Why do you need a vasectomy.  If you are sleeping with prostitutes you should be wearing a condom.  If you are worried about getting your GF pregnant just go with her to get 3 monthly birth control injection.

Never rely on a Thai girl to take the pill.  Never.

not sure about his reasons to get it but I got a vasectomy because I'm too old to have more kids.

It's not about not wearing condoms (for me anyways..)

a vasectomy is a mechanical fix to a problem instead of chemicals fixes such as what you are suggesting

I wear condoms every time even when I had the same girlfriend for years, I prefer to not get them to injected with chemicals/hormones or taking the pill

there are no possible side effects to my vasectomy for either of the partners

vs the chemical way, where there is a long list of them.

I had mine at the same place (Sukhumvit soi 12) back in November 2021.  The compulsory fixed-price "donation" is now 5,000 baht.  Still significantly cheaper than any hospital, even if you drive up from Hua Hin.  The whole procedure takes less than 30 minutes.

hmm, that place used to be free and accept donations but they must have changed that.

I think I gave them 500 baht when I had mine done in 2017, i could have just walked away without giving anything with probably disappointed/weird looks that's it.

it was a good alternative for me who as a Canadian applied to have it done for free.. was on a waiting list for at least 7 years and like a month before I left the country they contacted me to ask me if I was still interested to get on waitlist #2.

or course.. 5000 baht is cheap and the service is fast but, not so free anymore.

If the meter is still functional it's easy enough to put it back in circuit.

Do you have a multimeter or neon-screwdriver?

    • Check which end of "your" breaker is the outgoing side (turns off with the breaker off).
    • With it off remove the wires from that end and insert them into the free terminals on the meter. Is the cover available? It will tell you which side is L and which is N.
    • Connect the two wires that go nowhere to the vacated terminals on the breaker (You may need to use longer wires).
    • Turn on.

Run your shower to check the meter actually works.

    Read the meter.

    QED

Or just ask the landlady to get it put back in circuit and agree a price per unit for energy used.

    Hi Crossy,

the plastic cover for the breaker/switch is on the top of the meter, i had a look at it and its just a plastic box (doesn't mention nothing)

I don't own a multimeter but always wanted one, if you could point me to a proper one on lazada or shopee I'd love to order one now

if I understand correctly I'd need to figure out which one is the out of the switch, connect this to the meter (does it matter which one? there are 4 screws on either sides.)

and then connect the dangling wires where the other ones were connected?

the cables connected  to the bottom of the switch seem a bit short to reach the meter but I expect that those are the cables that were there before..

how would I extend that cable? buy similar gauge of cable and tying it together or is that a big no no?

otherwise, it seems simple enough, I should be able to do that

It looks to me that rather than being actively trying to fleece you she just has no real concept of how little power you are actually using and has just seen her bill going up so blames it on you.

So incompetent not evil. Of course that doesn’t really make any difference. Get the meter connected, use the PEA app and pay what it says rounded up to the nearest 10 or 100 Baht

I think it's a bit of both, she's trying to up the rent but this is a small 15x15ft room there's nothing to it, whatever they had in here (blinds, etc) was/is falling apart and I had to replace stuff myself so the value shouldn't be going up..

If my own bill came to 2500 baht (±555 kW @ 4.5 baht per kW) I wouldn't fight it and just pay it, it is what it is..

however, going from an all inclusive price and then once every 2 year or so being asked for 500 baht for electric rubs me the wrong way..

I'm limited by space here so I can't be buying any large appliances but she saw me walk in with a microwave 3 years ago and immediately said she should charge me more electric.. I mean i might have used that microwave for a total of 10 minutes in the last 3 years..

