  1. I could have sworn we had to pay a deposit for each of those water bottles you use on a cooler. It was about 3 years ago but I remember it being about 170 THB each I thought.

When we tried to get the deposit back this week the fella said we didn't pay a deposit and just collected them.

My memory could be wrong, any one recall if a deposit is usually taken and how much?

  2. I have an account with a currency broker so get very good exchange rates compared to commercial bank rates with no fees.

I locked in a transfer rate to exchange THB to GBP but need to get the THB to a UK account which I was surprised at, I had assumed the broker would have a Thai based account so the transfer would be local.

When I looked at my Kbanking online I can add international bank accounts for transfers but the currency option is basically anything other than Thai. I must pay the account in THB and not have Kbank do any exchange rates etc.

Anyone know how I do this online? And what the fee by kbank for a straight international transfer is in THB?

    Thanks

No. He will need to do it in Pattaya.

OK so I think I get the process now.

Essentially he can get a minibus from Pattaya to meet me in Bangkok, I then give him all the documents I mentioned at the top of this post and he can take the car straight back to Pattaya.

He can then do the entire transfer process at a local DLT in Pattaya.

Have I got it right or am I confusing myself?

Thanks for all your help guys.

I bought in Bangkok, with power of attorney the seller does not need to be there, so no need to miss work.

We transferred ownership in Bangkok in my wife's name but took about 5 hours - very busy, but straight forward. Then transferred registration to Krabi, arranged from Bangkok and completed (new reg plates) in Krabi.

A friend bought in Hua Hin and did everything in Krabi. So I suggest you get the buyer to visit his local DLT office to check if they can / will do that.

So if the buyer wants to come and buy it on a weekend he will need to make another trip to BKK to transfer at the DLT, arrange for transfer of plates to different province and collect in pattaya.

Hopefully any issues he has should be fine as long as my end is all complete document wise.

My last question is does anyone have a translated version of the vehicle transfer form and power of attorney as I have no idea what each field is. Cheers

You can drive with any plates through Thailand, i.e. transfer of ownership is one thing and changing the province of registration (of the car, that is) is another.

Cars with Bangkok plates fetch a better resale value (for whatever reason) and you do NOT want to deal with those idiots in Banglamung. Purchased/sold vehicles in Bangkok - easy; a scooter I purchased in my (farang) name was not sellable because of "fake" chassis number. Telling them that I purchased the vehicle and got it transferred myself in my name at the very same office - did not interest anybody.

Took the scooter to Bangkok and got it transferred within no time (and they rubbed off the chassis number like in Banglamung and checked their database). Was it a little brown envelope Banglamung wanted - I never found out.

So just do it in Bangkok, they've arrived in the 21st century

Sounds a bit of a nightmare.

My problem is the DLT is open weekdays only and my employer will not allow time off to transfer vehicles, so power of attorney is my only option. The buyer wants to come view / take it on a weekend also.

I guess as a seller I just need to ensure he has all the correct paperwork from my end and leave the technicalities of the transfer to him but I would like to advise him as best as I can.

What would you advise I say / recommend to him when he comes to view / buy at the weekend?

  6. I am looking to sell my pickup to another farang. The vehicle is all in my name but when I purchased it it was from a farang who had his Thai wife with us at Mo Chit DLT so didn't really know what was going on regarding the process.

Unfortunately I cannot have time off work to go to the DLT as I think it is only open weekdays. As such I think I need:

An added complexity is I live in Bangkok and the buyer will be coming from Pattaya and wants to come to buy on a weekend.

If someone could help answer these that would be great:

    1. Is it only the Power of Attorney, Vehicle Transfer and signed Passport, visa, work permit needed on my behalf?
    2. Will the buyer need to go to a Bangkok DLT office as he lives in another province, or can this be done from Pattaya?
    3. Anything I am missing here?

Cheers for any help in advance

  7. I think westerners look ridiculous wearing these amulets, at least Thais have the excuse it's their culture.

It would be hidden under my clothes or hanging in my car. No offence but I'm not that concerned what a Thai thinks about how I look wearing one, pretty much 80% of their modern entire culture is taken from the west. I think even wearing yants on a necklace is a western thing coming from our crosses etc

  8. Hello all bit of a random one this,

I work have worked in Thailand for 3 years now and find the culture fascinating, particularly the superstitions. I am not religious however out of the various religions I admittedly know little about Budhism does seem one of the most sensible and peace loving. However I am not likely to start practicing any religion, although I do respect them.

I was always interested in the superstitious side of Thai religion, although I am aware this isnt strictly Buddhism and more old beliefs and customs the Thais blended with it. I have always liked Sak Yant tattoos but not being Thai feel this could come accross a bit strange, and I am hesitant to get tattoos altogether.

That has led me to be attracted to Thai amulets as a form of superstitious protection but I guess more the aesthetics of them that I like.

I would like a low hanging necklace with 1 or 2 (possibly 3 due to reading its better luck to have odd number?) amulets. I am not really aware of all the properties they are said to possess but I would like Protection and Health. Something along those lines. I have also liked the necklaces that have an enclosed scroll type cylinder at the back of the neck. Ideally I would like to have the pendants that would not be disrespectful given I am not Buddhist if possible? Can you wear only the magic types that are not Buddhist? 'Sai ya sart'?

