Thai lady told me today to be afraid of Monkeypox, three cases in Thailand.

I said, "no"......not true.  She says, "fake news?"   Yes.

Unfortunately, we had to find it on google in Thai....then she was OK.

IMO, we are at Defcon 1  and asleep.    COVID we went to Defcon 3.   You know we are at Defcon 5 when we are playing Tic-tac-toe all day.

That is exactly what I am getting at. Prominent headlines aimed at the gullible.

  2. I can not find a medical forum to post this in.

I see that the Media a trying to stir up another scare, this time over the unusual cases of Monkey Pox.

I note that the smallpox vaccine is effective against it. Does this mean that because, in common with most of my generation, I received a vaccination as an infant (and a booster in my late tees, which failed to "take" anyway) , that I am immune and can continue my hedonistic lifestyle?

  3. I am currently waiting out my "under consideration" period for a new extension based on marriage to a Thai citizen.

I did my last 90 day report on line but the future 90 days were cut to the date at which my "under consideration" period expires, not the full 90 days.

I wonder how soon my extension will be entered in the immigration records. Will I be able to make a new report on line as soon as I return hame on receiving the stamp, or, will I need to go to the 90 day report counter in person and show them the new extension?

In any case will my first report after receiving my extension need to be in person, or will it be accepted on line?

  4. My first AZ injection caused very mild reactions which passed within 24 hours, the second, also AZ, caused reaction a tall. No pain at injection site. Booster, Pfizer, had no reaction but arm sore at injection site for a few hours. This may have been due to the skill of the nurse who injected me.

  5. I have just been told that Promenada Mall has been closed down for non-payment of the electicity bill and all the stock in the shops still operating has been impounded or confiscated by police.

The first I can believe but the second seems a bit over the top. Can any member tell me the correct version?

  6. I used to buy my baked beans (Malaysian Ayam brand ) in Big C Nam Phrae or Makro MaeHia. For two weeks now they have been obtainable and on Wednesday all I could find was a 5kg tin of on obscure Italian brand in Makro. Neither Big C Mae Hia, nor Lotus's on Hang dong road have any at all.

What  is happening? Are we seeing a further rejection of Falang foods?

Joe Bakery, Fresh German bread, pastries(on demand) cheese, meats and other items, some of which he supplies to places like Rimping.

If you drive down the Canal Rd from Mae Hia & Night Safari area, travel over the Nong Kway junction and straight on for about 4 km's until you reach a large temple on the right side. His bakery which opens Tue - Sun is open 13:00 - 18:00 with fresh bakes on Tuesday & Friday.

I agree. I buy all my bread from from Jo and collect it on a Friday. He specializes in german foods and can make special orders given a week's notice. Please note that coming from the north you need to go all the way to the U Turn just beyond the PTT filling station. The road in is immediately beyond the big wat and is easy to miss.

  8. I have buried 3 dead cats this week. All were no more than 2 years old and grown up kittens of a female which imposed herself on us about 3 years ago. they had all moved on, but occasionally came back to scrounge a meal and say hallo. They were all toms and one of them was found dead while the other two were found with extreme breathing difficulties and died within a short time. Wife insists that they died of Covid19.

Is this possible? Can cats catch Covid19?

  9. Go through through wiring carefully starting at the battery. Do not take it to a repair shop. The average Thai mechanic's immediate reaction is to start replacing components starting with the most expensive. By the time he has found the fault he may have replaced half the bike and run up a huge bill of unnecessary work.

  10. Last year my brother bought me 2x250gm packets ie 1/2kg, of Morrisons Premium loose tea and sent it from Glasgow. At my insistence he sent it sea mail And, it still arrived in 4! days.

The total cost was 413 Baht.

The only loose European style tea that I could find in Chiangmai was Twinings Breakfast tea @ 323! Baht per 125gm tin.

Even if it  had come by sea mail it would have been worth it.

It was clearly marked as tea and valued @ £2.50. Customs ignored it.

  11. Ukraine is the source of more than half of the world supply of sunflower oil and I suspect the big wholesalers are hoarding it. This leads to consumers switching to other oils thus causing a knock on effect of shortages.

    Additional Info.

I dug up spare photos from the batch that I used for the issue of the passport nearly 10 years ago. They were taken in the photo booth in the Glasgow Passport Office.

They have also been rejected as "not sufficient quality" They are of 78 KB and the first ones I tried were 79.3KB.

Edit Minimum quality is 50KB and maximum 500.
