It is worth a day trip to Taichileck (Mae Sai border). There is a booze shop there, excellent selection, much cheaper than here, for 25baht per bottle they will get it across the border for you,  .

At a small restaurant at Vinmanmek Palace years ago, I tried to order laab moo, which was on the menu. All I got was a blank look. I tried every tone and inflexion......nothing.

Can anyone tell me any Thai word with which "laab" in any tone can be confused, off a menu?

Interestingly, on the rare occasions when my Thai friends want, or need, to RTFM of anything at all complex, they do so in English if available. The Thai language version leaves them utterly perplexed!

That said, English transliterations of other language manuals can be tiresome, amusing, or incomprehensible. Many years ago I had a piece of equipment from a top-of-the-line Japanese manufacturer. "When the globe is exhausted through elongated usage........." change the light bulb.

It would be nice if Thai printers would ask a friendly neighbourhood Brit to proof read their output before committing to press!

There is and has been for at least 10 years, a large wind generator on the breakwater at Ban Amphur beach. I have never seen it move. A complete waste of someones' money.