I am not looking to sink sill amounts of money into this and really it is nice ornament I would wear sometimes and if not hang in my campervan back in the UK for good luck like taxi drivers here.

Can anyone offer any advice on this? Where I could buy from in Bangkok? Any trustworthy online stores or temples best? How do I know the prices and not get ripped off knowing I know every little?

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I know most people think these are a silly waste of money, I understand that and not professing they have magic powers. I really dont want this thread to turn into a argument or Thai bashing thread please.

  9. Newsflash: Europe is way worse off than Thailand in terms of future.

    - Hidden poverty that could lead to civil war:

Spanish women are now so poor that they resort to sell their hair which is unheard of.

French butchers are regularly victims of arm robberies, people are just hungry they rob butcheries instead of banks.

In England women cannot afford sanitary pads and tampons anymore and use newspapers instead.

Sales of cat/dog food are plummeting people cannot just afford petfood anymore.

    - Banks are about to collapse: Signs such as

. negative interests - you now have to pay to keep you money in the bank, which is unheard of.

.Banks now refuse you to withdraw "big" amounts like 5000 Euros even if you have it,

500 Euros note was taken out yesterday to prevent people from using cash,

Like they did in Argentina and Greece, the banks will shut down and they will run away with our cash and mayhem, will follow.

    - Increased risk of Civil war because of Immigration which is still pouring in huge numbers

Sweden and Germany attitude is changing and despite the multiculturalism propaganda, people are vastly against it, especially after the Cologne and Ikea events.

Raise of right wings parties in Austria, UK Britain First, France National Front, Germany pegida etc

500 ISIS soldiers are now infiltrated in Europe ready to plan attack

    - 3rd world war is coming

Putin was clearly a CIA target with Panama Papers.

Missiles are in place in Europe all around Russia

Nuclear weapons are now in the hands of ISIS.

What a nut job. I do hope you do not place your life decisions on this.

  10. We are planning to import to Amsterdam first then ferry to UK. That way we can fly him ad checked luggage not cargo which is considerably more expensive.

Surly with EU legislation all EU countries must except the same testing and conditions? I was going to use biotest for the same reasons you stated.

The overseas cost I referred to is the levy the pet hospitals add to the process here in Thailand. If I send to lab myself once in UK is usual fee and a £10 postal fee to send to my vet in Thailand.

Do you think I will have issues in Amsterdam if the lab tests is OIE approved?

The.gov site seems to list biotest still.

  11. Hi Guys,

I am looking to save some pennies and send my dogs blood serum myself to a UK lab when I am back in the UK for 3 weeks this summer. My vets can make the serum so my plan is to take it in checked luggage, then when in the UK immediately send it to the UK lab next day delivery for testing.

    A few questions:

    1) When completing the Lab forms for the test they seem to be geared towards providing the service for Vets not owners, with fields for the Vet address etc. Will there be any issue in simply putting my own house details for the results etc? Or would I have problems them when exporting / importing to the EU?

    2) I have heard mixed comments about using an ice pack to keep the serum cool. Is this needed? If so would it be needed for both the flight and the postal to the lab once in the UK?

    3) What UK service should I use? Simply something like DHL next day recorded delivery? Will they take blood samples OK as I know the international DHL will not carry handle them on normal service here from Thailand (hence why I want to post within the UK). Should I just send when within the UK with no indication of what is contained?

Any other general advice about doing the testing this way?

Hopefully it will cost nearer £60 than £300 if doing via my Vet here in Thailand handling it all.

    Cheers

  12. Hi guys,

For some reason I am getting error: ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED

    http://www.zyma.com/

    and

    http://www.wampserver.com/en/

These are different hosts so I am not sure if my IP address has been blocked as the first is my website host and I connected a few times today or if it is True Internet host issue.

Randomly my phone over 4g connects fine but all the devices on my wifi will get the error above.

Can anyone on True test this for me?

    Cheers

  13. Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I could not find an ideal place to post this.

I have just come back from Japan and now have a fairly decent knife collection which I would like to start keeping in a leather knife roll. I am not a chef but do enjoy cooking and so will probably end up with about 6 different knives ranging in size up to about 15 inches max.

I would like something a little special and that I can easily take with me when going out in my campervan in the UK, BBQ'ing etc. I find the magnetic bar I am using in my kitchen knocks the blades a lot and I am going to start keeping much sharper edges.

    My requirements are:

    • Softish leather / Not too bulky rolled up
    • Real leather of some sorts
    • Max of 6 - 8 knife slots (not too many I will never use)
    • Keeps knives fairly secure
    • Will last many years
    • Cost under 7000 TBH

I have found a number on eEsy but due to the Thailand Duty on importing leather goods (30%) and the VAT on the product and shipping! it adds a fair wack. The sellers are reluctant to send as a gift or state just the material costs also, so I am looking if I can either buy here in Thailand or have one custom made.

Can this be purchased in Thailand already made? Or failing that can anyone recommend / suggest a leather worker in Bangkok who could recreate something similar to the images I posted below. And if so how much I would be looking at for it?
