haha, this picture was used to make this meme here

I use it once in a while when women try to blame some stupid choices on "Thai Culture"

    they hate it.

. . . It sounds to me like your electrician is no electrician, whereas you are doing the electrician stuff yourself and in a more competent manner. Maybe just do it all yourself? This is my recommendation. I am very happy to offer advice if you need it. If there's one thing I hate, it's paying people to do stuff that I end up doing myself anyway. My advice is just cut out the paid morons from the outset.

yep, had the hardest time to get 2-3 "electricians" to come and ground a single outlet on an old building

I was getting shocked left and right on every single thing, computer monitor, microphone, fridge etc. they couldn't care less.

acted like it was a big job and weren't interested in doing it for like 500 baht (the 5-6 minutes it would have taken them)

in the end, i went and bought some proper US type socket with a enclosure box, drilled a little hole at the top of it and routed the green cable up the ceiling to join another grounded wire from a different floor bathroom, cost me like 300 baht and even as a very cautious beginner it took me MAYBE 15 minutes, they would have been done in like 5

I've had so many issues with grounding that I bought a ground tester on Lazada and if I ever visit new places I check their ground and.. 90% of the time it's not and when you tell them about it they just shrug.

so update, TV stopped working @  17:40, would not reconnect

Speed test = Kansas Research - Wichita KS,,,,,,,,,,,,  Ping 354 ms, 3.4 Mbps down + 2.6 up  !!!!

then went to that site  ipleak.net then it shows My IP Address as USA  + DNS 5 Thailand + 2 USA

18:30 TV went again .. checked again

this time Maxihost = Los Angeles  Ping 585  !!  +  IP Address as USA  + DNS  2 USA

Why is it something with my PC ?  I was not doing anything just watching TV sat back in my chair.

the only way I can get it to get back to normal is switch off PC and Router = then back on AIS Thailand + TV works again or at moment...

if it shows you in USA when you do the speedtests on the PC then its likely your Browsec telling that website that (or another VPN)

they try to get the closest location to you, VPN shows you are around LA so you get LA for testing

get rid of it or test with a different browser that does not have Browsec installed

mine always goes to local 3BB 50km away and you of course get maximum speeds but as mentioned before you will mostly never get close to those speeds anywhere outside of Thailand.. which is where 99% of anything you'd want to access on the internet is situated.

so your AIS connection doesn't matter much once it hits out of Thailand, your UK TV channels come from UK (I assume) and not from Samut Prakan

so you get the slow internet from them

if you were to test connection to the UK you would see it's not going to be 850 mbps (probably similar to your LA test)

Portoti PR 25MB are very effective both inside and out.  But make sure real (about 900 baht or more).  Not the knock offs selling for 100 baht.

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/portoti-pr-25mb-mosquito-pest-killer-i174536187-s358395528.html?exlaz=d_1:mm_150050845_51350204_2010350204::13:12361258259!116250861285!!!dsa-994763964701!c!!!!562801083306!206363463602&gclid=CjwKCAiA78aNBhAlEiwA7B76pz6ZSyilTWURd8X0LUR4SHbo1-W-NpZX7PLZUPygTzYWl234qFp75hoCbbYQAvD_BwE

Do normal blue light zappers kill mostly other insects and are not that effective but the Portoti is well made with computer grade fan and specific lights and in my experience over last two years very, very effective.  At that price and still having over one thousand 5 star reviews on Lazada says a lot.

Be very suspect of any inexpensive unit with cheap fan as had a BlackHole clone become an open fire as plastic burned.  This is one item that it pays to buy quality.

I dangled mine from the middle of a door frame with a nail and it 100% works, they actually use the correct wavelength for UV as opposed to just jamming purple lights inthere and I have hundreds of mosquitoes in mine very often.. a rare feat since I live right by the beach and we don't see many of them

only thing is that you don't want to be putting it in viewing distance of you as they will go to you instead..

in the about two years I have had mine i found out little butterfly in mine only once

  5. now, if you don't have a credit card (or a Visa Debit card) then you could just use those Netflix cards, I suppose

making the account doesn't require a card as far as I know but.. It's been a long time that I haven't messed around with Netflix, they gave me a free month access once or twice and wasn't able to find anything that I would watch on their rubbish selection apart from a few standup specials..

the free month ended and I watched absolutely nothing both times

Like me try to share an account with a friend,  maybe this friend have a credit card, problem solved.

Or you could try an app called Plex, which is free, but of course not as good as Netflix.

Hope you will solve this small problem.

By the way we pay 1 year ahead which is  much cheaper.

eh, one is a streaming provider for movies and shows (Netflix)

and the other is a personal server  setupfor streaming your own videos to yourself (Plex)

you can compare Kodi (XBMC) and Plex but not Plex and Netflix,

if your own Plex server sucks more than Netflix, it's your fault but mine certainly doesn't

Forty odd transactions of 34.15 filling four pages of the book.

They didn’t need much convincing it wasn’t me.

when was this? I had like 5 transactions try and 3 went through on the 16th between 8-9pm on my Kasikorn account, all about the same amounts until my account was empty (don't keep money on account, probably had 125 baht on there) and then I got a text to call them

what did the bank say about where it came from? I didn't call them yet but I assume I would need to change my card?
I don't have my Thai friend here to call them and I can't be bothered to go there for like 100 baht.

