I'd like to do a border run at some point to "reset" my previous entry that Immigration seems to have issues with on online 90 days reports (would want new TM.6 and whatnot) as I haven't left in 5 years.
would I be correct to assume that at this point if you want to go to Laos by land and come back that one of the two borders would ask for vaccination status or recent tests before letting me in (or even out)?
I mention "out" because I remember one time I was not allowed to leave Thailand to go into Myanmar (a nice wasted 4 hours each way drive), they told me to fly out to Malaysia..
I think they were making sure I had the correct visas or paperwork for Myanmar before letting me through but at that time it was only paying a small fee at the border and sitting in a car while someone sorted the in/out stamps Myanmar side and then driving back.

a few years back had a lady that had an allergy to shellfish and asked from the cook here some pad thai (I think) and mentioned no shrimps.
pad thai came with those minuscule shrimps the size of the tip of your finger peppered around on it.
I returned it saying i said no shrimp and the cook said "it's just for taste!"
I got the same thing when I say I don't want krapow on my stuff, hate the taste "it's just for taste!"

we have the same problem in Cha-am, I was told many years ago that none of the beach was able to be "rented" because the king owned all the beaches.. well it seems that this is wrong from what I read here.
here if i ever have a lady coming over with a car then it's always some drama cause they charge for parking near their chairs and if ever told that they are staying a few hours (omg, what about overnight) then they get angry and tell my friend to go park somewhere else.
There are few places on the beach that you can park but it's a few minutes walk and the women usually don't like walking 5 minutes.
the local foreigners some of them have their little chairs like the above one from Lazada and even umbrellas and they get the dirty looks but don't care.
I couldn't tell you how much the chair rental is (or parking) because I don't have a car and live less than 50 meters from the beach so I don't sit on their chairs, i know they act like children if you ever try to sit there even when there is no one else around tho (even sometimes late at night)
favorite day of the week is Wednesday when there are no umbrellas or chairs on the beach because its cleanup day.

I didn't get the robo calls until after I'd "signed in" at the mall for covid-19.
I started getting cold calls after giving my phone number to immigration when doing an extension out of province (didn't have Immigration office in mine before)
I know it came from there cause they knew my full name and acted like i was from the different province.
very sneaky and it sucks but this is likely the answer.

It's funny, I haven't shown my license to the police since I been here some twenty years now. If I didn't have insurance I would say what's the point of having one?
yeah, I been here almost 10 years and was never asked to show my license.. I don't drive regularly anymore but I did at some point.
Even when some lady crashed into me, didn't care about my drivers license (not having a license would normally automatically be your fault cause you're not supposed to be there) but all they wanted to do was take my bike away on a pickup and collect money for me to get it back after claiming it was my fault.
I did have a license, the other person didn't.. but they don't know that since didn't check/care.

Kasikorn should settle almost immediately even if you select long term stay, it's Bangkok Bank which is delayed as they have a manual procedure to settle at 2pm International
that's true but the issue isn't Kasikorn or BKK Bank here but Wise holding payment for X and Y reasons, expecting checks..
basically all Wise is doing is taking your money from abroad and then transferring you the agreed upon amount from a local bank here, it literally takes seconds until they hold it.
in this case they take from HSBC and probably confirm on bigger amounts (slow) and then transfer from SCB to SCB (seconds)
I assume there is some kind of level of "trust" here as the money doesn't disappear from my account until a day or two later on my online banking.. maybe they get it instantly and then do the transfer but I think they just trust it will come later and pay me first.

it's a bit of a mess situation, unfortunately.
I had the same a few years back and it was big, mostly blocking his ears.. I left it alone for a bit to see if it would go away and it didn't.
the problem with leaving it alone is it will make the dog scratch at it or shake his ears which usually furthers the little damage that caused it.
so I ended up doing surgery where they practically made a few say vertical cuts and sewed it all together..
I don't remember it being exceedingly expensive, around 5k (I think) but it was certainly ugly afterwards and his ear was much thicker as a result.

Then we have vehicles speeding up to pass us, then cut across us turning left.
this, so much.
I got passed hundreds of times by simpletons that brake in my face 2 seconds later to turn to the gas stations.
a little story similar to the above, one lady smashed my big bike while turning left once, she had no license, no helmet and didn't use the signal lights, turned left in my front wheel
I was told it was my fault and I had to pay 5000 baht to her cause she got banged up, then I had to pay to fix my own motorbike which I think cost 12,000
it was her fault, but nevermind the fact that she was legally not supposed to be on the road due to no license, no helmet etc..
basically, unless you have proof on your side, you pay.

