    thaiprepaid gives really bad rates. 4.99 USD if you are registered member for just 100bht. That's a rip off. If you're a non member you have to pay 5.99 USD.

    I used mobile recharge and they had service charges on top of the bad exchange rates.

    It seems so easy for any German speaker but almost impossible for anyone else.

  3. Does anybody know if they charge foreigners a higher price than Thais on their Ferris Wheel, I know they did at first then, after a bit of an outcry, charged everyone the same, but I've heard they gave gone back to double charging.

    Yes they do. an extra 50 bht for foreigners. It wasn't shown on the sign though but i was with 2 thai female frens and she told me it was 200 bht for her and her sister but wanted me to pay for them which i didn't but i trust she is correct.

Fukkinese has also been referred to as taiwanese dialect but let's be honest about it the taiwanese chinese that speak that dialect used to come from the fukien region of china and not all fukkinese people are located in taiwan or china but all over the world especially in the south east asian region. There is also a difference in northern fukkiense called foo chow and southern fukkienese called hokkien.

    Starting from the numbering system.

    Thai:

    0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

    soon, neung, song, sum, see, ha, hok, jet, pet, gao

    Hokkien:

    Kong, yeo, yee, sar, see, gor, luck, qik, peua, gao.

    One thing of note is that i think for all chinese dialects or rather southern chinese dialects the number 3 and 4 sound the same just like the thai language, sum and see. Notice how the number 9 probably sounds similar too which is gao.

    Totally agree Snake! If you can speak Italian, then you'll pretty much understand Spanish too and Portuguese to a lesser extent. I lived in all three countries during my long career and although it was difficult to begin with, I loved when I was able to speak Italian The other two were then a walk in the park. I also agree that Singapore will be the tops in ASEAN, but no surprise there really.

    In ASEAN, English will of course be the communicating language - ask yourselves why Singapore and Hong Hong have become the successes that they are? (they can communicate with the rest of the world - and thus also attract the cream of expat society)!!!!

    If it (Thai) had contributed anything to civilisation (like Greek or Latin) or had some renowned literature (like Chinese) then maybe there would be a reasonable excuse for its continued use - but for God's sake, not even a space between words in its written form.

    To be honest the language of communication between citizens of ASEAN nations is english and not a language from around the region. This is different from say the middle east or latin america where arabic and spanish and not english are the lingua franca for the different countries in those respective regions.

    Some thai people actually speak better mandarin or a chinese dialect better than english because chinese dialects are in some ways similar to thai.

    In regards to the written script and no spaces i have a thai fren that writes to me in thai script and it's good that i have an electronic dict on my iphone but it's a pain sometimes to have to use the dict sometimes.

    In regards to the spoken languages of europeans here's the part that is deceptive. Some of them will be boasting how they can speak a number of languages that not many people can accomplish like 4 and above and it sounds really impressive until you find out that these languages are so similar like the romance languages. Spanish, portugese, french, italian are quite similar and knowing how to speak 4 of them isn't as impressive as knowing how to speak 4 languages from totally different family trees. The problem is that some people get every defensive about this if you bring this up.

  7. Lived here and there....and compared to Jamaica this place is paradise. For this region Thailand for me is the best option. Live near Vientiane and go there often....now that is a real dung hole. Sort of like the Tijuana of Mexico.

    So yes the weather, the people, easy lifestyle, no big brother atmosphere, moderate cost of living, great place to raise children, not many foreigners (in my area anyways) and good food.

    Are you nuts? Jamaica is paradise it has dancehall. Have you visited the yardmen? Garrisons? Have you attended passa passa?

    It's just one example. Besides what's wrong in showcasing something as basic as sanitation to show how much more advanced a culture you would deem as inferior? It is always the most basic of things that one shows one culture is superior. Let us just assume the thais ate raw meat while you cooked yours. You would immediately jump on it like an enraged pit bull with its jaw locked unto the target refusing to let go. Would you follow the same line of reasoning that you used right here if i were to use it unto you? I could say your best example of advancement is the way you cook your food while the thais don't and i am sure you would not want to be represented in such a way you would immediately dismiss that without hesitation.

    OMG surely this has to be said in jest. I reccomend you look up the using toilet paper thread and see how far more advanced and cleaner these heathen thais are by using the jet spray as opposed to that toilet paper that just doesn't clean as well. Anyway you ignored my question on the double standards these farangs have. Rude to everyone else thinks it's perfectly fine. Someone is rude to him and goes apesh!t.

    Since this is a subject.

    I use paper.

     

    Question to you who use the spray:

    How do you dry your butt and hole after the spray? Selfdrying in the undies??

     

     

    If I were to use toilet paper all it would do is tear into very small, fine pieces and then I'd have to use the sprayer again to get it off.  Yes, I know...better quality toilet paper.  The little water left over takes almost no time to dry on the underwear.  I feel a hell of a lot cleaner than I did in the US using paper.  I'd love to bring one of those sprayers home if I ever went back.  All you need to do to control the pressure is give it it's own cut-off valve and use the valve to control the pressure.

     

     

    I have installed Thai bum guns in my home in California. After seven years in Thailand I found I couldn't do without it. And adding a cut-off valve to control the pressure works well too. On my many subsequent journeys to LOS I have brought back about 20 bum guns for friends in the US.  What's most important is to buy the very best brushed chrome--no plastic parts and small nozzle bum guns because the heads sometimes blow off the cheaper ones and we don't have drains in the floor to take away the flood in an accident. I do worry about that sometimes but I'm not giving up the bum gun and so far have been lucky. The best manufacturer I have found is VRH. Not the least expensive but worth the cost.
     

     

     

    This is what really really pisses me off about the supposed country that calls itself the best in the world? No drainage system on the bathroom floors? I used to stay in an apartment in the US and the bathroom had no drain so when i was mopping the bathroom floor i had to drain it inside the toilet. BS if you ask me.

     

    In other countries with a drainage system in the bathroom. You spray some water and everything just drains off. In the US it stays there cos there isn't any drainage system. Talk about shoddy workmanship. Yes building a drainage system in a bathroom is really really tough work not to mention how many houses in the US don't even have fences around their property or it's some ugly looking picket fence.
     

  13. I have noticed that a large proportion of men in general i guess have hair missing around the temple areas. Some females are like this too but somehow it just looks more distinctive in men. The problem is some men have this widow's peak hairline and so when they grow out their fringes and it covers the bald areas it makes it look like they are losing their fringe.

    Doesn't help that many farang men just somehow seem to be bald by the time they reach their late 20s too but honestly how can you tell?

    It's easy to tell with those that have hair missing at the top of their heads cos you can see a huge patch missing but not so for others.

Btw i think when you are in thailand and stay in hotels without the bum guns pls be careful when you're using the shower especially those with the shower hoses you can take out and hold in your hand cos if they cannot extend to the toilet area you can be sure someone is washing his arse with it inside the shower area. Yup i did that in siam bayshore.

    I agree in england and other farang countries the gang members there fight honorably and although are called gang members fight 1 to 1 or 1 to many. rolleyes.gifwhistling.gif
