  1. My dilemma is this. I have a friend visiting on the 24th of December from the UK. Do I pre order online for UK delivery and pack a suitcase for her to bring over as luggage with it in, or do I wait for a Thailand release?

I have seen a console bundle with a game for about £396. Will the Thai versions ever be that kind of price?

Also if I do get her to bring it in a suitcase will I need to make it look used? or can it be boxed as purchased?

    Cheers

I packed a xbox and a ps3 in my luggage a few months ago and had no problems but there were just wrapped in bubble wrap and looked used.

How much do you need to pay for your friend to take an extra bah to put the ps4 in ?

I'm not sure what it will be like with next gen but the current gen of consoles that are bought in Thailand are imported from japan so work out a bit expensive. A few years ago I bought a 360 arcade version for 11000 baht but in the uk you could get it for 120 pounds.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Well I think she is flying BA so extra baggage will be £40 for upto 32Kg so we will be having other things bought over too. Ideally I don't want to have to get my mum tearing apart my PS4 from it's box to make it looked used in the case lol. If customs did open it up and she said it was a gift would they want to add customs?

  3. I wanted to make some jerk chicken the other week and could not source Scotch Bonnet chilli anywhere so ordered the following fromhttp://seedrack.com/08.html

    • 2 packs of 35 Hot Jamaican Red Scotch Bonnet Pepper seeds
    • 1 Pack of 35 Hot Jamaican Yellow Scotch Bonnet seeds
    • 1 pack of 10 Trinidad Scorpion BUTCH T seeds!

I guess the advice I mainly need is in relation to the climate I live in and that I will be growing these on my west facing balcony on the 7th floor. This is my first time growing chilli however my wife has experience growing vegetables in an allotment back in Blighty.

To start with a few questions if I may:

    • Will I be able to harvest these plants over and over?
    • Will these strains I bought be OK with the tropical climate?
    • Would I be able to use the seeds from grown chilli to plant new ones?
    • What essential equipment will I need?
    • Any other advice you guys can recommend?

Other than that great to meet you all and thanks in advanced :)

  4. Hi Guys,

Does anyone know firstly the release date for the PS4 in Thailand? Any idea on costs for Thailand? And if it is possible to pre order it anywhere? If pre order is not availabe where would be the best place to buy one in Bangkok? Any websites recommended?

If it turns out that Thailand are not getting it for a while after the West will it be possible to buy in the UK and have it shipped without being fingered by customs?

    Cheers

  5. Hi Guys,

After reading it can be hard to source Scotch Bonnet, Ghost Chillies, Habanero etc I am contemplating growing my own.

We have a balcony on the 7th floor that is west facing so hopefully this will be ideal?

My main question is what chillies are easiest to grow and where is best to source them here in Bangkok? Should I order something from ebay like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CHILLI-MIX-4-25-Seeds-Hungarian-Black-NM-Twlight-Thai-Hot-Scotch-Bonnet-/121080543082 or would I get into difficulties with customs etc?

I mainly want them to use in BIR curries and Jerk chicken style recipes, so heat rather than decoration / quantity.

    Cheers

  6. Hi guys,

Just got myself a little suzuki skydrive and was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent helmet (currently using a bic c index helmet) and where to buy in BKK, preferably out BangNa if possible.

Also wouldnt mind some kind of lock for the bike if anyone has any ideas?

Oh and lastly where can I get one of those tubular tax holders?

    Cheers guys

  7. Yes you can buy the bike now and do the paperwork later but you should get from the seller

    1. Green book signed

    2. Copy of ID Card signed if Thai or residence certificate and passport copies signed if Farang

    3. Power of Attorney form signed

    4. Transfer paper signed

    Hope this helps

Thats great thanks. Sorry if this sounds silly but where would i get 2 and 3 from? And is number 2 just so you can prove it was bought if BIB get funny or is it essential part of transfer process? The bike is from a farang who works with me.

  8. Hi guys,

Can anyone let me know what I need document wise to have legal ownership of a bike I want to buy?