Thanks, I don't mind Win11, it has some improvements, worth getting.
Its better designed, though there's not much in it really. The big thing is that Taskbar Toolbars have been removed.
If you're looking to modify the taskbar/toolbars/system tray/start menu you can do it with Explorer Patcher and Classic Shell
https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher
The first one is only used in Windows 11 but the second one can be used in Windows 10 too
I like my start menu very minimal Windows 7/XP style, have access to the W11 one if i click on the first option called "Start Menu (Windows)" but I haven't clicked on that option since Windows 10 apart from seeing what it was.
as you can see I have enabled Quicklaunch, by adding a toolbar and pointing it to "C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
system tray is sorted properly as well like this
nothing pinned on taskbar, nothing merged. it works.
an option if you were getting annoyed with the changes.. start menu doesn't have to be this way, there's a few options and can customize 100 different ways
have fun!

I built my own. Those 10inch three stage jobs are no good because they use flimsy 6mm connectors.
if it's not too much to ask I'd love to see it and get some links (if you have them)
I was thinking of doing the same thing and maybe put that spinner thing just in front, especially after I noticed that some of those filter kits seemed to have their own pump/tank and needed to be plugged in (there's no plug anywhere near my sink)
I don't worry about how jank it looks, i just want it to work and not cost me 1500 baht per 2 months for single filters.

alright well, I went to immigration this morning with a friend to translate what I actually wanted but brought in the form as well
long story here TL:DR (too long, didn't read) is they just did it and claimed it would just "work next time"
anyways, the usual.. "we don't know, let's just do it" until I ask my friend to put a little pressure and ask who knowsI was told that they didn't know there (the clerks) and that the system was taken care of in Bangkok and not there, so I was offered to do it on the spot (of course) but I am like 13 days early and doing that makes me have to come there 4 times per year instead of 3 (not a big trip, still annoying)
I stood there for a minute thinking about it.. the clerks are annoyed that i press them a little bit then I finally said said "Ok then I will do it now"
they pick up my form and photocopies of passport pages, give me the copies back, only took the form and passport
then an older lady came out of the office with papers in her hands asking about which country I was from several times.
I wasn't handed the paper but she clearly had the printout of the form I had filled online printed in color from their website with check marks in blue ink on a few things, I wasn't showed that page directly just saw it in her hands while she is questioning my friend. (so yes the clerks lied that it wasn't done locally, there's no way she got my paper from their system, printed it and check marked in the one minute i was standing there.)
after me not knowing exactly what they were talking about, she stormed off with the paper and my friend said she will look what's wrong
she then came back and talked nonstop for about 2 minutes to my friend which is next to impossible to translate back to me everything that was said.
all I wanted to know is:
why doesn't it work? tell me so I can stop coming here and annoy you guys
she babbled something about they made a mistake last time and something something about when i came back tourist visa but then changed to Elite
she kept pointing at my stamp from Bangkok immigration (the one where they changed my visa from TR to PE
she said it would "work next time" and stormed off
I then asked my friend why she kept pointing at this date that the visa was changed in Bangkok because they ask the "Arrival Thailand Date" and not the "last visa change date", so that date she was pointing at is wrong for this field.. she couldn't answer so I asked her to summon that lady again
well, she came back and talked a lot of rubbish and when asked which date should i be putting next time then she now pointed at the last date (entry date) and more blabla and stormed off again.. my friend gets frustrated very easily and had enough by then, that's how far I will ever get.
so apparently it will magically work "next time" which I am sure 95% it won't. my friend wouldn't take the 500 baht bet that it wouldn't (safe)
but now that I know that they review the forms locally there, next time I will bring my laptop after I get rejected and ask that old lady to do it for me so she can then reject her own application herself.
but you guys will have to wait at least 75 days to see how this will end!

