  1. Message boards and Thailand both seem to attract more than their fair share of people running from some other life, either outside their front door or back West. I tend to think of the vocal bashers like the Mormons here, a little nutty and not representitive of the general population.

Just use your ignore button when someone is baiting you and don't be afraid of talking to people out in the real world. Yes, bad sentiments exist towards Western women but it's not as black and white as it can seem from reading here.

I find that there is a middle ground out there, in that real world. It's not easy for men when everyone's roles have changed so much in a generation. IMHO, it's an essential emotional need of men to feel needed and some of them feel that modern Western morals are in the way of meeting that need. Some have bad experiences with Western women in the past and make the mistake of projecting that on all of us. Try to understand, but that doesn't mean taking a bunch of ignorant crap to heart.

I've met some lovely Western men here and many are tired of fighting off the opinions of this vocal group. Many are sick of getting lumped into this group and hate hearing from them. Know the bad ones are out there but don't let it get in the way of meeting the good ones.

Spot on Pearl... IMHE Well said :o

  2. But you see we kicked the rubbish out of our country and sent'em back to Britian. AND THEN WE SAVED YOUR A$$'$ NOT ONCE BUT TWICE...

Great post Goerge!! NOW IF WE COULD ONLY GET A BUSH TO LISTEN TO IT>

A common myth the yanks love to believe, if wasn't for the French the yanks would have lost their war of independance, (ever wondered why they gave you the statue of liberty, or do think you think you made it all by yourselves) and as for saveing our asses if your talking about WWI and II the yanks arrived very late when it was all but over to claim a share of the spoils, and then made lots hollywood movies about how they won it all by themselves.

we saved your ass in korea, in vietnam- all by yourselves you didn't do so well, you see we have the brains and you have the brawn :D

    :o:D:D

  3. Written across the wall of the cave were the following symbols:

    post-6192-1137385974_thumb.jpg

It was considered a unique find and the writings were said to be at least three thousand years old!

    post-6192-1137385974_thumb.jpg

The piece of stone was removed, brought to the museum, and archaeologists from around the world came to study the ancient symbols. They held a huge meeting after months of conferences to discuss the meaning of the markings.

The President of the society pointed to first drawing and said: "This is a woman. We can see these people held women in high esteem. You can also tell they were intelligent, as the next symbol is a donkey, so they were smart enough to have animals help them till the soil.

The next drawing is a shovel, which means they had tools to help them."

    post-6192-1137385974_thumb.jpg

Even further proof of their high intelligence is the fish which means that if a famine hit the earth and food didn't grow, they seek food from the sea. The last symbol appears to be the Star of David which means they were evidently Hebrews.

    The audience applauded enthusiastically.

Then a little old Jewish man stood up in the back of the room and said, "Idiots, Hebrew is read from right to left......

It says: 'Holy Mackerel, Dig The Ass On That Chick.

    :o:D:D

  4. well they don't grow enough food to feed their people, all the cocain is imported, thats the rich boys upset, all the electronics is made in Taiwan or Japan, so thats technology covered, and they buy all their clothes from China, so yes please good old USA, get your fingers out of everone else pie and stand your own 2 feet and become isolated, and we'll all see how long you last when no one want your dollers anymore

and us brits won't need to learn arabic any more than we needed to learn german, we know how to win wars :D and just need to stay out your's

Funny Thing how everyone loves to hate AMERICA... Untill you quit getting our money and support.

Ahh, the self-righteous Americans, they think they are so wonderful because they believe their own propaganda.

Sueha!! Sometimes you actually make sense, but when it comes to Americans you don't have a clue. :o

  5. I don't find this funny at all...

Do you mean to say, you'd rather disadvantaged young upcountry women didn't learn cooking or anything else, so their only choice remains to 'service' "less-morally-upstanding" (s)expats like yourself?

:o Do you ever get tired of sticking your foot in your mouth!!

I think a large group of us would say we are tired of it. :D

  6. I am not speaking of you though, and this is just a conversation, there is nothing personal here. I know that not all Christians are the same, for that I am thankful. Yet, I feel sure that if you have seen and heard what I have heard, even you would not defend them so.[/color]

Hi there. Am I misunderstanding something here...? I've been following this thread and I thought Suegha was defending/supporting well-meaning missionaries 'in principle' - rather than specifically those people in that area.

    Yes, I believe he was, but I was attacking missionaries in general. My point is that regardless what your intentions may be, if you enter someone elses culture to change who and what they are, because you believe that this idenity of theirs is comdemned, for lack of a better word, is wrong, even if you are helping them in some way while you are trying to change them, for helping them isn't your primary goal and your helping them is an attempt to create trust so that you can change them etc;

    :o:D

Wonder how many of those *Bible Thumpers* Outside NANA P are found in the gogo Bars on any given night???? Maybe it's do as I say not as I do?? Just a thought..

  7. Not understanding what the monks are saying can be a little over whelming, but it is really a good experience. My wife and I originally registered marriage a while before the ceremony. So I know your confusion.

I only have two points to make as they helped me out a lot as well.

    1. Having a ceremony will make your marriage legitimate in the eyes of your inlaws. Even though you are legally married (To her family this is the same as living with someone and not getting married. They are a little embarassed by this. As in my case her mom would not tell the rest of the family where or what she was doing.

    2. Even more important I think (speaking from experience). Asking her to have the wedding ceremony and you being happy to do so will make your wife happy.... And That is the most important thing of all..

  8. Never seen handsome Farangs in Thailand.

    :D

    Then, they are match.

    :D

Many farangs in Thailand want girls just for the basic human needs but Thai man needs stutus also bcoz we are in the same culture and lots of people around us.

In my culture we are not select girl just a woman who only has chromosome XX but we look at family, education, brain, etc. That's why lots of farangs can't get in touch with prettysmart Thai girls.

