  1. not the smartest thing I have done but in about 2016 I went and got myself a CB500F from Surat Thani.

took the overnight train down from Hua Hin and landed there around 7am, gave the money to the chap after inspecting the bike for clear damage

when I then told him I had never driven one of those, he seemed concerned. lol

I had never driven manual big bike before but I had driven a Honda Wave extensively, it helped a little bit but also made me do mistakes

for example, with a Honda Wave you can stop at a light and be in 5th gear and no problem, can down shift after stopped.

well I wasn't aware that a manual bike would stall so.. at every single lights I stalled until I figured it out.

anyways, I had to get back to Phetchaburi before 3pm for an appointment so I drove the 500kms, a lot of it in the rain (on my first time on a manual bike)

coming from a Honda Wave, switching the gears was like 5% of it.. not stalling when leaving a light was 90%.

I was always scared of giving it too much RPM and going on a wheelie

would I suggest doing that on highways? no. but!

I made it alive and apart from looking like an idiot stalling at green (AND a few red lights) then I'm still alive

  2. yep, I wouldn't buy luxury items such as watches and even most clothes on Lazada myself.

only time I did order clothes they were cargo shorts, needed side pocket to put my phone when riding motorbike, bought one

and then when i figured it was correct size went and bought 5 more.

mounting your phone on your bike

lot of people wrecked their phone cameras by doing that because the vibration screws around with very small mechanical parts for camera (mostly), rest of phone works well but zoom, focus and whatnot starts acting up or straight up don't work anymore

it's not 100% and might not have happened to you or anyone you know obviously (or maybe they wouldn't know it was the cause?) but that's what I read about when I was looking for a phone mount for my Scoopy for GPS and then I decided against it..

if it's a cheap or secondary phone that you don't care about camera then sure, but I'd certainly not put a flagship phone on a bike mount

btw, love Strava, ex gf used it all the time and keeps sending me her records even two years later

  4. Lazada is pretty good, Customer Service is OK at best. every minor CS interactions ends with "I will escalate that for you and you will receive an email in 2-3 days"

It shows they have zero empowerment to give credits/refunds or do anything on their end, sad.

I have been using Shopee a bit more lately, even if it is a bit more difficult to setup AND navigate (half english, half thai)

on Lazada they have that Local checkbox on the left side that you can click to NOT see the "Overseas" (AKA China) stuff

on Shopee, you can choose which courrier you want (I prefer Kerry because they know where I am) - there is even a selection box on the left side if you absolutely don't want nothing but Kerry

I live on the 4th floor, other courriers always have to call me to explain where I am and that is out of my Thai language skills - I can somewhat explain it..  but they always have questions I don't understand/can't answer

so i am forced to run downstairs hoping to catch the owner to explain to them (sometimes twice!) and then go downstairs again when they finally show up

Kerry calls me when they are downstairs. always saying something similar to: Hello, This Kerry. 450 baht. OK! OK!

I'm up to 107 orders on Lazada. and seen that the first 50 or so orders were usually very small electronic adapters and knick nacks but I upgraded recently to much bigger items.

Can't tell you if it's because bigger or branded items were not as prominent back 6 years ago but it could be.

I like my women to be ready to bang when I feel like it, weigh less than 50Kg, and be under 35 years old.

    Nothing else really matters.

I am 37 and appreciate similar things but would add that I'd go older if the weight went down, between 45-50kg up to 45 years old if they look good.

Can't say I am a fan of older women who keep their hair short tho. I don't like it.

No job ! therby would be considered "not sufficient reason to return" probably the most common reason for rejection and the main concern of ECO

definitely, doesn't matter if you have 2 million baht in your bank, it's actually a negative point for you as you are even less likely to return if you have a bunch of money in your account than if you don't

Me as well, went back to visit 12/19 to my wife's rural village in Isaan.

No internet, no emails, no cell-phone calls for 2 weeks

Reminded me of the good ole days of growing up in the pre-internet/social media world, where you had to actually go visit friends if you wanted to hear from them.

3 definitely good changes, I think they would have a hard time with the first but the second and third are possible. even if they have to hire more policemen (#2 and #3 creates jobs too)

Bikes don't come as taller or shorter, the size is determined by the frame size.

This can be a number like 56cm, or a letter like S/M/L etc.

Different manufacturer's frame sizes can feel markedly different, just like with t-shirt sizes.

yeah i knew that part, just using wrong word for it I guess

they were trying to sell me a ±56cm telling me it "should be fine" but I wanted 58cm or even 60cm

    trolling 101

how to cheat a popularity contest by spamming threads and begging

how to gloat like its meaningful

it's a little bit like stolen valor, no?