  5. just to add on the comments of 9XL above, I have ordered some shorts from China which were for waist of 32in (medium at best in America?) and they were like labeled as 4XL (if not more)

the sizing is definitely a mess. sometimes you are lucky and they have sizing in metric sizes so you can kind of figure it out tho

  6. and I saw the replies saying to move, the place here is well situated etc. however, I can move but it's a bit more difficult cause i have dogs and I'm used to living here (been here for 8 years or so)

I have thought about it tho, so the ultimatum will likely be to pay her the 500 baht this month as she claims i used it last month (how can i prove it's not) but then offer to get this meter sorted and that I will pay the difference ONLY vs meter upstairs or I'm moving out.

then let's see how much money she saves when I left and no one else is renting rooms and her business is always closed.

tbh, I'm tempted to get a bunch of those smart plugs and to show her how much energy her glass fridges and dumb stuff really sucks out.

  7. here's a copy of one of the latest bills, I was able to match the price on the calculator using the "Type" 1125 she had higher on the bill. so it's 3390.98 on calculator and 3391 on bill

    close enough, I would think.

I should get that meter reconnected, take a picture every month and then use this calculator to calculate it and give her the money but..

a more fair way to do this would be to take the total, divide it by kW and then multiply it by mine since the fees change before 150kW and so on

I did some useless calculations, mostly dividing total by kW (I know it's not how it works) and it falls on 4.5 baht per kW, it's a much simpler way to calculate tho.

i can promise you that she will not like that idea because it will definitely not hit 2500 baht and she'd end up missing half of that from the total she is used to get. she might not like it, but it's only fair.

the below bill/calculation is for a 4 stories shophouse building, (4 bedrooms) she has a little restaurant/bar downstairs but its mostly 95% closed due to covid, a lot of those useless glass fridges keeping beer cold for months when there are no customers (2 big ones) then a freezer and another fridge full of rubbish (don't know what else to call it, its a mess),

I can definitely afford the 500 baht extra, but it's not exactly about the money. I've had 5 price hikes total of 500 baht per month each "for electric" by now, starting to be a bit frustrating.. I kind of told her no but then she went to complain to her sister who complained to her husband and he messaged me on FB about it.

  8. i might sound like a dunce but can someone attach one of their bills and let me know how to read this? (can hide identifying information of course)

I don't get my own or I would have asked someone here. .. however, the owner here flashes them in my face to demand more money all the time

I just need to know where to look for the usage vs price (if it's even displayed) and how to know which kind of "Schedule" billing she has to figure out her nonsense.

edit: it looks similar to the one  posted above (i think)

  9. alright, long story short the owner here keeps creeping up the price of rent based on "help me with electric" to  the point where she is now charging me 2500 baht or so ABOVE the price of the rent that was including electricity 8 years ago

very little usage to be honest, i got 2 computers  (use only one at a time), a laptop which the screen is off 99% of the time and my monitors turn off after 5 minutes of no use.

other than that, a standing fan I run practically 24/7 and a fridge who has a 5 star listing.. I don't use aircon and I don't use the hot water in the bathroom.

tired of getting the screw slowly turned on me for something I know I am not using that much, when i lived in another house about 4 years ago I never seen an electric bill over 500 baht.

so i'm quite a bit skeptical to be charged 2500 extra over the original price that included electric in the deal.

anyways, there is a meter upstairs that was added at some point and I assume it was connected to the grid somehow to split the usage but it now looks like this:

    116713.thumb.jpg.248c4623402a7cad1a6ead682eff2e70.jpg

now, this breaker is still in service but the brown and blue cable I assume is what were connected right below it to allow the meter to work, this is at the 4th floor of the place so.. PEA people were probably not coming upstairs when it was in service.

breaker controls my 4 sockets upstairs and the shower heater. if i turn it off there is no electric whatsoever but the meter does not turn as it's not connected.

what do i need to make this MY meter so I can pay my own damn electricity and finally show her she has been charging me for nothing?

how much would you think I am looking at spending to get this floor on its own account?

I plan on getting her to reduce the price to the base price it was 8 years ago and pay my own damn bill, even if the bill is "somehow" 2500 baht I will pay it and she can <deleted>

I suppose there needs to be a meter/reader installed downstairs so they can read it?

or is that somehow a meter that only proves to the owner how much i used (kinda like in the condos)?