Thanks for the info.
Actually, installing apps is quite quick, as I don't use so many and Windows is quite good these days, don't need much.
The hasstle is setting up everything they way I like it.
The question is - Do I need to format the HD to protect all my info, or is a Windows reinstall enough?
I was told that my files are still accessable after a clean reinstall using Windows and a format is necessary. If I have to do a format.
How would I install Win11 after formatting the HD? Would I download Win11 to an external USB drive from the MS website then install from there?
Thank youyeah it's called MediaCreationToolW11 (if you really want Windows 11), it will download and install to a USB for you and then you restart and hit the key to get boot prompt (depends on computer, sometimes F11 or F8) then it will let you boot from it and you can do the deletion of partitions/format right from it.
i'm not particularly scared of ppl accessing my information ever through a format but i suppose its possible to retrieve "some" information with data recovery software
from the ones I tried, I wasn't even able to retrieve working files (corrupted pictures etc) even if i did it without formatting or re-writing on the drive but i was using free tools.
anyways, I'd still go with Windows 10 but it's just personal preference

If all you are filtering is sediment, you don't need the expensive "system" filters. Just sayin.
nah its more than sediment, it's just the sediment is heavy at certain time of the year when ppl drain the water supply and it clogs my little filter up. those prices above not bad, i wouldn't consider say 4000 baht expensive but if its a few thousand dollars? I'd rather get a workout bringing the 6L bottles up the stairs.
I rent here it's not a system for whole house, just for one tap to get drinking water for me and doggies

It appears the question mark is a typo on the site and should be a dash.
I am sure others have had the same problem and were approved.
well, rejected 3 times in a row. will visit them tomorrow and get nowhere again I suppose.
it sucks here, our immigration office is practically locked out, you can only go inside for extensions.. which seems to be only for the picture part.
90 days reports they do it outside with a few clerks checking information and then take your passport away and back out, impossible to talk to the immigration officers and the clerks are.. not very useful when pressed for questions.

hahaha
yeah it's good, it just checks for sediments.. <deleted> is for "Total Dissolved Solids" so its not the be all for knowing water quality but its better than nothing, i'm sure there are fancier kits that check for something else but i don't own one
edit: it's blocking T.D.S.-

Multi stage RO filter systems are very cheap and work very well - you have several gallons in storage tank - it may not look the best but it does the job. First filter removes dirt and can be changed as needed (cheap) - can be had for about 3k-4k on Lazada or Shopee (although you can spend many times that for same item from some sellers so be careful).
would you know which filters are the change for this system? it's always hard to tell (or i'm an idiot)
I see stuff like this which might be it but it looks different cause I assume the filters go in the plastic bottom 3 things.. seems a bit on the cheap side to me for 6 filters. idk
maybe just used to the 1 filter for 1700 baht.. definitely an option, even tho it looks like the 3-4 companies this seller sells stuff for looks almost if not exactly the same but with a different sticker on the units

Never send my PC to be repaired, but if I had to for any reason
Many years ago only ever put the OS on 'C' drive used to be a HDD a few years ago changed to SSD drive... 120 GB is plenty and cost less then 600 baht. for SSD.
All the rest is on different HDD's with shortcuts on Desktop + for me would be easy as my case has 5 HDD + 2 SSD Trays so could take them all out as nothing to unplug just pull the trays out if PC had to go anyplace...
I feel sure you could copy/ghost your OS onto a new HDD/SSD, then take you present Hard drive out before handing it over..
I agree with this, if you don't have an SSD then get one 120 GB is sufficient but I normally take 250/256 GB (got a whole lot of apps) and then install only windows and them apps on it, save everything else somewhere else.
ninite.com can install most of the apps that people use for you very quickly after a fresh install or a Reset this PC.. on a relatively fast computer you can install Windows 10 (or 11) from a USB drive to an SSD within ±20 minutes, installing all those apps with Ninite adds maybe 5 more minutes and the rest is spent installing everything else and customizing your desktop/taskbar to your liking
you could absolutely do a Reset this PC by yourself or even fresh reinstall if you have a USB stick over 16GB, it's literally just plugging it in, pressing a button when restarting and following onscreen instructions.. if you do not have a solid state hard drive (SSD) then I would absolutely recommend that as it is one of the best upgrades to start with.

