I think its the Great Hornbill. When I first came here and could legally work I was often in Khao Sok park in the south and although these were not common, we saw a few. They were also in Khao Yai. Several years later it was obvious that deforestation, lack of edible wild fruits had reduced their numbers. Hornbills are said to be a good indicator as to the state of your tropical forest. You don't need to be an expert to know how that's fairing.

    yes it is

    You're assuming:

    1) Guaranteed, compounding, 6% for 20 years. GL with that. Past performance of ANY investment is not a prediction of future returns.

    2) The BHT does NOT continue to strengthen.

It's up against all the majors in the past 15 years thus TE Visa increases in cost.

    3) Most importantly, non-monetary 'piece of mind.'

For ME, and evidently some other farangs, we enjoy NOT having to hassle with Thai Imm regs annually.

I suspect MANY farangs would go the TE route IF they could 'afford' it.

not really depends on your  age...at 55 Im too  young for this, I might take it out when im 70.....if  its  still around.............or if im absolutely  forced to do it by  immigration demanding too  much information from me Id  do it  now.

As of  now its not a problem but....who  knows??

This is probably the most difficult thing for westerners to wrap their heads around. While there are laws in Thailand, the gov't official in charge of administering those laws has great discretionary power to interpret and impose the law as he sees fit, particularly in "special cases".  Of course, this leads to corruption as the official can make a "special case" of whatever case he chooses.  The case of a friend or family member can be considered a special case. Or the case of someone who gives him money. This is of course corruption but it is *legal* corruption in as much as that official has the right to judge which cases are special.

Hmmmmmmmmm sound s like this person is "special needs".........