  10. the only thing I bothered buying from Amazon is stuff that is rather hard to source locally (or without a scalpy price)

I checked my last 5-6 years and all I bought was 2x Oculus Quest 2 (VR) recently cause there was a big discount and it ended up cheaper than on Lazada (plus actual warranty)

otherwise it was 2 game controllers that I could not buy here and some nice waterproof pillow cases.

Normally (not always) if you bought something valued under 1000 baht (maybe including shipping) then there are no duties/taxes fees but.. they did something and it'S not always the case anymore.

I plan on getting some inline skates shipped down here but they are heavy and big.. issue is that I can't find some real good ones anywhere around.

  11. now Shopee on the other hand, I ordered 2 fitness bands.. paid 1290 baht each, they were chinese early version (doesn't make a difference in usage)

1 year warranty on their listing.. 6 months later I lost my first one at sea (dog kicked it out off my arm, lol)

I open the second one, of course it's dead.. battery is useless.. I contact seller they confirm 1 year warranty, make me send it to them (dead watch, whats the point) and then they tell me "sorry sir, your band only 1 month warranty.. warranty for 1 year is global version"

what they did is they changed the listing from the Chinese version of it (to keep the good reviews) and now it's showing global version and selling that for exact same price but now the Chinese version is not sold on that listing anymore since they edited it.. and they telling me "better luck next time!" and Shopee customer support told me the same "after 30 days we cannot do anything!"

quite useless. changing the product on specific listing should be against rules.. I see that sometimes for other things like you would be looking to buy a phone but you go in reviews and the pictures are of battery packs or something like that.

    rubbish.

  12. I have a single issue with Lazada, it's regarding returns or refunds when ordering multiple items

here is what happened to me, I ordered an inflatable exercise ball (the big ones) and workout gloves.

they gave me a free gift cause i spent more than 1000 baht (a "leather" bag of some sort)

gloves are too small even tho i ordered one size bigger than the sizing showing on the order page.

I ask to return the gloves but there is no way to select one item, they want me to send all items back.

I have already inflated big ball, happy with it.. don't want to return it just to order it again (stupid) so not going to do that

I print everything even if it shows the ball in the return form/pdf, I return the gloves and the bag that they gave me as a promo.. they take forever verifying stuff and gave me some grief but eventually got my money back..

system is stupid,  if I order 15 things and I want to return a toothbrush I have to return everything? nah, man.

I still use Lazada, have not had anything else negative happen

How did you get that information?

I had a problem with a transfer from my US bank to Kasikorn via WISE, and they casketed the transaction, When I called WISE they said they canceled the transaction because my bank would not accept it, and they did not know why.

Perhaps the limit you mention was the reason.  If that is correct then I would need to change banks

Wise has been popping up something about that for a month or so, I believe the amount was nothing over 50,000 baht.. I don't recall if Kasikorn was part of the 2-3 banks mentioned but I normally never make transfers over 40k so I didn't bother reading the whole thing.

  14. yeah so charge 300 baht to everyone and then stop charging 300-400 baht to visit national parks then?

I was coaxed once to go to Pala-U waterfalls by a Thai lady I (don't care about waterfalls) and didn't know they were going to charge anything, Thai person with me very cheap can't remember how much but like 15-30.. 300 for me, the drive there was several hours but i considered telling her to go on and just sit in the parking lot not because I can't afford it out of principle..

I went in since lady wouldn't have went by herself and certainly made a fuss about it later if I turned around. then I wish I didn't.

wouldn't have missed much to be honest

The model of round 'em up, nobody claims, kill them, seems to solve the 'too many' strays in the USA.

I think they have a similar thing in Canada, don't think I ever encountered a free roaming dog there in the years i lived there, you could take your dog with a leash anywhere and not get constantly assaulted like here.

