  1. These dudes are a bunch of scammers. Their stories are bullshit to try and make cash for their living expenses. I would bet their visas are all up to speed also. I would simply like to see the scumbags deported and blacklisted. I wish no other harm to come to them

On the ebonics issue, saying that you would like to rob someone's ass is not ebonics, it's regular American English. Have you seen John's ass? Hey where's your ass? This is normal non ebonic talk. Now if you say " say man, we be bad", this is ebonics for "we are good". If you want to talk about confusing whacked out English, I will quote some posters to this forum "What are you on about?". Now what on earth is that supposed to mean?. On and about dont go side by in any correct sentence

  2. Hello all, The Dude here: Let me start out by saying that Brokeback Mountain is an absolute masterpiece of a movie in every respect. I watched it a few days ago and was blown away, much to the chagrin of a few friends who refuse to watch it due to the subject matter. When I 1st heard about it, I too was not keen on checking it out either but after seeing an interview with Ang Lee the director, and hearing all the hype, I decided to give it a go. Ang Lee blew me away with his Ice Storm movie in 1997, a flick that takes place in my native New Canaan CT set circa 1973. Brokeback is not a movie about gays as many people think. It is a movie about real people and real relationships. This is Ang Lee's masterpiece. Mark my words, this thing will deservedly sweep the oscars; I'm talking Best Direction, Screenplay, Acting, Cinematography etc etc. My friends will continue their boycott and that's their loss. This movie is great for the same reasons that made Midnite Cowboy great. Go see this movie today. Great movies are rare nowadays

  3. Hey jing jing masterful dude, did ya have to go and mention the Apple Pan? OMG those are the best burgers worldwide hands down and their coffee aint too shabby either. For those who do not know, there is but one Apple Pan and it is located in LA. In N Out also grrrrrreat. Tommy Burger has those hour long lines for burgs at 1AM for good reason. As for BKK....forgetabouttttit,,,dont waste your time. You may as well go to MCDs. And yes, why is Burger King 150% of MCDs price?. and where is Wendys? I'll even take a Jack in the Crotch. Those Nana Burgers taste OK the 1st few times you eat them but bottom line is they are NASTY.

  4. The Dude dropped in with hot chicks but the scene was lame so he lassoed his hot chicks and bolted down to an even lamer scene at the Bamboo Bar. Hey what can you do, it must be a tough job to delame a bogus situation. Thai visa needs to appoint a coolification architect to ensure that the bash can be hip to all cummers. This is the dude's suggestion. The coolification expert must be a master party boredom eliminator, or something. I know there is a dude and/or dudes who can pull this off for the next bash. This particular bash was like walking into your parents cocktail party when you were a kid. Maybe an entertainment czar is needed. Something is desperately needed I can assure you cause as is it pretty muched sucked I hate to say but hope is not lost for future. The shovels I brought were put back into storage until next time when a hopefully diggable situation materializes

  5. The Dude has read all of the advice given here thus far and would discard a good deal of it. Far and away the sanest, realistic and most solid advice is that of Dereklev. The Dude digs his advice so much that he feels he needs not post his own. I hand out a shovel to the OP to dig this advice also and take heed. On this advice: Learn it, know it, live it. Cheers :D:o:D

  6. I just watched some of the DVD "How the West Was Won". This is Zep in their prime performing such classics as "bring it on home" "what is said and what should never be" "communication breakdown" "in my time of dying" "how many more times" "I can't Quit you baby" "thats the way"and many many more. It's too bad the video quality couldn't be better but it is the early 70s. The sound is great though. This DVD is a contains performances far superior to "the song remains the same". Have some shovels on hand for viewing this classic 2 dvd set, it's awesomely diggable. Dig?

  7. My older sister was a huge Led Zep fan when I was a young pre-teen. So, I cut my rock n roll teeth in a big way :D

    I vote for

When the Levee Breaks (fabulous bluesy sound)

Babe I'm gonna leave you (heartrending)

Gonna give you my love (too sexy for words)

But, to be fair, you have gotta have some serious sex appeal for that last one or it just doesn't cut it. :o

Whole Lotta Love---off the zep II LP contains the interesting line "gonna give you every inch of my love" hmmm. anyway, there is a story about Plant doing certain things in the studio to authenticate the high pitched vocals and screams you hear in the song. Someone may want to look that one up on the net. Another good Zep LP story to research is the one about the recording of the 1976 release Led Zep Presence. This LP was recorded in only a few weeks. here's the story from wilkipedia:

"Presence is a studio album by Led Zeppelin, released by Swan Song Records on March 31, 1976. This album was conceived after Robert Plant sustained serious injuries from a car accident on Rhodes, Greece, August 5, 1975 which postponed a planned 1975/76 world tour by Led Zeppelin. During his convalescent period in Malibu, California, Plant with Jimmy Page, had written enough material for rehersals to begin at Hollywood's SIR Studio. The album was recorded within three weeks at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany, with Plant in a wheelchair. Both Page and Plant had planned the album to be a return to a simple spontaneous affair after the complex arrangements on Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti. It is their only studio album that features neither acoustic tracks nor keyboards.