Hehe, after many years of using windows, quick assist or help functions, troubleshooter in MS never solved anything on a windows pc.

Best just to search and get answers from the online community.

no idea what you are talking about but quickassist is the remote access software that is included in Windows to let someone else control/view your PC

nothing to do with help/troubleshooter at all

We have been using Portoti brand light/fan/trap type for last six months and after first week or so almost no mosquitos.  It is not cheap at 900 baht each but low priced versions we used were a fire danger as cheap plastic becomes open flame from overheating fans.  This is very well made and easy to clean and almost all victims are mosquitos.  Have on indoor and another outdoor and they work great - fresh kill outside down to a handful a night from hundreds when started, (almost none inside) so keeping population down also.

I have bought two of those as well, absolutely does works well but has to be out of range of you.. if you put it in your room they would go to you and not the light most of the time.

definitely several hundreds of them by now.. the ants figured it out and they come and take them away too. haha

    I live in Thailand.

The 4 questions many expats seem hesitant to answer:

    What is your name?

    Where are you from?

    How old are you?

    Where do you live?

those are typically the same questions women from online dating ask

I have been asked hundreds of time by now.. its usually the ones that didn't read the profile with half the answers

first questions they already had the answer for:

    what is your name?

    where you come from?

how long you live in Thailand?

    then

    wow, how can you do?

    can you speak Thai?
what do you do in Thailand? I tell them I just live here

what do you do? (pushing for how you provide for yourself)

    why you choose Thailand?

    can you eat spicy?

    you like somtam?

I usually ask them if they work for Immigration halfway through.. because they ask more questions than Immigration does

they usually get annoyed and stop talking

could you let me know how much you paid to ship it and how heavy it was, etc.

I got my brother to buy me a hennessy hammock almost 2 years ago and  then Covid hit and recently when I tried to get him to ship it via courrier (DHL) they quoted me this for a 3kg shoe box

My pet hate is that the vendor gets your phone number when you make the order. They phone me and say "oh we dont have that colour/item/size but we can send you something similar"

happened to me too once or twice (the call) but once it was because they didn't have a bundled item (2 items one box) and asked me if it was fine to send 2 boxes

the other time was to cancel.

I haven't been attempted an upsell before tho, certainly sucks

I swear sometimes it feels like some people use popular items to just take your data (phone number, name and address)

there are some items i had to order like 5 times in a row cause they were all getting "cancelled, no stock"

then you ask them "why is there 10 items listed on your ad then?" and all you get is "???"

  14. haven't read all the posts but as someone earlier said some of those websites do not allow people from certain countries/providers

    for example, I can't access https://www.ebgames.ca/  with 3BB Fiber

    Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebgames.ca/" on this server.

    Reference #18.c71da46e.1626084216.5f48f199

but I can access it with a VPN such as the one included in Opera browser

There is a Militarily and Police road back not 500 m from my house with a long line of traffic waiting to be checked. I would say that on a road like BKK to HH you will run a very great risk of being stopped.

similarly last year and after 2-3 days it was empty.. they have no problems putting rules but enforcing them 100% of the way is their problem every single time.

I had to go to BKK last year when they locked down hard and wasn't stopped anywhere from Cha-am to Bang Bon (barely in Bangkok, just after Samut Sakhon) and on the way back only stopped for a drug test and temp check a bit before Mueang Phetchaburi (popular place for diverting)..

all the other "roadblocks" they had was a few of them playing on their phones and others unmanned

do update us if its there the whole 14 days then, i'm curious

So from reading that, it seems that travelling out of Bangkok to anywhere during curfew hours (9pm-3am) is impossible, except in an emergency.  What's not clear is whether travel out of Bangkok to places like Hua Hin, Pattaya and Rayong is possible outside curfew hours.  Previous reports have implied that travel has to be "necessary", but I've yet to see that defined.  It will be interesting to get some first-hand reports.  Are checks even being made during the day?

I'm wondering this as well, not for my personal use but out of curiosity (I live in Phetchaburi)

the last 2-3 times they had "lockdowns" like this everyone kept telling me it was impossible to go in Bangkok and out but

the first time they claimed heavy lockdown like this. I had to go get my two puppies and they had locked down JUST before I could get there.. I traveled there with my motorbike from Phetchaburi all the way to Bang Bon (just after Samut Sakhon) and did not encounter a single roadblock or nothing.

on the way back, we were stopped a few km before Mueang Phetchaburi but it was a "drug pee test stop" (my third time in the years i been here) and they only checked my temperature and let us go without much questions.

If anyone does travel out, i'd love to know how it went either way

Nana Dental Clinic total western standard speaks english

quite a bit late for recommendations but yes, I went to this clinic and they were very professional

might I add that the range they gave for cleanup 800-1xxx (I can't remember) they actually charged me the lesser amount which is a thing that has not happened to me in several years.

I live in Cha-am and the one that I wanted was booked for 2-3 weeks, they always charge me the maximum price even tho they claim it starts at 600

I was glad that Nana didn't just flat out charge me the maximum amount like the regular one (and other ones) always do

so, I will go back there next time even if its a much longer drive.

So Diatomaceous earth is the only natural non poison one ?

I wouldn't call them poison (not a chemist) but, they are chemicals insecticide solutions
DE is just very fine sharp powder that screws little insects up.

you aren't poisoning them you, it works mechanically by sticking to them, cutting and dessication
