This is interesting, as I just changed from an extension based on retirement to an extension based on marriage, so the 2nd extension based on marriage will be due end January.

Since I got the extension based on marriage and them coming out to take a photo with us in it and the house in the background, I have obtained the Tabien Bann (yellow book), yes went jumped through all of the hoola-hoops, and also got pink ID, just wondering if that has any weight, the immigration office in Sakon Nahkon is relatively small and the guys there are familiar with us.

If the Tabien Bann doesn't have any weight and I require a witness, will take the neighbour as she is good value for the 200 baht plus lunch that we give her for the 3 hour round trip.

Its just come to mind that I am going there early August to do my 90 day reporting, so will ask the question then and update the reply to this post for any others who go to Sakon Nakhon, that is unless someone who goes there is reading this and can answer the question for me.

Good I always ask questions with the IO when I do my 90 day. Things change here a.lot.  don't want to waste time having to do a second visit.

  2. Yes two IO came two our house a few weeks after I applied for the marriage extention. They phoned first. Took pictures and filled out more paper. Wanted know how much I had in savings back home and what my father and mother names were. They are both long gone. How long I have known my wife. That was about it. Still I was amazed at all the writing he was doing especially after all the paperwork I did when I applied. But they were pleasant.

  3. I don't understand people not keeping track of the days to report to IO. There are apps that will count down the days for you. And have no money...well maybe you go back home to earn a few bucks. Not trying to be harsh here just use some common sense.

  4. I use SCB. When first came here to work a relocation company set it up for us expats. Thinking back on it I was glad they got that done with out any hassles on my part. No problems with SCB at all.

  5. If she use FB get one with enough memory like 3 or 4 gb. FB is a memory hog. And get one with a decent battery and enough storage for all selfies and food pictures they like to take.

Samsung would be my go to phone and the new S8 is water proof to certain degree. Yes a little expensive but it will pay off in the long run when she goes to Songkran and it gets wet.?

To say that this will ruin Pattaya is an over exaggeration.

All the older Americans will remember that Vegas  used to be called sin city.

It had the moniker of an adult only location that had drinking, gambling and prostitution.  Pattaya does not have the legal gambling but it has everything else.

Toronto had the Yonge street strip with it's hookers and strip clubs that caused many people to stay away.  They cleaned it up and big businesses came and it is a big tourist location and generates more money

The challenge is that while a few bars might get a lot of money it is more favourable to have a family oriented location.

There is nothing wrong with having walking street and maybe a few little streets off the side.

What is a problem is that because of the reputation that families that have more money to spend and have kids that generate more income will stay away.

They can still have the sex and such all they are trying to do is make it more central and less obvious and less distracting.

A bar is a drinking establishment that too many farang go to get plastered and make nuisance.  The law is already set all they are doing is enforcing it.

  7. They were talking about this 10 years ago when I worked there. Had one really zealot person I worked with. My son hatd to learn how go speak Catalina as well as Spanish in school. I got him out of that class as no one speaks that language anywhere else. It's the same as Quebec wanting to seaperate from Canada. Of course that vote failed.

  8. They should have safety check stations.

Did this in my home county years ago. And if you sell the vehicle you need a safety check before a new plate is issued. That got a lot of old clunkers off the road. That car in the picture blowing smoke would be yanked off the road quickly.
