  1. I have just signed up for True 35Mb/s Docsis (Cable) to be installed in the new property we will be renting here in Bangna in may. Can anyone advise what equipment we are most likely to recieve? Seperate Modem and Router or all in one?

Secondly can anyone comment on fair use policy, traffic throttling? I often torrent (legal linux distros)...frequently...Do true send letters about usage limits etc?

Cheers Guys. Sick of this 3Mb ADSL :(

  2. Hi Guys,

I am in the process of moving from a condo where I have True 3MB ADSL to a house that has no phone line setup. I know the next door neighbour has Cable Internet via true however.

Can anyone arm me with some advise before I call True and try and transfer to a new property. Is it that easy? My current plan started on the 15th August so it will be less than a year, I assume it is carrying over and not cancelling and starting a new one.

Will I have to pay for the installation of cable to the new property? If so any idea how much? (it is near the road not far back)

    Cheers

  3. I have found that the flour must be the cause of what is making our bread maker bread not quite right. I have used yeast bought from UK I would use back home, real butter and it just does not taste right with the all purpose flour. However I cannot find any decent strong bread flour here in BKK :(

  4. not kidneys. heart. and prone to cancer. i would make sure to get local boxers or boxers with longer snouts. the squishy faced northern european types do suffer from the heat but the longer nosed ones will do fine if acclimated. nienke up in chiang mai is a boxer fanatic so she could help you and also check in the spca type places .... many a farang has had to leave a dog behind, and many dogs are awaiting for adoption that could be purebred or mixed with identifiable boxer attributes. just so u should know, white boxers are not registerable (unless things have changed) due to them carrying a gene for deafness... a white boxer is the progeny of a coloured boxer with white patter over more then a third of their body (boxers come with white sox, white blaze/stripe and white aprons. if mated with another boxer with the same attributes then there will be boxers showing white and there will be boxers carrying the white gene. some folks breed for white but i certainly wouldnt. boxers ahve enough genetic problems without addtional colour oriented ones.

heart and hips (and good strong personality) and jaw/facial shape should be considered as well.

also unless you are going to go for high level working dog training, get a family oriented set of genes and not a working dog set of genes as theya re high super high energy and brains and need to be challenged . a family style boxer will be fun and games but not quite as driven to perform all the time. less damage to toilet bowl brushes and sofas and such in the long run.

boxers tend to live up to about 7-9 years due to genetic problems, a mixed boxer might last a bit longer and have a bit less problems (but not always).

frankly i dont know why u wouldnt want a local type dog if u are going to live in tahiland. they arent over bred as it is still a bit survival of the fittest, and they do suit the climate...

Hi bina, thank you for the detailed reply. Can I ask what you mean by "local type dog'? do you mean local bred boxer or like a rescue dog?

Also does regisration in Thailand meen anything? Is it regulated like in the the UK for instance?

  5. Hi Guys,

My wife and I are soon to move into our first house, and as such the first time we have the opportunity to have our own dog. We both grew up with dogs and absolutely love them, so this decision is primarily focused on if we can give the dog a happy, active life whilst we are in Bangkok for at least the next 3 years.

We are looking at a boxer pup, mainly as I grew up with a beautiful boxer and have always loved their personality, albeit I am aware they are very active dogs who act like a young dog well into their later life.

The house we will be renting has a very large, covered, secure driveway, which would be perfect for the dog during the day or when we are out. My wife works from home most days so would be present most of the time and I return from work around 3pm so also around a lot. We have no children.

    Our main concerns are:

    • Thailand does not seem to have many public parks etc. where dogs are welcome, at least not near us. Will he not get bored with the same route around the block to a small quiet field area we know? Is this fair?
    • We do not own a car so very much limited to the area around us (Bangna) however we could buy a car if need be in the future. Would not owning a car be a huge issue given public transport do not allow dogs here? Does having a car make a big difference in terms of getting to areas where the dog can enjoy a more stimulating walk?
    • Are dogs generally welcomed by Thai's? For example we shop at the market a lot, eat at street vendors locally etc. Do you simply tie the dog up to a post as you walk around the market, or if not too busy do they mind him being with you if on lead?
    • Do Soi dogs attack pet dogs when walking? Will they be an issue?
    • The heat here can be intolerable. How do dogs handle the heat? Do they overheat when out for a walk and say playing catching a ball? Or are they good at slowing down if getting very hot? Do most people walk in morning and after 6pm so its cool?

I am sure there are a 100 more things I have forgot but at present these are the things that are holding us back. We want to provide the best life we can for a dog, and finally having a house instead of a flat means we have the opportunity. We just want to make sure we bring a pup into out lives for the right reason and don't let the fact we 'can' dictate the decision.

  6. Hi guys, sorry to bring up an old thread but thought might be better than starting a new one.

My wife and I live in a nice house in BKK and will be here with my work for at least the next 3 years. Finally we have somewhere we could have a boxer!

I grew up with one so know the character. My inky issue is finding high quality breeders here in Thailand, obviously the language barrier and concerns about the small breeding pool are main issues.

I hear castle boxers a lot but cannot find a website or contact info. Can anyone advise on quality breeders, and prices we may be looking at?

