  1. “Importantly, the tourists must come from the countries that have low risk of COVID-19,” Ms Traisuree said.

Whats the point on this if tourists have to test negative prior departure, after landing, quarantine 14 days + 7 and test 2 more time negative before being allowed to travel to other regions? Ah... I forgot the bracelet

  2. Well but all this will not make tourists choose Thailand as their next holiday.

In fact me for example I love Thailand over every other country in the world and own a condo and a brand new motorbike there but will spend my next autumn vacation of 3 months in Mexico for the simple fact that I am not allowed in to Thailand. So it can be as safe as it wants but that will not make their situation better if they keep their door shut.

OP-NO, they are not even letting mail in from other countries atm. Thailand is currently in the spotlight as the most covid free country in the world (according to the local news) and are not going to jeopardize that for your few thousand baht.

But they seem to have no problem to let elite visa holders in where a 20 years one is cheaper than the average condo

    1) grab isn't cheaper

They can offer their price and I am sure they will find taxis working for them as they are actually more expensive than the normal price - copied from my first comment

    2) of course they need to pay taxes, like everyone else who earns money. ???? What do you think how much taxes am average taxi driver pays here ????

    Hahaha is this sarcastic?

Surely the average taxi pays more than a grabcar who works completely in black and could be charged for that if he pays 1 satang as tax

    2) licenses cost nothing, this isn't new york

Prove please. Well than what's the problem for the grab car drivers to get one.

    3) normal taxis drive too on grab

Yes it's called grab taxi but the problem is grabcar.

    5) what are you even talking about, people LOVE grab because they don't get ripped off, that's it

If you ask the fare in advance and agree or use meter than where is the rip off?

    6) couldn't be bothered to hire a taxi at night, they don't want to drive one anyway in bangkok

    ? Plenty around

  5. Of course Grab drivers can offer cheaper prices. They operate without a licence which has a cost to get and as they are illegal anyway they also don't have to pay taxes.

I am curious what would happen in case you have an accident in one of those cars...

I am not against Grab, it is basically a good idea and it's just natural evolution of the job but they have to comply with rules and regulations and therefore employ cars and taxis that have a licence.

They can offer their price and I am sure they will find taxis working for them as they are actually more expensive than the normal price (if the red car doesn't rip you off).

Taxis in Bangkok and Chiang Mai are actually ridiculously cheap (Pattaya and Phuket not but that's another issue) and it's funny how people don't complain to pay a 1000 baht bill in a bar but than complain to pay the taxi driver who has to wait around until 2 am just to bring drunken people home for mere 60 baht.

  6. Happened to me two years ago when they started with this bulls hit... Went to Jomtien immigration for extension and they told me to pay a fine (I was in a Hotel and never heard of this before).

So what I did was went to ban Chang, checked in a Hotel and told them to do the TM30, paid and went with their receipt straight to the Rayong immigration (in Ban Chang). Got the extension without any problem and spent the night at the bar street there. Next day I went back to Patts.

  7. I am very surprised (positively) from the authorities in this case. I followed it since it came out last Sunday and even if I find the pictures disgusting and stupid to do such thing in sacred places I have to say that the 5.000 baht fines is much more proportional to the gravity of what they did to many other wishes of fine that other people (and mainly wannabe Thai expats) suggested.
