  1. I arrive in Vientiane early on the 12th of November and was intending to apply for the old Double Entry tourist visa which I have used 4 times in the last 3 years. Will it still be availble then, 1 day before the changes come into place?

They are usually telling to bugger off after three, but these times being pre-METV,some posters have reported general leniency regarding DETR.

    Try it!

Although technically the visa will only be issued the next working day which makes it the 13th,so could be refused

Ok thanks, sounds like a massive risk I will try change my flights to arrive early on the 11th I think. Would like to give my self the best chance possible.

If you're having to change flights and make new arrangements, I would go as soon as possible and not wait until the last days. I expect that there will be a huge number of people making a run to Vientiane this week in an attempt to get a final double entry visa.

  2. Good for you but I don't see how your post fits with the topic.

The topic doesn't assert that all or most retail experiences in Thailand are horrible.

BUT it is about the horrible ones. Only the horrible ones.

Some (including me) may find interest and entertainment value in hearing some specific reports of horrible retail experiences in Thailand. Some posters may find a tad of catharsis in posting about them ... even without the satisfaction of NAMING the culprits.

Would people be more or less interested in a thread dedicated to positive retail experiences or neutral ones?

Perhaps, I really do doubt it, but that isn't the topic of this thread.

Does the evening news lead with: Most people arrived home from work safely!

If you confined the posts to only horrible or extremely negative views then it would obviously be against the Thai Visa prohibition "Not to post extremely negative views of Thailand." I think you should be grateful for the posters who have tried to bring some balance to a thread that was angry, insensitive and vindictive towards Thailand to say the least.

Then report the thread. Acting as an amateur cop isn't flattering.

Sent from my Lenovo S820_ROW using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

JT, you make an OP and then let it go, it's not "yours" like a tinpot dictator telling people exactly how to answer.

Going off-topic is what makes most threads interesting. . .

I agree with you Wym... The OP has made several posts in this thread admonishing people about their posts, and then has the gall to bitch at someone about being an amateur cop. Who the hell made him the ThaiVisa police?

OP - This is a public forum and everyone can say as they please. Until Thaivisa makes you a moderator, let them do the policing.

  3. Just Google it for your answer sorry, thousands, no wait millions have asked this before, ants in sugar . ants in food, ants in kitchen, ants in cupboard., Just get some ant killer !!!!!!

    No more ants

Funny, I just went down to take a photograph of the same thing. Been using it for a few years and works quite well. smile.png

    +1. This one works well.

  4. They have a fuse which needs to be lit to make them explode.

When we were teenagers we would fill the ping pong balls with "strike anywhere" match heads. They will ignite on hard impact or being crushed.

the ping pong bombs might belong to teenagers engaged in a brawl but threw them away in the bin to avoid police check.

Can the plod work out if there was in fact a police checkpoint in the area since this bin was last emptied? If there was, it would give a lot of plausibility to this being true.

I am sorry for the garbage collectors who were injured in the course of doing their job, but overall this is almost a non-event. The headline borders on newsmongering as it comes on the heels of a larger and more deadly blast in Samui.

As mentioned above, it is sure to bring out the rainbow of keyboard warriors who would have otherwise ignored the topic if it was titled "City workers injured while emptying trash bins".

  5. Are they the ones they have on show in air conditioned buildings?

Yup. They feel great when the air they are blowing has already been cooled and dehumidified by the building's central HVAC system. Not worth a damn in a hot and humid room.

They aren't cheap either. 6-10 K for a reasonable sized one. My suggestion to the OP that is considering to shell out for one of these is to spend the money on the increased energy charge incurred by running the existing AC for the next couple of hot months.

  6. >>This will help reduce the financial burden on the state for the upkeep of the tigers, each of which costs about Bt7,000 a month to feed and take care of.<<Quote

146x7000x12, That is more than 12 million a year!!

Takes a lot of donations from the sheeps to keep the show on the road.

Those guys are not monks, but gangsters wearing saffron...............bah.gif

They charge 1000 THB to have the photo-op up close and personal with the tiger, and the tourists line up for it every day. 7000 per month is the pocket change left in the bottom of the jar.

  7. Whenever a taxi driver doesn't want to bring a customer to a certain destination he can use the excuse that the destination is too far and that he has to return the car on time to the driver of the next shift. So what can any government department do in this case? NOTHING!.... because it could be TRUE!

This would be ridiculously simple to solve; Same as they do in Singapore.

The taxi driver puts a sign in his window that says "Changing Shift: Bedok" or wherever his depot is located.

This way he can find a fare that is going his direction, and other potential passengers realize why he cannot take them where they want to go.

  8. There is truth in these words.

Numbers from the West fell due to lack of travel insurance cover, Asian travellers do not feel the need for such covers, probably because they are self-insured from higher savings.

The truth is not that there was an increase. The first six months were down due to Suthep following his marching orders to disrupt the streets with highly visible confrontations and protests that led to travel warnings from sane governments.

This is correct, if you are speaking strictly about the first and last half of last year. During the first half, everyone was staying away.

During the second half, the Thailand veteran travelers who come here often and know that life and business goes on as normal "same same but different" started returning.

Being connected to the resort business talking to resort owners, there seems to be a consensus that this high season has definitely been an off from previous years.

From Christmas through January and February were busy with the same veterans who come for a peak season holiday every year, but there were very few "newbies".

One owner remarked how his resort usually stayed busy through April was like somebody turned out the lights after the first week in March.

  9. What province in thailand is this test centre in? Are you in your own private room or is the testing done in public view?

Done in public view. As mentioned above, it is a vanity countertop and basin with a recirculating pump. You can test any of the plumbing products sold at HomePro- showerheads, faucets, et al.

  10. Please, some info on the test centre as I'm thinking about replacing the stinger. I'd like to test the range at homepro but I am leaning towards the one that looks like the star ship enterprise.

I went to my Local HomePro at Lad Prao / Pradit Manutham.

If they have it, I imagine most if not all other stores would too.