Racism based on skin color, status or looks is still racisim.

You talk about marrying for status, then why is it that most THAI men keep a mystress on the side??? (WORTHLESS) :o

Hmm Seems that love is an after thought!! One thing that really gets me is how "sophisticated" thai people can look down on any one with no education and say they are ugly or low class.... :D

  9. Felix

Just wanted to say Thanks and keep doing a great job with Radio Bangkok and THAILAND TODAY

Radio Bkk and Thai visa is really a great way to keep up on whats going on in Thailand and with the Expat group there. great show helps make my work day more barable. Keep it up..

cv, you bring up some good points and good topic suggestions for future shows.

However, its my contention that having the world "sex" in a headline does not make it sensational. The "Land Of Sex" phrase is obviously a play on the "Land Of Smiles" moniker that Thailand has. Thailand is also a notorious destination for those from far off lands looking for sex. But let's be honest, 99% of prostitution is conducted between Thais. It is an accepted form of recreational activity that although is illegal is not enforced nor prosecuted. If more nations took the Thai attitude about sex and prostitution there might be less abberrent forms of nurosis. (sp? forgive me.)

To suggest that I'm insulting someone because I use the word sex, talk about sex or cover news that relates to sex, is stupid and rather indignant. Somebody has an ax to grind and I welcome the exchange. Too bad we are not live and ready for callers and you and others could call and put forth your opinions. It will get there.

You also have to understand the limitations of my production. I don't have a team of producers helping me scourer the Kingdom searching for stories. We are just emerging as a commerical stations with limited resources. I have a mike, a computer and a voice. I do interviews when I can. I tell stories and I regurgetate the news with, hopefully, a fresh take on it. I try to give a peice of Thailand in a way that you can't get anywhere else.

The talk radio thing for foreigners here is new. Radio Bangkok is the only place you can find an English speaking foreigner talking about Thailand on a regular basis.

What is annoying is people, unlike you, that attack before investigation. Again, for someone to blow up over one headline, or one topic, AND NOT EVEN HAVE LISTENED TO THE SHOW, is not worthy of responding to...(He said following his tenth paragraph... :D )

I enjoy reading all respones and I hope that one day the entire exchange can be carried live. I think foreigners here would appreciate that kind of medium.

But rest assured, there will be more sex talk on Thailand Today...not everyday, but it will be there. If you don't like it. Don't listen. But when a massage parlor attempts to open across from a school, I will pass the info along and comment on it. People want to hear about that.

Folks need to lighten up a little. I'm only talking, trying to have some fun and present a little of Thailand.

BTW, you saw how much attention my rant on fried bananas got today...NONE!  :D

    :o:D:D:D:D:D

  10. As a Bible reading Christian I'd like to add my thoughts.  I dislike this type of preaching (although I have not witnessed this particular scene so I'm going on the info in the post)  However, my comments are the same.  The message of the Christian gospel is not one of Damnation but one of Salvation!  And no where in their bibles does it tell them to spread this message in this way, it's their own choice - if they weren't Christian fundamentalists they would be some other sort of fundamentalist!

Didn't Jesus say that you shouldn't put your lamp under a bushel but you should set it up on a stand so that it would shed light to everyone?

It's true that Jesus did say in 3 of the Gospels that we should not put our candle under a bushel, here's the quote from Matthew 5.15-16

"Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

I think the key words here are 'good works' we should be doing our good works to glorify God. I could never interpret this as bible bashing. In my experience bible bashers who preach hellfire and damnation have a negative effect whereas the quotes containing the 'letting your light shine' are all positive. This is how I interpret the Gospel message.

    Very nicely put!

  11. They look and sound like very redneck American gringos.

OK, you've got my interest. What does a "very redneck American gringo" look and sound like? Feel free to use any reference, maybe a fictional character from a movie or TV show you've seen.

A very redneck american........Kid Rock, Britney Spears, Everyone in Dukes of Hazzard, etc ????

I dont agree with what these people are doing, (if they are as the op wrote) However

as you said a SOUTHERN REDNECK (my self) I take offense to this comment and the generalization that just because people are from the southern states they are rednecks.. :o

  12. Some women just stimulate their husband as long as they get beaten. I knew once a woman that got beaten frequently by her husband. People asked why she didn't leave her husband? She said that sometimes she's so irritating that she understands her husband.

Except all this crap against me again I agree with one good post before in this topic. Soph has to be careful not to pick up a new man that's wife-beater too. Somehow these wife-beaters have some characteristics that seem to attract certain kind of women.

IYIYI<<<<I am Not saying any more..(lappami) You have said more than enough. Its like talking to a stump with you... :o

  13. Another Yankee hypocrite. Do you have something new that has not been discussed yet? Why only women and children doesn't deserve to be touched by a man. You think violence is okay between men? How do you know that Soph doesn't deserve get beaten? Maybe she's asking for it.

Good Grief!! :D you seem to have your opinions... My question for you is do you actually believe all this Krap you have been spouting... If you do maybe you should move to the Middle east where it is *Accepted* as you call it :o

I am not going to dignify comment.... Violence Is NEVER OKAY in situations like this.

But for the last part there "Maybe She's asking for it" . :D

I hope all Finns are not like that.:annoyed

  14. I agree it would be wise to leave an aggressive husband but it's difficult not to listen to your heart. Her husband beats her up once in a while so what? She told that her husband is a very nice loving man at other times. I would rather ask women leave their dull and boring non-beating husbands.

So you think that an exciting husband who beats you up occasionally is preferable to a boring husband who treats you with respect? :o

Bizzare thinking I agree!!! :D Let's spice up the relationship and box you a bit!!! :D

I'll second you Spot on Brit