I could even run my dog in the forest with or without a leash.. and they have dog parks for socializing them so they don't get aggressive

here the experience is, you get a puppy and every single other dog he sees is threatening or barking at it so they return the favor

forget about walking with no leash with your dog in most areas, I can barely do it on the beach.. mine has been rushed by 6+ dogs before and wounded cause he ran away from them instead of staying next to me.

anyways, soi dog foundation has something going on, i suppose that is their only option but it isn't doing much, 600k dogs in 20 years when there's 6+ millions of them roaming around today.. in 20 years all those dogs will have died and there will still be 6+ millions

    so the difference is, nothing.

Similar with download speed, who needs high internet speed on a mobile phone? For what? I never had to wait for a long download because I can't remember I ever downloaded a huge file on my phone.

come on, he's obviously running a Plex server on his phone so he needs the 5G to stream 1:1 Blu Ray 4K HDR movies /s

I didn't read the whole thread just the last 4-5 pages but it seems people who think they NEED an expensive phone are just entrenched in their belief and nothing will change (what a surprise!?)

I used to have a friend who would boast about his new Iphone he got every 6 months for thousands of dollars but I look unimpressed when I asked him to show me what his phone could do that my 7000 baht phone couldn't then he was at a loss apart from saying "better camera"

then he went on a tirade saying that when he wanted to load an app it had to load INSTANTLY and not take 1-2 seconds so that was his reasoning why he would "need" to buy a 1000$+ phone more than once a year.

for me, just like I think I read on a previous post, I have a 3 proper Desktop PCs (one backup for work and one for gaming) and here is what I use my phone for:

95% receiving phone calls from Lazada delivery, never call out

wake up/work Alarms (sync to Xiaomi band)

    Online Banking (and Cardless withdrawing)

Messenger and LINE chatting, video calls.

    Google Maps when driving etc

Listening to music if in minivan/bus/motorbike (with headphone jack thank you)

Smart house controls, turning off power bars/sockets/lights remotely etc

2 factor authentication App (have on PC)

    Photos (very rarely)

I looked at my apps and don't see what else I would use

and yes I can do all this very easily (and 10x more if I wanted/needed) from my 6000 baht Redmi Note 8 (i think it is)

I don't think  it can access any records other than those stored on the site.

There is no check of your records when doing a report on the new site. There is only one page when doing one. The submitted  reports are then approved or disapproved at the the office you are reporting to.

that's what I like about it personally, the previous ones just instantly told me to go to immigration for my reports without a reason why and immigration couldn't care less to try to figure out why they just wanted to process it

will see if it works in like 2 months for me as I only found this thread after it was too late for my last 90 days report

    fingers crossed.

  19. I think this new system just accepts the information and then if something is wrong they will just reject your application

as opposed to the previous system which seemed to check SOMETHING when submitting as it would reject my application every damn time even with the proper information.

I have not used it yet since I only discovered the new system like 2 days ago and my 90 days was due on the 29th but I am pretty positive that it should work whereas the other previous ones instantly told me to go to the immigration office. I'll follow this and let you guys know if mine goes through in .. about 90 days.

Last weeks announcements, that the slick would be gone in 7-10 days, failed to mention that it would be all over the beaches instead.

yeah, and that stuff is particularly nasty.. a few years back had bit of it show up on the beach here and i was unaware of it and stepped on some of it that was stuck in the sand.. it was quite literally stuck to me too after that and quite difficult to take off my foot.

  21. I hope this works for my next 90 days report, I have an Elite visa and my last entry was in September 2017 by land, the old system (and the app) always told me to just go to immigration to do it.. when I asked them at immigration why it wasn't working they never had any interest (of course no way for them to know why) and wanted to just process it quickly and me to leave.

This 90 days report was due for the 29th but I was trying to push 90 days reports to not happen 4 times a year and be 3 times instead.. (cause i keep going there in advance) for the yearly extension, it will not work this year cause i started too late but hey.. if I can do it online then I don't care. will see in 90 days

anyone know if there is a limitation on which provinces would accept this yet?

I used to live in Mae Hong Son and the drive to the immigration center was like 3 hours of zig zags one way.. I'm thinking of going back there maybe in a few months but idk if I want to do that 7-8 hours trip every 3 months.. not that it's that bad but at that time I only had a motorbike.
