Maybe I have lived here too long or gone local, or something. But frankly, it is becoming more and more difficult for me to enjoy a night out with my fellow farangs living here. I know Thailand isn’t perfect and I go off about something at least once a day, but night after night, and week after week, and year after year of the same old whines and cries and moaning is just more than I can take.
I prefer to hang out with the tourists or newbies or the locals for the most part.
I know there are whiners everywhere around the world, but the long-term expats in Thailand are some of the most miserable and unpleasant people I have ever been around.
I must like it here, since I live here, and no one is putting a gun to my head making me stay, and I don’t feel any desire to spend large chunks of my life listening to people putting down the choices I have made, and feel pretty good about. Maybe, it is just the ones around my age (40ish) who are basically unhappy, I am not sure. Maybe I should start hanging out with a younger or an older crowd.
How many times does one want to hear how Thais are stupid, corrupt, dishonest and so on in one’s life? Especially when one is married to a Thai and have children who think they are Thai?
So here I am complaining about the complainers, a bit ironic isn’t it?

I think its ok to have a whinge about Thailand, sometimes things here just annoy the sh1t out of me, but thats life, things annoy me back in the UK too, its a balance.
What does annoy me though is the posters who say 'if you dont like it go home' all the time, especially the ones that only have been to Thailand for a holiday and never lived here which is a large amount of people on this forum.
A lot of you have never lived in Thailand on a full time basis and have little idea of what that is like, it can get you down sometimes. Let them moan I say, as long as its something worth moaning about.
Hey is it okay if I say to people who want to moan about Thailand. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT GO HOME> After spending 2 years here now I think I can honestly say its better for me than my home country...lol

killing for eating it is absolut OK.
But a snake is not going into your house with the plan to murder you and your family. If it is left alone or relocated the problem is also solved.
In Thailand there were people killed by elephants or by foreigner but still noone gets the idea to kill all chang and farangs.
The snake only bites you when it worries for its own life, as you are most probably to big to get swallowed down by it. So as you have the bigger brain, it is up to you to solve a meeting with a snake without killing one.
100000000000000000% sure I'd kill it.Then later I may Google it up to see how friendly it was. Not taking chances with snakes around my family. Or dogs, for that matter, and yes I do realize dogs are a bigger threat than snakes, likely.
Dogs are smarter though. If you beat it up once, they know to stay away. With snakes, well, you get the picture. Plus you can eat snakes, whereas few people enjoy eating dog. (esp. not Soi dog).
Next poster who disagrees, please also explain why it's ok to catch and kill fish and chickens but not snakes. Thanks.

I've noticed the way some Thais treat animals though it is really quite cruel. We live with three dogs and yesterday I stopped the children punching them
They also got a puppy the other day as a gift for my Step-mums brother. Her sister has dropped it one hundred times and when she does they all find it funny! My Dads other ex Thai wife had a dog in England, she used to beat it with a wooden stick everyday if it didn't eat it's food. The dog unfortunatley grew up to be so nasty we had to put it down
My step-mum's other sister also got a puppy and threw it out when it was older because it wasn't cute anymore.
If they want to buy a dog then why don't they learn how to look after it?
Seems people like to pick on the Thais here, but forget about the tract records of their own countries... Its not about Religion, the simple fact is you get bad people no matter what country or religion they are... There are just as many things happening to animals and people in the western world... But then Hypocrasy comes in all forms!

A related question...I have an IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP. It has the Microsoft Windows XP Professional Product Key on the PC, but I did not get a Windows XP Pro CD when I purchased the unit. In the event that I need to replace or upgrade my HDD can I use any Win XP Pro CD (borrow one from someone), but use the product key on my sticker?

reading all this stuff............Some of these things your saying are really outa here........ IF you purchased the computer new chances are that you a restore disk with it... this is used to restore your pc to the original state.... Personally I don't like to use it as it really is nothing more than a shodow image or the original.... For the WIN XP DISK and PRODUCT KEY.. This most likely will not work with someone elses disk... UNLESS the disk came with the same brand computer....There are many different builds of XP PRO and HOME. This PRODUCT KEY may not work with other builds...
As for formatting the drive ... GET AN XP DISK... boot to the disk choose install new version of xp choose F8 for the license agreement and then choose to setup on C:. Follow the steps It is really very simple. MAKE SURE TO CHoose to format the drive with NTFS file system......
OHH And almost forgot... all these other ways they have told you can work, but file HDD will still be formatted anytime you do a fresh install.. ....
1 other thing as for losing data... you have to format a drive 5-7 times to completely remove all traces from the hard drive. ....
All of this sounds more complicated than it really is.... But Ajarn Mark Seems to have a pretty good handle on it...

hi all......kids messing with my computer now system goes strait to firefox and i can not find my internet explorer which i prefer too use. tryd windows download sight but just updates there????????running xp home trying the back up thing now.. thanks for your input on this....
Try searching for IE then once found set as your default.
Right on .... The EXE file (exacutable) for Internet Explorer in Windows XP is found in c:\program Files\Internet explorer\Iexplorer.exe... . If the Kids have deleted it from your desktop and Program files on the start menu. just open my computer and look in the above path. You can also download the IE setup from www.microsoft.com search for Internet Explorer 6. Hope that helps.

MS Internet Explorer can be uninstalled by going Start - settings- Control Panel- Add/Remove Programs... When this comes up on the left side choose add/remove windows COMPONENTS.... Uncheck the Internet explorer box and hit next. THIS WILL UNINSTALL THE INTERNET EXPLORER SERVICE. HOWEVER I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS AS IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO THE STABILLITY OF YOUR SYSTEM

Are you sure a photo copy will suffice? Can a UK Drivers Licence be proof of ID? If not, i'd sooner risk a 500baht fine, than the hassles that go with losing a Passport, when slightly intoxicated

I have limited experience, but when you've collected your luggage and just before you enter the arrival hall proper you pass a desk with 2-3 ladies behind a TAXI sign asking you if you would like one. "How much?" "200 baht." Seems OK - but the "taxi" turned out to be a ten-seater minibus. Fortunately I was the only passenger...
On another occasion we were three people arriving and paid a proper taxi 400 baht for all of us. Seems reasonable.
A tuk-tuk is, as Limbo says, 100 baht. Not so good of course, if it's raining.
Paid Baht 350 for a proper taxi up to Mai Chan... Just be sure to pay at the counter. Dont take one of the taxi's with out it. IT WILL COST YA.!

That Has to be one of the Most idiotic things I have ever heard. Its easy to say he is loving most of the time.. Untill one day he goes really over board and you dont wake up . No Woman or child ever deserves to be touched by A man.... End of story. Soph It is hard but you need to get away NOW.. dont wait it will get worse with time... I have seen this happen to my family and it sucks. The longer you stay with him ONE THING IS FOR SURE YOU WILL HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME EVER TRUSTING SOMEONE Again.... My Sister still doesn't ... Plain and simple forget the excuses you HAVE TO HAVE THE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR YOUR SELF TO LEAVE. No one else can do it for you..