The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard's Pop Albums chart.

Its catalogue numbers are (US) Swan Song SS 8416

  8. Good job there Tiz. Mr Boj, have shovels can dig, I'd say grab Zep I, II or IV for your starter Zep CD. Chon is right about Physical, that LP is an outright masterpiece; absolutely grab it if you see it around. Chon, also don't forget to post the set list you come up with for your band and tunes you're working on

  9. Thaiquila, I do respect you dude but it is important to realize one important fact, Life is Long and one needs cash to live it. I asked my friend just the other day if he was going to move here with his 30K USD, he said no. I said, what if you die soon?>, he said "what if I dont?"

  10. How did this thread turn into a bash Bambi thread? Dude, if you're not into stealth, then that's just too bad now isn't it? I say if someone wants to take a walk on the wild side, power to them. If you can't defend against it in your own life, that's a bummer. I think that really deep down you fear that wild side because it's what you truly desire

  11. The Dude will add a few more great Zep tracks to the list

    1. I'm Gonna Crawl---Off the last Zep LP "In Through the Out Door" circa 1979. Great Plant vocals and screams

    2. Down by the Seaside---Off Physical, a countryesque Zep tune feat. JPJ

    3. The Battle of Evermore---Zep IV---played live in '77 with tremendous background vocal help from JPJ

    4. Ramble On----Zep II. Can't believe that this one hasn't been mentioned. What a song!!

    5. Misty Mountain Hop---Zep IV

    6. In The Light----Physical, great track

    7. Heartbreaker/Livin' lovin' Maid----Zep II, nuf said

    8. For Your Life---finally a Presence song mentioned by The Dude, great LP great tune. Nobody's fault also killer track as is Achilles

    9. Southbound Suarez/Fool in the Rain----Why not give the last LP its due?

    10. Dancing Days---haven't given Houses it due. great song

  12. I Can't Quit You Babe and Khasmir are great examples of their work.

Communication Breakdown is pretty raw stuff. And I like the way Plant does the vocals in Your Time is Gonna Come.  Hey anyone like Boogie with Stu?  It was kind of funky.

I was just listening to all 3 of those tunes today dude. I love that side of Physical Graffiti with Boogie w/ Stu, Black Country Woman and Sick Again. Your Time is Gonna Come and Communication Breakdown are classics that narrowly missed my top 10 list. Come to think of it, Boogie with Stu was a finalist also. That's why I was listening to them. I dig em all with a back hoe.

I find the 1st album very interesting (your time, comm. breakdown, good times bad times, dazed) in that the writing was done by Paul Jones and Page, save the Willie Dixon tracks. Plant is not credited on the album. From Zep II forward, Plant writes most of the lyrics. So what you find on that 1st LP is a huge John Paul Jones influence, which makes the tunes unique and quite solidly diggable

  13. I was at the 1st of the Knebworth shows in Aug of '79 and warm up bands included Todd Rundgren and Commander Cody. They did not play "Babe I'm gonna Leave You" at this show or at the 1979 shows that I saw. As far as I know, that song hadn't been done live for 10 years. The 2nd and final Knebworth show included "The New Barbarians" as a warm up. That bad included Rolling Stones great Keith Richards. While the Knebworth show was a solid show, it could not compare with the unbelieveable greatness of the June 1977 shows at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Zep would never again match up to the Live greatness exhibited during the '77 tour; something was missing during that summer of '79 Woodstock-like festival. The intimacy of an MSG sized arena alone can make for a far better live concert experience. That summer of 1977 was perhaps one of the greatest concert summers ever as Pink Floyd played MSG on July 4th, follwed by ELP the 7th-10th, Zep was June 7-14 (6 shows), Yes was around in August as well but did not play the garden. As for the Page-Plant tour in the late 90s, forgetabouttit, it sucked. Well I shouldn't say that it sucked but it was pretty lousy and should not be mentioned in the same breath with zep '77

  14. The guy who earns 32k a month, how would you go back home in the case of an emergency?, how are you saving for your retirement? What happens if you or your family get seriously ill?

Gee Whiz, that dude never thought of that. Is that important or something? Healthcare, retirement savings and emergency cash, who needs it? Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.