It's amazing how easily these (I'm guessing older expats) are manipulated into some weird kind of online one sided romance where they play the white night to what they think is some young lady sitting behind a keyboard interacting with them.

they call those people simps now

  12. k so I know next to nothing about bikes and was considering getting a bike from a tour shop around in hua hin, they have those Marin Gestalt 2 ex-rentals bikes I believe starting at 13,000+

good idea? bad? I don't mind spending a bit more but definitely not 100,000 haha

again, total amateur and will never do races but for fitness and .. transportation

oh and also, what size of bike for someone 191cm?

guy seemed to want to give me a short bike when i called em last time (i think they didn't have tall ones)

What is the relationship between swimming alone on a deserted beach and Coronavirus?

beats me, I saw news that they closed the beaches in Phetchaburi where I live and since this all started I don't think I ever saw more than 5 people (total, not together) on the 2.5km stretch in the busiest part of the beach

I'd agree with restrictions of groups, say no more than idk 3-5 people but swimming alone? come on.

  14. I just tested and it seems I got upgraded too but to a different package - seems like 1000/500

at first, I used to have like 100/30 (can't remember to be honest). then they upgraded me for free to 400/400 and now 1000/500!

let me tell you, I have had internet nonstop practically from 1995 or so and I have never been upgraded ONCE like this back in Canada.

always had to call, get new contracts and/or pay more money

I am on one of those Huawei routers, HG8145V is the model if anyone is curious and I get the following speeds:

    image.png.073813f50cbbb09dc01f492bfc8d72fc.png

anyways, I was shopping to get my own account because this one was setup under my ex GFs name.

3BB wanted one year payment and I didn't have the cash on me at the time

this was the package I was looking to get for myself:

    http://www.3bb.co.th/3BBxdtac/

was looking at it because it included a 10 GB per month DTAC along with the 1000/300 internet (now a downgrade) for 690 baht

I already pay that just for internet and 350 baht for 6 GB of DTAC, so it was worth it.

  15. situations might be different provinces to provinces but people have been saying inter provincial travel was "difficult"

I went to Bangkok to bring my friend back because there was no bus or minivans and I didn't want to pay for the 1600 taxi.

I went through Phetchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, half of Bangkok and doubled it back and was stopped exactly once for a temperature check and no questions asked.

I have also been in Hua Hin two days ago and saw a roadblock set up but they were all lounging at the side of the road (around 8:30pm) both ways.

the only issue you might encounter is if any of the provinces are on lockdown like Phuket and Pattaya were/are at the moment then they might question more but as long as you have your passport i don't see much happening to be honest.

suddenly I was person non grata with mom and dad and sisters, about the only kind word was from her dad, "she's my daughter what can I do"

Showed me exactly how much they were really, 'my family', as in 'not at all'.

30 years of being nice, helpful, and friendly counted exactly for nothing.

    Never saw them again.

he's not wrong. as soon as the lady wants nothing to do with you then the family will most likely all snob you (not that you would REALLY want to keep close relationship with them)

same thing happened to me, 10 years with my ex girlfriend in Canada, have a son together.. her mom kept saying she would be my mom cause mine died when I was 16 and all this bla bla

one day gf decides she wants to cheat and her whole family covers for her. her cousin offered her place to go to sleep with the dude, her parents knew and acted like they didn't for 3 weeks until I caught her on the 3rd weekend and left.

if anyone is curious, in my case my gf was at the university and met a dude in a bar during her early university graduation party

then every Friday from then on she would leave university and not even come back home, drive 3.5 hours to go spend time with that guy, leaving me and my son alone for the whole weekend (typically the only time she could really spend with us)

    it was great.

  17. pretty sure Advice, Jib and InvadeIT are probably still open.. but maybe not.

if from Lazada you just click on Local on the left side and it only shows stuff in Thailand.. and then there is Shopee (and others)

But not many have a blue book to do it when on finance...

    ah, yes.

I have noticed a price drop on Facebook marketplace already for vehicles..  also saw a bunch of guys trying to sell for amounts and pass on the finance, lol.

but for the finance, I would assume that auctions might be having a field trip with these.

sometimes I wish I lived closer to the city so I could attend auctions as I have seen the deal that can sometimes be had (people buying motorbikes and selling them 10k more a few days later)

but I'm sure they are possibly not running them (or just online).

  19. having been here a few years, my Thai is relatively okay. can't read or write it but I can do practically everything by myself.

in my experience, making friends here is somewhat difficult but in my situation, it's mostly because of the following reasons:

    1. I live in a place where there are quite literally no good jobs and also no good college/universities so anyone over the age of 17 that want to study more or wants a good job will leave the place. You want work and money you move to Bangkok, Hua Hin, somewhere else.