Someone from my work is selling a bike at a good price that I would like but my problem is at the moment I am waiting for my work permit which shoukd be through end of September. My work have my passport for the process.

Any way i can buy bike now and paperwork later?

    Cheers

  9. Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before. i bought my UK PS3 with me when I moved here. I would like some new games , last of us and GTA V. Can i get PAL games here ? Should i buy in UK and get family to post here? Or can i play NTSC asian games OK?

I read that most games work but online and DLC is region locked. i like to play with my mates jn europe so not sure best course of action?

    Cheers

  10. I am based in Bangkok, my work permit should be with me around the end of september so guess will have to wait until then.

Annoyingly my licence from the UK does not have even a pic of a bike on it, i never got UK bike licence or even a CBT. I do have my IDP though.

What is the process for getting a bike licence here then? If i cant bribe or sly one whats the test like? Have to book and get on waiting list?

  11. Hi guys,

I had a look about but couldnt find much info on this. Basically i have a UK driving license and an international driving permit thing.

If i was to get a little scooter what would i need to do? Do i need to take a test or CBT equivellent? Tax? Insurance? Register it in my name?

I see a lot for sale state they come with insurance, is it the bikes themselves that are insured? Not the person? What type of insurance is best here given im only after a little run about costing under 40000'tbh.

Can anyone give rough idea of costs of tax, insurance etc? I am 29 male with work permit, no convictions etc

    Cheers

  12. Ok so makro was a gold mine for a good majority of them thanks arthurwait smile.png but still a few I couldn't find.

    Mainly need:

    Garlic powder

    Ginger powder

    Onion powder

    Tamarind concentrate

Going to try villa now so wish me luck!

Garlic, Ginger and Onion powder, sorry cant understand why you would use dried powdered ingredients when you can get the real deal fresh?

Tamarind paste at any local market.

Because when you make your own spice blend / massala you need dry powdered spices. These are then fried slightly in the oil before adding the meat etc to release the oils. Most recipes use fresh ginger and garlic in addition.

This may sound a bit crazy but ummm, you could buy garlic, ginger, and onion and umm, dry them in the sun and then grind them. biggrin.png

Not trying to be critical but life is going to be a lot easier for you if you learn to adapt how you do things a little rather than being a slave to the notions of how you did things back home.

I actually enjoy the challenge of looking at things differently to find a way to make/do something that would be simple to do in the west. It actually works both ways. In the west I can't just pop over to the market and pick up some nam prik pao so I had to learn to make it myself. In Thailand I have to make things that I could find in any western grocery store.

It is getting easier to find western items in Thailand, for instance 10 years ago there was only one store in my province that stocked diet coke and now most stores have it, but come on man show some adaptability. It is no great trick to cut up some garlic and put it in the sun.

I can see where your coming from, don't get me wrong i am by no means a Mc Donald's, Pizza and Steak man out here, i love the thai food. It has been surprising how much of the spices I cook with back home that originate from India next door are hard to come by, I guess its the colonial days that rooted Indian food (albeit a bit bastardised) into UK culture and food.

Anyhow i have most of the spices now thanks to the help here, just a few odds to keep an eye out for. Curry leaves, fenugreek leaves, onion powder / salt, mango powder. On the whole successful shopping :)

  13. Thanks for all the advice, I got the motorbike taxi down to my local gas supplier and some broken thai / english walked away with a 7kg bottle for 1800 baht all in so pretty happy. I took the regulator and the smaller bottle wouldnt fit so 7kg was next smallest.

On a side note...jesus the burner kicks out some serious heat, it is much more powerful than my UK burner. Going to have to be careful lol

    Thanks again guys, huge help

  14. Ask for tung gas.

What does that mean? Ask who? A gas supplier when I find one?

I think iv located one locally from street view (great suggestion btw), they have lots of blue bottles in the store like the link above. Do i just stroll in and ask for a bottle, or will i need to set an account up etc with address, documents...
