The CDC is not "empowered" to order anyone around.
But it is a widely -- and internationally - respected organization.
"Dr. Redfield informed Vice President Mike Pence and the White House coronavirus task force that the CDC will be issuing new orders on the number of days that a person who has been in direct contact with the COVID-19 virus should quarantine" as per the New York Times article. So, just sloppy journalism then.
And it would appear not much respect was shown for the CDC by the current administration at central or state level if the official US covid-19 pandemic response and the effect it has had is anything to go by.

I wonder who the CDC is empowered to order around? Or just sloppy journalism again?
Not really pertinent to any country outside of USA as it has to do with community exposure, and if those affected are not incarcerated in a secure quarantine facility it will serve no purpose at all.

How do you explain this?
COVID-19 hospitalizations soar in lockdown-free Sweden amid second wave
Coronavirus hospitalizations are surging in lockdown-eschewing Sweden as the country grapples with a second wave of the virus, data shows.
There are currently 1,004 patients being treated for the virus in the Nordic nation’s hospitals — up 60 percent from the previous week’s 627, the Guardian reported.
“We consider the situation extremely serious,” Björn Eriksson, the director of healthcare for the Stockholm region, told state media.

Ya think there's no correlation between hospitalizations and deaths?
Of course there is. However, the death rate should not be as high this time round as new treatment protocols should be in place now that more information is available about the nature of the disease and how to treat it.
Early treatment protocols where intubation was the first choice directly lead to numerous deaths that could have been prevented.

I have said it before and I have said it again, I don't understand why the reports in this forum seem to concentrate on the UK.
Why not Belgium that has the highest deaths per capita in the world? source https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
a fact that seems to have been totally ignored by the above article.
Lower deaths per capita than Spain and Italy.
Italy who everyone thought handled the crisis quickly and efficiently. It is easy to criticise and condemn governments for the way that they have handled the situation, but this is unprecedented, no matter what a government does, there will always be a better way with the benefit of hindsight.
In my opinion, the biggest problem in the Uk is many British people's refusal to wear masks and social distance. Also relying on them to self isolate just doesn't work.
Catering to an audience. Quite a few UK expats on this forum I would venture.

My first thoughts:
- Did most/all of these people have any tests before departure for Thailand.
And/or did they need/present a CEO document at check-in before boarding?
- Does this mean the aircraft (in fact many aircraft) are not being cleaned properly before passengers board?
They are not required to have a covid test before returning to Thailand.
And, as stated in the OP, most were asymptomatic so they did not even know that they were infected. This is not unusual as in the majority of cases elsewhere in the world, people with covid are either asymptomatic or only very slightly affected by this virus.

With the victory of President-elect Joe Biden from the Democratic Party, the Cambodian government hopes that the country’s United States war-time debt, which has accumulated to more than $600 million, may be cancelled by the new US administration. “When he won the election, Joe Biden gave hints that he will collect friends and ease the political tension in the world [under President Donald Trump’s administration],” said Sok Eysa, spokesman for the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).
He added: “Meanwhile, I think Cambodia’s debt [to the US] is very small. Therefore, I think there is a possibility that the US may cancel the debt or use it to help build and develop Cambodia. I think it is a good thing. This is just my view, but I don’t know what will exactly happen.” Eysan said he was not sure when asked if the new US administration would set any conditions if it does agree to cancel the debt.
It should be recalled that while busy fighting Khmer Rouge guerillas in the 1970s, the US-backed Lon Nol government was given $274 million to buy rice, wheat, oil and cotton. The current debt includes interest accrued on this original loan. When asked about the loan via email this week, a spokesman for the US Embassy in Phnom Penh declined to comment.
So, Cambodia must pay for all the carnage inflicted on it by the USA while it conducted its war on communism? Including the carpet bombing of swathes of Cambodian countryside? If I were them, I would tell the USA to take a hike..

So much for Trump's trade war with China. Now did that not backfire spectacularly.????

I finance my car with TLT (Toyota). Been their customer and this brand's customer since 2003.
Had a buyer lined up to buy my truck. All ok. They were going to finance the balance and pay me the equity. Big bundle of cash on the table. All smiles.
Not venting that I had to give 3 copies of my entire passport, 3 copies of my work permit and underwear size.
Venting because, TLT refused to start the paperwork because my visa expires Dec 25. Never mind that it is the preliminary visa where the migra wait 30 days before they stamp the other 11 months.
Talking with the finance guy was fruitless and I was just getting angrier, but did not show it. My lovely poor wife had to translate.
Here is the kicker: My paperwork was OK TO BUY A NEW CAR, not to sell it. Arai wa? I told the guy that I can buy a car with a visa that expires in 25 days and drive it to Burma, but I cannot sell the car?
No use. TLT got up and walked away. The buyers got scared and did not want to leave a deposit to hold the sale next month. Sigh.
What on earth could the validity date of your visa have to do with you selling your car? Did they give you an explanation about this? Are they now immigration officers all of a sudden?

The timing and the very recent activities of prominent individuals in various diplomatic and political acts which in equally various ways have complicated and antagonized issues globally and internally for the USA are a puerile , spiteful and vindictive response and directive from a proven confirmed loser pandering to self and sycophantic enablers under the pretext of "leadership' !!
And when retribution comes, they blame the other side. I doubt that the USA did this themselves , they are far to fond of getting proxies to fight their wars for them. Pathetic warmongering at its worst.

And why not list Chiang Mai, it has a good report card and many suitable hotels for quarantine. But like CR no inwards international flights.
But how come places like Buri Ram are listed? A puzzle.
Maybe because areas listed are not popular holiday destinations for Western tourists? Who knows how they come up with these ideas?

This was a point I made when it was mooted to reduce quarantine from 14 to 10 days and then rejected, no doubt the Thai Hoteliers Association had a chat with the government that the lucky few would be losing a substantial amount of money if it was reduced to 10 days, hence the government ditched the idea, money, money, money............ Hey that would make a good record ????????
If they reduced to 10 days, they might be able to squeeze in a third sucker by month end. I wonder if they will mull or have mulled this. Makes good business sense. Much like the sittings at restaurants. Get 'em in, get 'em out as quickly as possible to make place for next customer.

Politicians create the enemy so that their buddies in the weapons industry can profit.
As long as politicians are allowed to continue to place wealth creation for their buddies above the wellbeing of the citizens they were elected to serve, nothing is going to change. And Joe Citizen is the only one dying from this shameful state of affairs.

The real reason they have banned E-cigs is the Gov don't know how to tax them and they make a lot of revenue from conventional cigarettes.
So just more B.S. from this Junta.
And nicotine oils are not all you can vape with the right equipment. Just ask Snoopdog. Weed and Crystal meth come to mind. This just might be the real reason for banning e-cigs, and not what they are trumping up as the real reason. If they did, they would be admitting that there is a drug problem in Thailand

Using your internet banking facility, you should be able to do an international money transfer via the international SWIFT Code system. I did mine today using this type of facility and it worked.
The hotel just needs to give you all their banking details and the SWIFT code of their bank. This is normally on the invoice they send you. Hope it works for you.
B.T.W I cannot understand why the hotels are not using their normal booking facilities whereby you can book online, enter your credit card details and that's it.