    2. If we are talking about westerners, here most people are old (situation is similar to Hua Hin where average age I was told was 65). I'm a bit past half that and we certainly don't share the same interests (just as I don't with my dad who is the same age)

    3. I don't drink, smoke, don't go to bars or do any of that stuff. I also don't pay for bar girls and avoid that stuff like the plague.

    4. I spend my time at home on the computer, walking around outside (or driving) around to the market and at the beach mostly

I have never been talked to by anyone here who wasn't one of the following four options: drunk, gay men, ladyboys or bar girl.

I dislike most social media in general but do have Line, but on my Line I have 20 friends on normal list and 17 hidden. that includes 6 business accounts (3BB, 7eleven, etc), 4 that are family, one friend from home. so I am left with say 26 people and all of them are Thai women that I have met before and keep in contact with or others I have never met yet (75/25) and more than half of them are hidden. (so we never really talk).

I'm not complaining, I'm quite happy to have no friends instead of bad friends as the two below stories:

    1. first time I got here, I went to sit near the beach on some concrete table and chair quite a bit, one of the motorbike taxi guys approached me to chat (probably to practice his English)

talked a lot, used him all the time to go everywhere until I bought my own motorbike a month later then I didn't NEED to use him, the chatting went down by like 90%

one time, a girl came to spend some time at the beach for a few days. she like those harem pants and I know she was from Phichit originally..

the other motorbike guys gave her a hard time, they kept saying she was from Laos because of the way she dressed.. (??) she didn't want to talk to them because she considered them low class.

it just infuriated them because she was ignoring them and they kept asking her to prove she was Thai and to sing some song (possibly the Thai anthem?) and threatening her that they would call immigration and deport her..  one guy kept saying he was police..

until she blew up and told them to F off (or something similar) and left, fuming. that made them even more mad because they are older and she should respect them..

anyways, after this thing my friend wasn't the same anymore.. he told me not to go there anymore because she had insulted them even if it was his friends that initiated the whole drama BS

    2. the guy who lives next door (45ish year old Thai man) used to talk to me every. single. day.. generally friendly but to be honest all he did talk about was saying stuff like "ha! ha! big hole" while pointing at women walking by (100% serious)

at some point he told me he hadn't seen his dad for years and years and showed me an old business card. It took me 2 minutes to track his dad down and get him a phone number, he got to talk to him over the phone.

so one day, i go to the beach with my dog.. it did its stuff on the beach and i pick it up and put it in the bin.. then we head back home and on the way back my dog stops right in front of that dudes house to pinch a loaf.

I didn't have a bag so I had to go get a bag inside real quick (a 10 seconds thing) but before I got to do that, he starts very loudly shouting insults in Thai, I walked up on the porch to go inside while he kept shouting but saw him reach to a 1500ml (and 1.5kg obviously) bottle of water and he throws it as hard as he physically can towards trying to hit me in the head from 2 meters away, I ducked and he missed. never talked to the guy afterwards (I'm not missing much to be honest)

note: if I was back home and someone tried that, I would have ducked and punched his head in real quick. but here they would probably arrest me for that so nothing happened.

also, the guys from both stories below have nothing better to do than to watch me (apart from the one moto taxi guy, he's still cool. his friends are not), I have stayed here for many years now (same place) and had a few girls over - over the years..

when I first got here I had a girlfriend for 18 months before we broke up.

however those guys kept telling my girlfriend at the time "why do you come here to see him, why not me? he has many girls!" and they would talk to her with that nonsense every time she went outside by herself with my dog and came back crying more than once.

they kept doing that so much that she didn't want to go outside without me anymore or would first go look out the window to make sure they weren't there to run outside to go to 7eleven etc. absolutely ridiculous

and they did that with every single women that spent more than a few days with me. and I kept hearing about it again and again and again.. cause all they have to do is sit there and watch people and gossip (quite literally now).

  20. I might have gotten to 165 a few times back when i had my CB500F (471cc), for some reason this particular bike didn't want to go faster (and I'm a light person)

I found out that the Yamaha MT-03 (321cc) were breaking 180s then I wasn't a happy customer haha

just went on Youtube to compare and I guess the newer CB500Fs are doing closer to 190 now, maybe I had a lemon

but yeah, about 100-120 is usually how fast I was going.

  21. assuming you talking about the TikTok app then I had my first viewing of it ever yesterday when a girl kept watching one after the other of those silly videos, i seen about 3 (out of possibly hundreds she watched) and was bored

I also watched my ex girlfriend a few years back, mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and touching like on a bunch of things and not a single emotion on her face (while I was holding her).

I did ask her what was the point of this waste of time as none of the people that she liked stuff for cared even 1% about that like, it's not like that person will be like "oh wow, she liked my page!!" and all I got was a frown.