Forget about the countertop filters for purifying your drinking water. Been there...done that....total waste of time and money. I buy the 20 liter bottles off the water truck and pay the driver 20 Baht extra to carry them into my home. He can do the same for you. I bought a meter off Lazada for around 100 Baht that will measure your water quality. My bottled water is 5 microns. Next, go to the 20 Baht store and buy a dozen 750-1000mm plastic bottles that have a snap on lid, then fill them up daily from the 20 liter bottle. It only takes 3 minutes. Buy a 100 baht plastic stool to set the 20 liter bottle on until empty, then load another one. That makes is super easy to pour from them. Problem solved! You'll go crazy and spend a fortune on those water filters if you go the other route. My wife and I spend 240 Baht a month, including tip, for the drinking water, and we drink a lot of water daily. Problem solved.
yep, i used to do that when I was living up near CM on the ground floor, I had one of those pumps from Lazada mentioned later on this post but mine was a cheap piece of trash (didn't pay much, you get what you pay for :)
I used to use the big bottles, they would deliver 2 at a time (maybe it was 3) then I'd put them in those 6L jugs from 7eleven that I would buy a new one once in a while cause plastics and then in smaller bottles as needed or for fridge and cooking.
now here problem is several floors of stairs and no one downstairs to pay for the bottles or receive them.. (I guess I could pre-pay or they could call..) we have a metal contraption to tilt the big bottles to dump them in the the 6L to bring up but its made very low to the floor so you have to put it up on a stair.. not that bad..
I suppose I was just looking to have an easy solution for one tap, which what I have now is, replacing the filter takes literally 10 seconds but if it's going to be 1700 baht filters that clog up within a month to being dripping for 12 hours to fill an ice bucket then it just sucks.

If there are a lot of particles in your water it will clog any filter you use.
Perhaps you could put a spindown filter under the sink to remove the larger sediment before it gets to that unit. They need to be back flushed when they get clogged.
Something like this:
there's only a lot of particle when the supply runs low, as during songkran lots of tourists around there was no water for a day or two and then dirty water for a day or two.
it's mostly clear now but this would likely help, it seems that there is a manual drain to it which hopefully wouldn't be clogged every 1 hour
I added that to my cart as any system I would choose would probably benefit from this.. makes me wonder if chaining more than one after the other would help more

If I format the HD, then reinstall Win11, can I just enter the Win11 license number or is it kept in the PC?
the license is linked to your MS account so if its the same computer when you log into the MS account it should pick it up or ask you if its the same computer

hi guys, looking for options on water purification, mostly only for cooking/drinking water.
I have one of those counter top 3M thing here that is hooked up to the tap:
the filters are 1750 baht each and they are supposed to be good for 2800 liters of water (costs 1.6 baht per liter) which in theory would give you roughly 7.5 liters of water per day..
we might drink 6-10 bottles of water per day from it which would amount to 4.5L and then the dogs get their water from there too but not 3 liters per day
problem I am getting is that when I change the filter, it flows like the picture
but only for a few days later and then it becomes absolutely slow. at this time I might be to 6 months and now it drips one drop per 2 seconds or so. it takes the whole day to fill the ice bucket I have put it in, then we put the water in the bottles and in the fridge.
I think it's something to do with the very poor state of the water here sometimes.. sometimes the water is dirt dirty, like brown when the tanks are empty.. it seems to ruin the filtering very quickly and then we're back to drop drop.
what I would like would be a better system. I've seen them online in Lazada whatever with the 3 filters system (or more) like this (just an example, don't care about this particular one):
but all I want is quality filter that actually works (won't make us sick from drinking tap purified water), that has easy to purchase filters (don't mind purchasing 10 of them) and not too expensive hopefully and that is not going to cost me 1700 baht every 2-6 months from being gummed up (hard to avoid, i know).
I can get bottles of water delivered with the truck here and it's at least 15 liters if not 20L for 15 baht which is cheaper than purifying it.. but it's certainly a chore to bring 20kg bottles upstairs (few floors up) and dump them in smaller bottles.
If anyone has some experience with any good brands or any better ideas then i'm all ears.

Thai immigration online 90 day reporting system
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
you're not wrong, at some point immigration started bothering me for a "copy of the house book" after never having asked me for one for like 8 years, they had tried previously and I was unable to get one based on i'm renting from a old lady who rents from a guy in BKK that uses a third party company to manage his rents.. the company didn't have it and the BKK guy couldn't be bothered to provide paperwork for 4th party.
solution to it was to go and bother a friend in the same province but very far, ask her for book.. she signed for it and we used that. i never lived there but the only three options were.. lie, move or go back home cause I couldn't renew visa.