  15. You must be filthy rich if you don't see how it is possible to live off of 35,000 baht a month in Thailand. Actually, I don't make that much after taxes. More like 32 k on average.

I'm drunk half the week. If I didn't drink, I probably could save a lot. :o

I'm certainly not starving. I don't pay for sex if that's what you are asking? If I was making twice as much now, I probably would be paying for sex though... :D Fluck the wining and dining.

If you can introduce me to one person who works at macdonalds at 6 pounds an hour and can provide a pay stub in excess of 2000 USD or equivlent, please post or let me know. I think your full of <deleted>...I'll do a feature story about him/her in Nation Junior magazine, cause that's news worthy. If not, point me to a garbage man in any country that can prove he/she made 5000 USD or equivlent in one month salary. (no extra income from recycling counts)

    :D

The MINIMUM wage in the UK is 5.05 pounds, ANYONE working say a 50 hour week earns a MINIMUM of $1966 US$. Are you trying to suggest that no-one in the whole of the UK who works for Mcdonalds has ever done 50 hours a week?????

It is ILLEGAL to employ anyone over 22 for under a minimum of 5.05 pounds per hour in the UK, Anyone over 22 working in ANY job could earn 2,000 US$ by simply working 51 hours a week.

32,000 Baht isnt enough for a farang to live out here, what happens if you get ill, need to go home to visit a dieing relative etc...

I earn about 1/3 of what I did when I was 24 (6 years ago), however I still earn enough to be able to enjoy myself etc...

I'm with you dude, a lot of these poverty packers in Thailand have trouble with math and teeter on the edge of financial ruin with their 32K budgets. They speak about them as though they are beyond ample. I'd like to see a daily breakdown of these packers existence. God forbid if they wanted to eat something beyond a 50 cent plate of rice

  16. Has he tested the Chang yet?

Thai Whyskey certainly failed the methanol tests conducted in the UK, scotching Scottish and Newcastle's plan to import the stuff (pun intended).

There is definately something added to Chang that doesn't agree with my system.

Even if I have just 2 bottles i will wake up the next day with a roaring headache. Other brands are no where near as bad.

Sounds like the dreaded Changover there Tiz Me

  17. Chonabotdude, The Dude has a suggestion for this thread; make it a top 10 best of Zep list due to the massive # of great tunes that they have. I find it impossible to single one song only. As a tribute to you starting a solid thread like this, I will listen to The Rover while adding my top 10. I have a lot of shovels to hand out for digging the great Led Zeppelin, a band I have seen live on 3 occasions. The Dude's puter has 114 Zep tunes on it, far and away the most of any band, that's 11 1/2 hours of the great band covering all 8 studio LPs, 2 Live LPs and various bootleg versions. I have 3 different versions of The Rover for example; the studio track and 2 Live boots. I suppose that would fill up the better part of a great MP3. Can Dig

    1. The Lemon Song---it's something about the middle of this 6 minute song that is really cranking. Be sure to play at ultra high volume for max effect. Off Led Zeppelin II

    2. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You---another 6 minute+ track. This cranker is off the 1st Zep LP, Led Zeppelin I. The pounding drums, powerful vocals and guitars force me to place this one on the list.

    3. Rock and Roll---off the classic 4th LP, Led Zeppelin IV. A 4 min. overplayed track which causes the listener to shake and bob his head around from start to finish. What a song

    4. Stairway to Heaven---an 8 minute song of Led Zeppelin IV. OK so it's the most overplayed song in the history of Led Zeppelin, if not the history of Rock music. This fact doesn't take away from the fact that the song epitomizes greatness. It's a powerful track that was the climax of all great live Zep shows. The song starts slow and builds to a wild cranking peak. Crank it loud

    5. Ten Years Gone---6 1/2 minute song of the Double LP Physical Graffiti (1975), perhaps the best Zep LP (or perhaps not). A great song that Zep featured on their 1977 tour with John Paul Jones playing a triple necker guitar.

    6. Hey Hey What Can I do---Here's the song without an album. It was the B side of the single Immigrant Song and is a classic track that has seen a decent amount of airplay. We used to crank this one out. I think we had it on a cassette recorded off the radio. We would play it over and over and really dig it. I'm sure it's on the box set

    7. Good Times Bad Times---The short poppy opening track to Zep's 1st LP. This tune set the tone for the next 10 years with great baseline, vocals, guitar and drums

    8. Tangerine---mentioned by Tiz Me, good choice. off the acoustic led zeppelin III

    9. When the Levee Breaks---A great New Orleans song here off Zep IV

    10. That's the Way---another great acoustic track off Zeppelin III