    Cheers

  7. Hi Guys,

Just about to move out into a house here in BKK and startign to amass a fair few pricey odds and sods so would like house contents insurance. Ir it covers things like phone and laptop when out and about also even better but not essential.

Only me and my wife so not a great deal, just things like DSLR, HDTV, PS4, Macs etc.

Can anyone recommend a good but affordable provider here in thailand? And rough cost per month?

    Thanks

  8. Could anyone recommend any Thai based outlets that sell IP Cameras for a home surveillance setup? Nothing too fancy just something I can network POE to my home server and keep an eye on things when away. I am based in BKK if that helps.

    cheers

  9. Hi All,

Just thought I would give you all an update of our journey back to the UK with our two dogs!

Both my shihtzus are now snuggled up safe with us in England, and we are delighted! The process may seem daunting at first but I can honestly say it is so worth it to have them home with us. The climate, allthough a tad colder wink.png is really suiting them, they are both much lively and have so much energy to run about.

We actually managed to fly the dogs with Thai Airways Cargo even though this airline does not allowsnub nosed dogs...I dont know how they allowed us to but they did. It may be due to the fact that we flew them from Chiang Mai, and they only had 3 hours transit in bangkok, then off to heathrow.

A few things we found out:

    1. Make sure that each page of the Annex 2 certificate is stamped by the official body in Bangkok (in our case it wasthe office at chiang mai as the dogs were only transiting in bangkok with the same airline) this is differenat to the stamp your vet will give you which also needs to be puton there.

    2. Make sure that you have the pets vaccine books, with the original rabies vaccine sticker, and dogs id details on the book - ie their name/ mircochipo chip number etc. The customs office at Heathrow must have the originals of all documents before they will release them.

cost for flights with thai airways cargho (total weight was 20kg for both dogs inc. cages) for 16,000 thb.

cost forusing the services of james cargo (who were fab) including customs/import fees was 460 gbp

    good luck all!

Good to hear you have them safe and sound at home. I am doing research into if we could get a boxer dog home in a few years, or if we will have to put off buying one out here :(

Can I ask why you used thai airways cargo and james cargo? Are they 2 different services?

  10. So I have started to twist the Mrs's arm and I am one step closer to getting a boxer puppyw00t.gif

I grew up with the most beautiful white boxer as a child and always wanted to eventually have my own. Finally I am in a position (just) to be able to care for one responsibly, albeit in Thailand now!

Now I am reasearching around trying to find reputable breeders who genuinely care for the pups, which is a hard task in itself. I have found one which quotes 30000 tbh inc registration papers, however I am a little unsure how this works in Thailand. What would these 'registration papers' be for? He did mention the parents are a Thailand Champion and an Indian Champion mother (not sure worth of that with so few boxers beign shown?) so would it just be to register it as this for breeding purposes?

Can anyone offer any other advise when buying this breed, or indeed any non local breed here in Thailand? I am aware it is not ideal given small breeding pools, so weighing up the options at this stage really.

    Cheers

  11. Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone knows of any reputable boxer dog breeders in Bangkok or Thailand in general. The breed often suffers genetic problems even in the west with large breeding pools, are they not more succeptable here in Thailand to these issues given the small amount of dogs to breed between?

I have not had much luck searchign online for websites or boxer clubs here and all I have found is NYKennels just outsideBangkok. The website looks fairy decent and seem to be indicate they know what they are doing. Does anyone have any experience with this breeder?

I have looked at buying in the UK and importing however it seems the Thai regulations state the animal must have been in the original country for at least 6 months, so we would not get to bond with it in those early months :(

    Any advise much appreciated,

    Cheers

  12. Hi Guys,

My wife and I are looking to get return flights to the UK around the end of July and return 3 weeks later. We are flexible with exact dates.

Can anyone offer any hints on how to get flights for a reasonable price? Most are showing around 40000 tbh. We would prefer direct unless a significant saving and not too much extra hassle.

Do most of you use skyscanner? or book direct? Through agent?

    Cheers

  14. Hi guys,

I am moving away from my HTPC setup and going DLNA to my new home server. As a result I need to get my hands on a Samsung F7100 compatible webcam and from my research I need the VG-STC3000.

Anyone know if / where I can get one in BKK? Or will I need to have one shipped over here?

    Cheers

  15. Do you know what they tend to prescribe here . Xanax? Valium or something else? I get prescribed Valium in the UK for flying so it's not just wanting to get some shut eye, which it never tends to do for me, not on 10mg anyway.

Any also know rough cost here?

  16. Does anyone know if this might work straight off with True? http://www.invadeit.co.th/product/wireless-networking/tp-link/ultimate-wireless-n-gigabit-router-tl-wr1043nd-p013886/

My only other thinking for a new router is if I can find one that is Gigabit, works with True easily and if it allows me to change the DNS servers so I can make connected devices think they are in the UK etc for Netflicks, iPlayer etc.

Is there such a magical device in the Land of S*** TV?

  17. Hi Guys,

I am in hte process of planning my HomeServer setup and I need to ensure I have gigabit cabling from my server - router - HTPC.

The issues is I cannot for the life of me find out exactly what model router True have given me. There is no indication of the model number on it anywhere. I want to A) Check firmare is upto date, B) check if it supports Gigabit Ethernet and C) see if it is worth upgrading to another router and if so what ones are compatble with True?

    any help much appreciated cheers
