa.

I expect more borders to follow suit soon.

How about u are rich and young and not married?

    What kind of visa please?

Investment visa. You need to invest 10 million baht in property or government bonds.
